  1. I don't like any deal that inludes Walker and Burnitz. One or the other, but not both. Subtracting two of our better hitters to add one doesn't really help. That and Murton would be a massive defensive downgrade in right. Can you imagine a Manny/Hairston/Murton OF defensively? Yikes.
  2. Dude you are a Cub fan. Go to work, aint nothing going to happen. In fact its better to work so you dont get pissed off waiting for crap to happen. Yeah, nothing happened last year either.
  3. Sometimes I think that many of the people at ESPN (Olney and Gammons in particular) are so preoccupied with the teams from the northeast and what they are doing that they overlook the rest of the world.
  4. Strike 3 was too close to take, though. I don't know. It was clearly a ball and Hollandsworth saw it all the way. If it buckled him, then you have to hack at it. But it wasn't that close. I still think you have to at least foul that off. It was barely off the plate.
  5. Expecting Macias to walk in back to back games might be too much. And he K's. Dusty's boys come up big in the 9th.
  6. OK, so there's one guy who's having a really bad year and one guy who's having a slightly below average year. What about all the scrubs I listed above who are doing way better than their career averages? Edmonds is doing worse than his career average, but he's not that far off what he would've been expected to do when he signed his current contract - about a .900 OPS, 30 HR and injury prone, sounds the Jim Edmonds we saw in Anaheim. As for excelling over a short period of time, Abraham Nunez has 250 plate appearances and is on track for a career high. I'd say guys who pitch regularly like Carpenter, Reyes, King and Tavarez are hardly guys excelling over a short period of time, too. I originally responded to the post because of the xzero's comments on how Rolen's year was such a fluke and Lee's wasn't that far off or at least could be expected. Your best example is Nunez and he's a guy I'm so excited about. He has excelled in so many ways to help this season, I can go on and on. Tavarez and King have both been worse than last year. JRod is far too small of a sample size. The Cubs have several guys they can point to as exceeding career norms as well. Rusch comes to mind, Lee, and Ramirez (although I know, he's coming into his prime and Edmonds should've have fallen off the map even after last year). We haven't even discussed Walker. I know, he hasn't played a full season in forever. But he's batting .270 when he has played. He hasn't done that since 1990. I didn't say that Lee's year could be expected and Rolen's was a fluke. I said thar Rolens was no less of a fluke than Lee's, and vice versa. I also qualified the statements by saying fisrt halves, since this year isn't nearly over yet. I never denied Lee was playing over his head. There is a big difference between what I said, and what you said I did. Now when compared with Nunez, John Rodriguez, and Carpenter, Lee doesn't seem as flukish.
  7. And it does drive us crazy. Venting on a message board day in and day out just isn't necessary, and it just aggravates others. I'm sure there are plenty of things you can break, or go in the basement and scream. Go to a batting cage or a driving range, or buy a punching bag. Just because you spew venom on an internet message board doesn't mean you care more than anyone else.
  8. Train of thought? What train of thought? Wait- it's "I better make as many moves as I can so it seems like I have some sort of plan"
  9. Lucky? How has Lee been lucky? It's not like he has been getting bloop hits all year. Say what you will about the rest of the team, but Lee is lucky? That's just ludicrous.
  10. And Rusch coms in for Novoa just to walk Clark to face a RH hitter? It has worked out so far, but it makes zero sense.
  11. Ugh. I think our pitchers should try getting ahead in the count.
  12. Derrek really needs a day off. I think he is mentally and physically tired.
  13. The wind has really helped stifle our homer-happy offense during this homestand.
  14. Never make the first out at third. Bad, bad decision.
  15. Go back to the losing streak. Those were short.
