  1. Awesome. Our hitters won't take balls, and our pitchers can't throw anything but balls. Seriously, the leadoff walks are the freaking worst.
  2. Sure do. One positive is that if this continues, we may be able to start the Dusty Baker death watch.
  3. I'm not sure one game = a streak Everything is relative.
  4. Maybe he catches them on the fly, but he's not good and picking it up off the grass. Right after Jones was signed, I asked a Twins fan friend of mine about him, and he said something like "he's got a strong arm and will throw some runners out, but he will throw just as many balls right into the ground." Looks like he wasn't lying. As for his offensive surge, I don't think it's him figuring it out, but rather facing some RHP. That stretch when the Cubs faced a slew of lefties really made him look worse than he actually is (overall). He really needs to be platooned. He is a dangerous hitter vs. RHP and impotent vs. LHP.
  5. he's starting - he wants the record at home. I was hoping he'd do it in Philly.
  6. I thought the surgery was delayed a month, not two weeks. I could be wrong. Anyway, I've lived and died with this team for my entire life, and I was pissed when they put him in the pen, and I'm more pissed now. I would much rather have had him in April and May than the brief outings in the pen in a season that was already lost last year. I consider much more of a slap in the face that he isn't on the big club right now than I would have had they conceded in August last year. Just because you're not mathematically eliminated doesn't necessarily mean you're still in it, and the Cubs didn't have much of a shot at that point. Besides, how much help did they think Wood was going to give in the pen? That role sure wasn't a difference maker. And Prior's problems and Wood's problems have nothing to do with each other.
  7. that's because you say idiotic things. agreed. does baker really get race-related hate mail? i kind of have a hard time believing that. I have a hard time understanding why you have a hard time believing that. I think most people don't want to believe that. I know I don't. I was genuinely shocked and disturbed when I heard some of the stuff that happened to Hawkins, but that sort of prepared me for this. It seems naieve I know, but when it's not out there for everyone to hear, you forget about it, and wrongly assume that that sort of thing is getting further in the rear view. At least I do. I am sure this is probably not the case for people who are on the recieving end of that garbage, but many of us are blissfully ignorant. It's just really disappointing. Dusty is a lousy manager, but he seems like a really nice guy. Nobody deserves that kind of crap.
  8. I think all ESPN employees are issued official Barry Bonds kneepads when they are hired.
  9. With frilly ribbon wrapped around the handle.
  10. yeah, because the guy w/ speed is in a massive slump. get murton on w/ a single or walk and they need two base hits to get him in. good luck stringing those hits together, w/ this club. bat cedeno first instead and up the chances of getting someone across the plate. station to station baseball doesn't work w/ one power hitter. probably not even two. get three and probably. But Murton getting on base more and going station to station definitely outweighs Pierre rarely getting on base and maybe taking an extra base. I have no problem moving Pierre to 7th or 8th. I'd just prefer Cedeno leading off over Murton. Cedeno 1 & Murton 2 is fine w/ me. But Cedeno's OBP isn't that great, either. Better than Pierre's, but not lead-off caliber.
  11. Perhaps I didn't make it obvious enough, but I was being facetious.
  12. Fixed. Nah, they would have to be hard hit grounders for that.
  13. Bat Murton first and Pierre second. Juan would be great at hitting the ball to the right side to advance the runner.
  14. Pujols is not very clutch. Don't tell that to Lidge down in Houston. I've met Brad Lidge. He's a nice guy. Too nice. I could take him in a fight. My dad can beat up your dad. Oh yeah? My mom can beat up your dad.
  15. God I hope not. Then it will be "ending the trip on a positive note", and prolonging this charade. cmon. seems like people are starting to root against this club. it's way too early. What I fear the most is the team hanging around long enough for Hendry to play the injury card and reward Dusty with an extension in return for his years of dumbassery. I don't see the Cubs having any real success with Dusty at the helm. He needs to go, the sooner the better.
  16. God I hope not. Then it will be "ending the trip on a positive note", and prolonging this charade.
  17. More and more recently, I have found myself wishing that I could just have a one on one conversation with Hendry, and simply try and reason with him. I just want to know what exactly it is he is thinking.
  18. I remember the 8-game losing streak the Cubs had last year, and was nearly to the point that I wanted to see it continue so something had to be done. I am now at that point. Heads have got to roll soon to save next season. this offseason created some problems for next season. Sure it did, but many other can be solved by scrapping this coaching staff, for starters. As long as these jokers and their bass-ackwards philosophy are running the show, most everything else is superfluous. Guys like Jones can be traded.

  20. I said this last year in June when the Cubs were struggling, and I'll say it again: if this thing is going to go south, I hope it goes WAY south. If the Cubs aren't going to win, I hope they tank so badly the heads have to roll. This talk of extending Baker literally makes me ill.
  21. If that's the case, can you please provide your explanation of why he became a free agent in the first place? If he was so adamant about staying, why did he file for free agency? Ummm, to try and get more money?
