  1. Wow. Let's see...after Sandberg retired, the ONLY reason to watch the Cubs most of the time was because of Sammy Sosa. Sammy Sosa (along with Mark McGwire) helped save this game after 1994. He is the reason we went to the games. We WANTED to see Sammy. Before 2003, I considered Sammy to be a very classy player. He loved this city, he loved the fans, he loved the game. Home runs #61 and #62 in 1998. The hop. In 2001 when he hit the home run then carried the flag around the bases, that was awesome. The BOMB he hit in Game 2. There is no doubt in my mind that this man deserves to have his number hang above Wrigley Field forever. Of course, I'm one of the few that always have and always will love Sammy. He and Ryno are the reasons I watched baseball. It was a sad day when we let him go, because even though it needed to be done, it was so sad seeing one of the greatest Chicago figures of all-time being traded. Sammy will forever be a Cub in my mind.
  2. No. I hate Dusty as much as the next guy but I'll give whoever leads us to a World Series at least a little respect. Plus, down the road we'll remember the World Series, not the guy who ran the team.
  3. Cubs are 3 starters short. Wood sucks. Maddux is done, unfortunately. And I don't feel confident with Williams/Rusch/Hill.
  4. Mariotti's high. They'd throw that 100 million at Tex long before Derrek Lee. I'd like to see the Cubs throw 100 million at Tex before deciding to keep Lee around.
  5. Piniella Alou Baker Worst three managers in that order. Piniella being the worst.
  6. The whole Royal roster plus their whole farm system for Pie. (Royals pay all salaries) I still don't think I'd do it.
  7. hahaha what? we clearly upgraded in left, and gave up virtually nothing at all. how can you say you are happier staying put? Because after today, we'll be lucky not to be 5 games back of the WC, and it's not like this acqusition makes us an incredibly better team. Lawton is a nice player, but he won't really put us over the top. the additions of Nomar-Lawton-Williamson-Wood could very well put us over the top in the WC standings.
  8. Baseball Tonight says Matt Lawton straight up for Jody Gerut.
  9. I think its a great trade at this point. We couldn't land a big bat, but we got a player that we needed and could be vital to the Wild Card run. Of course, it all depends on who we gave up.
  10. I dunno, he's got potential. His curveball is devastating, but everything else is kinda average. However, with Wood being as unreliable as he is and Maddux getting old, I don't see how trading Rich Hill is even an option.
  11. I feel exactly the same way you do. If we give up Hill without getting Manny or Dunn, I'm gonna be quite upset.
  12. Then why does everyone go nuts when Macias or Enrique Wilson get/got ABs?
  13. Or maybe he just wants to give Gerut some ABs. Why? What can Gerut do that Murton cant?
  14. Gerut being in the lineup is just more proof that Dusty is afraid to play Murton everyday.
  15. I'd love to swap Baker for Tracy. Tracy was high on my list for Baker replacement already.
  16. If Hendry makes a move, he'll add Lawton, while teams land Dunn, Manny, and Floyd around us. Most likely, Hendry does nothing.
  17. Wow I didn't expect the Giants to get involved with anything, but in that division anything can happen. And it just scrolled across the ESPN Bottom Line.
  18. The Mets have an outfield of Woodward-Beltran-Cameron tonight. Looks like Floyd could be on the move too.
  19. This is what my friend relayed to me. Tim Kurkjian reported it. -Rangers will not trade Soriano unless they are overwhelmed with an offer. -0% chance Burnett will be traded. -100% chance Matt Lawton will be dealt, and the Cubs and Cardinals were mentioned. -Most likely OF to be traded by the Reds is Adam Dunn, but more than likely none of them will be moved.
  20. Nomar and Lugo are the only ones I can think of, aside from standard bullpen rumors. Cabrera's name was thrown around wasn't it? e: f,b
  21. I was just watching Fox and during one of their game breaks they mentioned Winn to either the Dodgers or Cardinals.
