  1. Am I confused on the Cubs LH pitching situation before the trade?.... Did the Cubs have 7 LH pitchers on the roster already with a couple more ready to come up? Or, did the Cubs have 2 LH pitchers in the system ready to pitch in the majors with 1 of them out until the end of August; and, the other 1 not being used to his strengths because of that lack of LH pitching depth? Nah, this is just Hendry being obsessed with LH pitching---- ya..
  2. Good trade! I see the value as pretty even, but the Cubs were thin on LH pitching & had/have some RH pitching depth... They leveraged some on that RH pitching depth into much needed LH pitching.... Well done.
  3. If y'all don't get it, so be it...I'll give you this- I guarantee the clubhouse 100% loved the move.
  4. The manager sure appreciates him, or just likes him.... :-))
  5. He throws a slider here the inning is over--- slider--- boom, inning over. it's scary!
  6. On two occasions this year, I saw him reference learning from Maddux in his last stint with the Cubs. Just the whole professional approach of pitching- watching tape, setting hitters up, extreme focus, mental toughness etc etc... Dempster said this has made a huge difference for him. Something I learned last night is how good he's been in the clubhouse- Sutcliffe said he was the leader of the Cubs clubhouse... Watching an under aching talent like Dempster mature & put it all together is one of the funner things for me in sports. BTW, the whole learning from Maddux thing, was suggested to Dempster by---- Stone..... Dempster said Stoney told him to attach himself to Maddux & learn whatever he can from him--- Stone told Dempster if he took the same approach as Maddux, Dempster would be one of the top five pitchers in the game..... Stoney & his crazy predictions- awesome!
  7. I completely disagree Vitters & Samardzija are showing about as good as could be expected-- Soto has graduated into an All Star major league player- Murrton & Donaldson were leveraged into an Ace/Playoff starting pitcher- Veal is better than last year- Thomas & Ceda are showing well and as early as it is to even remotely judge the 08 draft, it's doing "much". 4th rounder Cerda has been excellent and 9th rounder Jackson has been filthy disgusting- pretty crazy stuff for a 9th round college pitcher.... Cashner is an excellent prospect and Shafer & Carpenter have + arms. Most of Colvin's nubers are down, but considering he's changing is approach at the plate, that's not unexpected... His big red flag was his poor plate discipline & improving that is his goal for the year. I'm much more encouraged about the Cubs farm system than I was at the start of the year.
  8. Wow, all this angst over Marquis/Marshall.... I guess we have to complain about something. I gleaned this from another board- I think it's a good perspective. "Texas is 3 games above 0.500. They have 9 guys with 4 or more starts. Their top 3 starters Padilla 107 IP 10W 5L 4.70 ERA Millwood 94 IP 6W 4L 4.93 ERA Feldman 84 IP 3W 3L 4.39 ERA Compare to JM Marquis 92 IP 6W 5L 4.78 ERA"
  9. So, let me see if I have this right. Good stats for Vitters are meaningless.... Bad stats for Vitters are doubled... No?
  10. Wondering if Vitters' recent success has answered any concerns for some of y'all?.... I know it's a small sample size, but it's all been a small sample size with him so far. I'm certainly encouraged about him. He's anything but a "bust" at this time.
  11. I remember Schilling saying Wood has "video game stuff".... Those ESPN highlights looked like nintendo 64.... Old school Woody!
  12. oh ya, that's a great stat..... There's gotta be at least 30 relievers that can chuck it better than Wood---- if I remember right, Ohman's "rising" fastball gets to 99-100 mph. Just funnin'..... Just saw the highlights from last night-- WOW!--- Woody had his A+ game goin'--- that's fun!
  13. What?...... How did you come up with any of that?
  14. AH! Its Rothschild's fault. I just knew it couldn't be the beloved wunderkind Hill. How about maybe the previous year and a half were more of an aberration and the league figured him out? One good pitch, one average pitch and he wasn't able to be aggressive anymore. Yea, I'm not sure it's LR fault. Hill clearly states his arm angle changed from last year. Oh no-- not at all...... We all know it's Piniella's fault---- :-({|=
  15. I was at the game... When Johnson bunted, I said tie game- Then Longoria got to the ball at light speed- so be it, tip your hat to Longoria.... One thing is that is was no surprise Longoria made that play- he's outstanding at 3B-- don't know if Johnson considered that or not. Anyway, the power whining over Piniella is way crazy here.... He's vilified for using Marmol too much, but when he uses the back end of the pen, when the Cubs are losing, he's doing the wrong thing- The Cubs were stupid to send down Pie & sign Edmonds( btw, how's that working out? )- now Piniella is stupid for not using Edmonds.... The crying over the 25th spot, Fontenot/EP, is as silly as anything I've seen- gees, it's the last spot on the freagin' roster & Fontenot is more advance & has played better.... Too funny! At least you guys were right about Piniella being stupid for using Dempster as a starter & not using Hill...... oops, nevermind. OK, back to the tantrums--- :banghead:
  16. I wonder what Wuertz did in Spring training of 06, and what rh relievers the Cubs had to open 06? I remember him pitching for the cubs in 06, so i don't think he was buried at AAA. Anyway, that was before Piniella, so i don't see a pattern.... As pointed out, I think Piniella is frustrated with Wuertzes' lack of control.
  17. Why's that?... You, or anyone else, can bellyache & whine about Piniella all you like. I had no sense of what Zambrano's career batting average is.... I just know he's now hitting much better than the posted career stats.
  18. As pointed out with Edmonds, career batting average is not indicative of what kind of hitter Zambrano is today. And where Edmonds is in a down trend at the end of his career, Zambrano is in an up trend in the prime of his career.... Going by the stats you posted, Zambrano raised his average .100 in 07 from 06, and as of now he's raised his average another .100 in 08 from 07.... Again, in an uptrend, he's hitting right around .290 the last two seasons.
  19. and the Cubs front office having it out for the guy. Wuertz, Hill, Pie, Murton....quite a list they have going What has the front office said/done to make you think they have it out for Michael Wuertz? burying him in AAA a couple years back for one When did that happen?
  20. No, it's not completely counter to the previous 400+ PA's.... I don't know all of Zambrano's stats, but I know he hit .300 one year-- he hit around .250 last year & he's hitting around .350 this year. If you want a bigger sample size, what's Zambrano's avage the last two seasons?!? Probably around .280-.290.... That's gotta be relevant. Lou is good at puting players in position to succeed. If he thought Zambrano hitting in that spot was the thing to do, there's reason for that thought.
  21. Career? How is that relevant?....Magic & Jabar had great careers for the Lakers, how much help would they have been tonight? For relevant, how's Zambrano's ops+ this year? With a pitcher who doesn't get very many at bats over the course of the season, it's very relevant. Zambrano has less than 50 plate appearances this year, that's not sample enough to tell anything, especially when he's got 400+ PA's of being a terible hitter prior to 2008. I don't see What Zambrano did as a hitter from 2001-2007 mattered in that at-bat yesterday-- I do see what Zambrano is doing as a hitter in 2008 mattered.... Zambrano's limited at-bats this year doesn't "tell anything"- really? If career numbers mattered more than numbers from this year, why did a lot of Cub fans think Edmonds would stink for the Cubs?
  22. Career? How is that relevant?....Magic & Jabar had great careers for the Lakers, how much help would they have been tonight? For relevant, how's Zambrano's ops+ this year?
  23. Gotta remeber what Harry was like before his stroke.... He faded quite a bit after that.
