That is effectively a veto, there's no reason to pretend otherwise. It was a "I don't want to go there" and not a "I absolutely will not go there". He's protracting things to see if he can get his way. The only thing abundantly clear is that he was/is holding out for Los Angeles. Whether he maintains that stance in in the face of having to stay (perhaps beyond this year) remains to be seen. -
Exactly: Dempster next year would be an innings-eater, marking the time until Epstein and Co. feel like trying to win. You can always go get another one or three of those, mineaswell get a small return for him now. There comes a point where the return becomes so meager that keeping Dempster is worth more to the team. The question is whether the Dodgers offer is at or below that point.

There's no real upside to taking garbage back from the Dodgers. Unless you get a return of a prospect or prospects with actual upside, you hold onto him. Someone is going to have to fill the rotation next year, ant it's not as if there is anyone in the system that would fit the bill. Not anyone that has a future with the big league club.

Which is nothing short of an indictment of the state of education in this country. And the "I don't feel the need to practice proper grammar, syntax, spelling, etc. on a message board" shtick is weak. People who practice proper English as a habit don't lapse completely into unformatted gibberish just simply becuase the context is relaxed. They maintain at least a semblance of legible communication. I'd sooner use having Parkinson's disease as an excuse for what you post. Anyone with a master's degree in anything should know the importance of effective communication. People aren't as likely to read, much less take seriously what you have to say when it appears that you simply bashed your head into your keyboard repeatedly and then hit "submit". No one here composes their posts like they are writing a dissertation and we all make mistakes. But your posts are actually painful to read.

Jacque Jones, Milton, Hawkins all claimed they received death threats/hate mail while on the Cubs. Can't think of any white dudes who have. I'm pretty sure he was taking a jab at you for your misuse of an apostrophe. Coloreds is plural, colored's is possessive.

Yeah, shocking stuff. Feared that from the moment this started to drag out. The upside is that Demp has been really good and the Cubs are probably willing to eat the remainder of his salary.

This may be nitpicking, but I think I'd want more from Atlanta for Garza - I'd want it to center around Teheran. And why would the Dodgers still give us Eovaldi knowing Dempster is limiting our options to them or nobody? Colletti's not very good at what he does, so I guess it's possible he won't react to this, but I'd expect the Dodgers' offer to plummet if Demp nixes this trade. They don't know it's them or nobody, and neither do we. It seems implicit, but he didn't veto it immediately, so the door is still open. It would be simple to leverage this as a "Ryan would prefer L.A., and that is why he is waiting; to give you an opportunity to match or approximate their offer. If you don't, he is receptive to Atlanta."

The Cubs can absolutely use this to their advantage, for a while. They could say "Ryan would like to come to LA, but is willing to go to ATL if you can't match their offer." But if he actually declines ATL, Jed and Theo are screwed.

I think the idea that he was going to veto the trade, but he doesn't want to look like a bad guy and now has to at least keep up the pretense of considering it has some merit.

Yeah, I still believe this will happen. And TT's hypothetical would be amazing (Garza goes to Dodgers in the meantime) as long as it wasn't underhanded. If I had to make a prediction, I'd say the deal still goes through. But his "I know where I want to go" shtick coupled with his hesitation is bleeding the FO of leverage. If he does kill the ATL deal, we're not getting [expletive] in return. And there's always the chance he blows in his next start or the Braves get a better offer.

Oh FFS. I'd tell him to cry about it, but apparently he already is. That's even dumber than the blindsided business. We're going to end up effectively giving him away to the Dodgers. He should keep his mouth shut.

If Demp did indicate to the FO that he would accept a trade to Atlanta but then backtracked and this falls through, he'll be squarely on their [expletive] list. And mine. My guess is that over the past week or so he became convinced he'd be going to L.A. to be with his BFF Lilly and now he having a hard time accepting another possibility.

Delgado would be a very nice return. I'm a tad skeptical (about Delgado coming back), though.
