  1. All 4 of those teams would probably win the Big Ten. If you don't think UNC, Duke, UConn, Pitt, or Louisville would all win the Big Ten you're delusional. The only sport the Big Ten has a consistent shot at winning the national championship in is wrestling... ACC and Big East consistently have a shot to win in basketball... SEC and Big 12 consistently have a shot to win in football... the Big Ten has fallen by the wayside in the last 5 years in the major sports... wrestling is a major sport??? the worlds oldest and greatest. If anyone other than an Iowan or a wrestler said that, I'd be surprised.
  2. interesting Not really. He obviously was using "tic-tacs" as a euphemism for something innocent. Its not that baseball players make bad analogies it that you guys are crazy. Well, let's put is this way: ARod didn't take the time to craft his analogy carefully enough to avoid confusing those feverishly obsessed with dissecting every statement to extract or illuminate hidden meaning. Better?
  3. You know I once dated a chick who looked like a younger Cynthia Nixon. Not one of my prouder moments. neither is realizing I know her name, either. I'm married, sue me.
  4. interesting i thought so. but unless i missed something (which i doubt, considering all the attention this story has got) the media didn't pick up on this. That's because reading anything into that statement at all is preposterous. not really. it would be kind of weird for him to compare an injection to tic tacs. I really don't expect professional athletes to make good analogies. I think that statement is about as innocuous as it gets.
  5. What complete nonsense. Yeah, that's pretty much sensationalistic hacking at it's finest.
  6. I assume he also thinks the Astros should be stripped of their National League title that they won with Clemens as well if he is proven guilty, correct? You mean with Clemens AND Pettite? I have a feeling players will be sanctimonious about this so long as the shoe is on the other foot. Besides, Roy Oswalt is a primo dbag. Nothing he says should be taken seriously.
  7. I'm not usually one to defend Meph, but Dex was asking for it. And it is a very valid and compelling argument, even if the data pool isn't very deep. I am concerned about Kosuke, but I am far from ready to jump on the panic wagon and label him a bust. But only time will tell. I guess I was asking for it, but he brought it himsel by basically telling IMB he was being foolish for wanting to see if Kosuke can actually hit before giving him the leadoff spot... as if that's so unreasonable When the alternative may be Aaron Miles, it might be unreasonable.

  9. I don't understand this at all. The Cubs are clearly the best team in the division. They've even added distance between them and the next best team. How can you not be excited? This team on paper is better than last's years team at this point. how the hell is this year's team better than last years Last year's team at this point had Pie in CF and Fuku in RF, and didn't have Rich Harden. This year's has Rich Harden, Bradley in RF and Fuk in CF. Granted, DeRosa gets most of his AB's replaced by Fontenot and there's no Wood, but I'd still take this team with Bradley and Harden over the one we opened with last year. I guess at this time last year most expected Dempster to mediocre/bad, so between modified expectation and Harden, the rotation looks a lot better. The outfield looks better offensively. The middle infield looks worse, but I don't think Fontenot will produce much less than what we expected DeRosa to last season. The bullpen looks worse, but we weren't really sure what we were going to get out of Wood. So I guess if we look at the team knowing what we know now, it looks worse. But I feel better than I did last year at the same time.

This team on paper is better than last's years team at this point. how the hell is this year's team better than last years Yeah, I'm sure not seeing that. It is better relative to the rest of the division, for what that's worth.
  11. That's the same thing as being on steroids and HGH for years. Greenies, spit balls, sandpaper, blah, blah, blah - not close to having the same effect on the game as steroids and HGH. I really think that it was so pervasive that there wasn't a whole lot of competitive edge to be gained. And at the time it was going on, it wasn't banned. Really, I think all the indignation over steroids is lame. People can get up on their high horses, but you know they were all enjoying the hell out of it at the time. There's always going to be a case to be made against someone. You could even say that the talent pool pre-1960's was so shallow that record holders from that era almost certainly wouldn't approach those records had they played today. And there was a long stretch where damn near the entire league was geeked up on amphetamines. You just can't go in and start re-writing the record books.
  12. Yeah, there's so much wrong there I wouldn't know where to begin.
  13. I'm still praying for it to be Jeter oh my yes. It would be epic to see how the media reacted to that The Bronx would implode.
  14. To be fair, you can be kind of a tool when it comes to the Illini. to put it mildly That said, I'm not about to take any crap from a Mizzou fan.
  15. Yeah, he probably used PED's. He was still damn near the only reason to tune into a Cubs game for a long time. I enjoyed it immensely, and the steroid revelations of the past couple years have barely diminished it for me, if at all.
  16. I'm really over the whole steroids thing. What really bothers me is how the other sports get a free pass (you know a large percentage of those monstrosities in the NFL are juicing - or there has been a severe pituitary disorder outbreak), yet MLB is vilified. Athletes have always looked for an edge, in every sport. I would bet one of my kidneys that if you went back and offered some of the old timers what is available today, they'd jump all over it. Hell, I'd like to have seen how much more the Mick could have done with some HGH for his knees, and I bet he would have as well. Tar, sandpaper, spitballs, cork, amphetamines, stickum, steroids, and on and on. And it the future it will be something else. Purists and the naive hate to hear that, but it's the cold, hard truth.
  17. I have never heard anyone say there were standing "on line" in my life. If I did, I would probably ask them wtf they were talking about.
  18. I have seen more than enough. And if being creeped out by an entire country isn't a sign of some sort of psychological issue/neurosis, I don't know what is. Yeah, my bad. The used panty vending machines and tentacle rape cartoon porn are perfectly normal. Oh, I see. Since those are in/from Japan, they are representative of the country in general. Thanks for setting me straight. Anyway, this is my last non-Peavy related post in this thread.
  19. See, that's disturbing, but no more than a John Waters film.
  20. I'm not creeped out by the anime. I'm creeped out by ski. OK, this is understandable. :-))

  22. Has anyone ever said "hey, cool pic"? Almost certainly not. But I still think that anyone who is "creeped out" by anime has some sort of underlying issue. That's just weird.
  23. I'm putting McGwire, Clemens and Bonds in the Hall too if I had a chance. But if McGwire has trouble cracking 25%, there's no way Sosa gets in. I'd bet Sosa is looked upon more favorably than McGwire. Idiots view McGwire as a one dimensional HR or nothing hitter. I agree. And even though most assume Sosa was on the juice, no one has ever directly pointed their finger at him, he hadn't been under suspicion before the witch hunt began as Mac was (the andro thing), and he didn't give as poor a performance in Washington as Mac did. I'd say Sosa is looked upon a lot more favorably than McGwire is at this point, for right or wrong.
  24. I've actually tried to figure it out myself. She's not very attractive and is pretty much just skin and bones. And who's her brother? Angelina was pretty damn hot back in the Hackers-Gia days. It's been downhill since. I think it's the hot girl gets really famous and thinks she has to become a skeleton phenomena.
