  1. Now it's just getting to be ridiculous.
  2. That's generous characterization. I'd go with ignorant, knuckledragging buffoon at the very least.
  3. No. what was he talking about? I wonder if he's finally gotten some new info on him, because his Twitter comments on Vitters still seem pretty meh, for the most part. Nothing super specific. Just thought the Cubs were doing the right thing and was adamant that he had made "real progress" at AAA this year and went on about he's still only 22. He also basically said that if he had to guess who would actually contribute next year it would be Vitters and not BJax At this point I'd tend to agree with him, if Vitters isn't traded. And KG has a real Jeckyll/Hyde thing going on with his non-Twitter and Twitter personas.
  4. Brenly is pretty low on the list of media racists; he's the least of the problems. His was the question I was trying to answer. However, I suppose the flipside is that he's the one, more than the others, who yields the most influence as the color guy. Kaplan and Rozner are the worst; they might as well be Father Coughlin clones, and Rozner just hangs on to vendettas. Rogers is just an idiot, Sullivan is a lazy, cynical writer. Miles is by far the most objective of the bunch. I don't think Brenly is that bad. Kaplan and Rozner are right in your face with it, and there's no misinterpretation required.
  5. Another bit on Vogelbach, this one from Sickels: http://www.minorleagueball.com/2012/8/11/3236341/minor-league-prospect-dan-vogelbach-1b-chicago-cubs-scouting-report
  6. Wouldn't you walk him at that point? You'd think so. Those pitchers have to feed their families. Not as fun to watch, though.
  7. Only a BB the third time around.
  8. It's just a matter of time, imo. And as interleague play expands, so will pressure to standardize the two leagues. I used to be strongly opposed to the idea, but I have come around to the other side. The MLBPA would never allow the DH to be scrapped, and I think evening things out should happen. Plus I've become less and less enamored with the "strategy" of managing around the pitcher's spot.
  9. What else can you say about Vogelbach? Just ridiculous.
  10. Wonder what the NWL record is for consecutive games with a HR. This is downright sick. Ask Goldstein.
  11. I'm pretty confident Starlin will end up better for having endured this slump. I'm hoping he'll become more selective. As good as hit hit tool is, he puts his bat on pitches he has no business making contact with, which results in weak contact too often. I don't ever see him being uber-patient, but if he can learn to be more aggressive on pitches he can really hit and less on bad balls, he's going to be a monster. There is quite a bit of power there, clearly. I don't think 25+ homers annually is at all out of the question as he enters his prime, especially if he shrinks his zone. And the defense is really exciting, and it's looking like a lot of that worry over him needing to be moved of SS at some point was unfounded.
  12. Wait, a third one? Ack, missed the 2nd one mentioned before all the KG stuff. I was gonna say, I'd be concerned KG was gonna quit Twitter at that rate. I'll say this for KG, his taste in video games is impeccable.
  13. Can't help but chuckle at that. I've been giving him [expletive] about it on twitter for a couple days, and I'm sure I'm not the only one. I'm surprised he got so butthurt, though.
  14. I'd rather watch Shawn Estes than Coleman. I'd rather watch 2012 Shawn Estes than Coleman.
  15. I think Vitters is a goner. The fact they're not going to play him everyday seems to indicate they're trying to ease him into a big league role, or more likely, that they want to keep his numbers as healthy as possible for trade reasons.
  16. Not necessarily. His stuff is good enough that if he can learn to control it effectively, he could be a decent bor starter even on a solid staff. Not saying it will happen or is even probable, but he's still young and the potential is there.
  17. IIRC, he tweaked his elbow last year, but it ended up being a "minor" thing. After he came out of his last start, that was the first thing that popped into my mind. That elbow has been my quiet fear and I was hoping he would have been dealt before it went, but it seems that won't happen. If it is the ligament and he needs TJS, I have to imagine Theo/Jed would try and re-sign him to a cheap, 1-2 year "prove I'm healthy/build value" deal for 2014/15.
  18. Sure looked like a horrible attempt. The jumbotron promptly flashed "#beastmode". Embarrassing. Joe jumped too late and hit the wall on his way up, and I'm not sure it goes out unless he hits it with his glove. It was a catch a lot of outfielders would have made.
  19. If Mather hadn't gimped out that catch attempt, it'd probably still be 1-0.
  20. I think they make it far more difficult to acquire elite amateur talent than it used to be. I think the changes made competing and making any substantive improvements to the system this year highly improbable, given the roster Theo & Jed inherited. We'll never know, but I'd bet that of the old rules had remained, the offseason would have gone differently, at least to a degree.
  21. I just had a wtf moment when I saw the thread title, and the content delivered.
  22. The new CBA really complicated things as well, making contending this year while making any meaningful improvements to the farm system nearly impossible. They flushed an outside shot at contention in favor of a real opportunity to improve the system, which isn't fun, but makes the most sense. The only real move they didn't make that irks me is not making a more serious play for Darvish, because he's so young.
