  1. I don't know, but I've discovered he really gets under the skin of a lot of Cards fans, which is an added benefit.
  2. Hey, at least you still get the benefit of his defensive prowess.
  3. Who sang the stretch? Dutchie Caray and Pete Vanochen, who I am pretty sure is 206 years old. I thought he was going to go into cardiac arrest and fall out of the booth at one point.
  4. I thought for sure we were going to see someone die while doing the stretch.
  5. I have an acquaintance (a Cards fan) who met Garza at a bar when he was with the Rays, and says he was one of the coolest and friendliest people he's ever met. Apparently Garza BS'ed with him and his friends for a couple hours, like he was just another guy. He said he hated it when he was traded to the Cubs because he couldn't help but root for him. All evidence so far seems to corroborate that Matt is a really cool guy.
  6. Why should you care at all? I've never understood that there is absolutely zero problem in perception with people taking all sorts of powders and pills and supplements in order to get stronger, but when we cross into the arbitrary "steroid" classification, suddenly guys are just popping pills that make them into the Hulk. As if the guys who don't take steroids are doing nothing but calisthenics in order to get stronger or something. It's completely nonsensical. I'm in this camp. Steroid users are damaging their long term health, but beyond that, I just don't care. There is a pharmacological bonanza out there, most of it legal and effective. And for the record, I don't think Bautista is using steroids. If there is a new undetectable stew out there, you'd think Manny would have been using it. It's steroid-era paranoia.
  7. I'm just overly sentimental, but the joy of putting up runs is tempered a bit by the fact it is against Lilly.
  8. our GM will be homegrown too, once the Ricketts wise up and put Roast in charge Roast would have the benefit of being able to consult NSBB prior to all decisions. But things would quickly deteriorate when his first signings turn out Eminem and D12.
  9. He's hit the ball hard quite a bit, not just lately. I don't know his babip or LD% off hand, but the eyeball test tells be he's hit into quite a bit of bad luck.
  10. To make their fans feel better about Prince walking. Still an entirely unnecessary move.
  11. I don't think there were any realistic scenarios where Prince stayed, anyway. I just really hope he doesn't get traded at the deadline. He won't, unless something unforeseen happens. The Brewers are all in on this season. It's their best remaining chance of realizing the promise of all the young talent they had. They've got no farm system left, and Fielder is gone after this year and Grienke the next. It's now or never (or at least no time soon) for the Crew.
  12. I don't think there were any realistic scenarios where Prince stayed, anyway.
  13. Yeah, then he had to go and apologize. Don't do that. You were right the first time! He still has to play there. That realization is probably what prompted the apology.
  14. If his knee is OK to run he should have played in the NFC CHampionship game and taken us to the Super Bowl! LOL nice... Probably sarcastic there I imagine as it's been 3 months (his recovery was half that time max) since the NFCC game and he ran the mile in about 10 minutes and 12 seconds. I wouldn't call that "running". That's a jogging pace. That's not even a jogging pace. More like a powerwalking pace.
  15. You better, because non-reactionary thinking isn't allowed in the game thread.
  16. Yeah, it seems he's either striking guys out or getting squared up. It's confounding.
  17. This. Add the Castro throw, and it was just an awful defensive sequence. We are kind of an odd team. Not a ton of power, not much speed, not great defensively. Yeah. But that wasn't a lack of speed, Byrd was either loafing, or didn't read the ball at all.
  18. This. Add the Castro throw, and it was just an awful defensive sequence.
  19. Knew this was coming. I had a faint hope they wouldn't work something out, but given what Boston gave up to get him, it was highly unlikely they'd let him get away. And Prince isn't as good as AGon (offensively or defensively), but he is a Boras client.
  20. Fan = fanatic And if you can pull yourself away from your team, you don't really live and die with it.
  21. Good. Nothing should mitigate the Ryan Braun hate around here. Yeah, I hope the bug-eyed douchebag charges Z sometime and gets himself maimed.
  22. On a related note, Japanese golfer Ryo Ishikawa will donate all of his 2011 winnings to the relief effort and an additional $1200 for every birdie he makes. Ishikawa has averaged about 1.2MM per year over the past 3 years, and made 341 birdies last year.
  23. That sounds good, but it's easier said than done. And being inconsistent to keep guys on their toes might be a nice coaching tactic at lower levels of sport, but at the highest level where winning is everything, it'd be pretty damned stupid. And from what I gather, it's also pretty rare not to post lineups early. But I suspect Lou just wasn't into it towards the end.
