  1. It was only a matter of time. I can't check youtube at work but please tell me it's the return of Creepy Cardinals Fan. Nope. Random Pujols jersey burning.
  2. I'd be totally on board with a $50MM posting + 5/50 type deal.
  3. Is this a risk we're willing to take? I remember Matsuzaka being considered a "can't miss," and well.. he missed. Darvish is quite a bit better than Daisuke was.
  4. Well if they're inclined to pursue them, the Marlins have a huge advantage with Cuban players.
  5. Exactly the kind of stuff the Cardinals were hoping would be the headlines. A better one would have been "Lack of respect comes home to roost". Well funnier, at least.
  6. Anaheim is a much better situation, all things considered.
  7. No they aren't. They're trying to sell tickets and make a short term splash. Why do you think they don't give out NTCs? Have you not been paying attention for the past 14 years? And the contracts are bad. Old/injury prone guys they paid more than anyone else would have.
  8. But his friend said he wants to play for the Cubs. Who was a friend of a friend of a distant relative. Just amazing that the [expletive] Marlins are going this hard after everyone and we can't do [expletive]! You're acting like an hysterical woman. You have no idea what Theo and Jed are doing and seem to forget the Marlins are out to drum up positive PR, so are likely leaking things left and right and putting their name into everything. Calm the [expletive] down.
  9. Don't hold your breath. Even if the Cubs sign Prince, Boras is going to push for a protracted bidding war.
  10. They've been left in the cold, but have also gotten their man in the past. True, but not so much recently. Aramis, Konerko, Crawford, etc. Plus they've been hurting offensively. I had my doubts when they didn't get into the AP bidding early, but that he ended up there is hardly a shock. Add Wilson to the rotation and Pujols to the lineup and that team is going to be awfully good next year.
  11. Eh, I never felt like he would be coming here anyway. Just didn't seem like a fit.
  12. they can command all they want, nobody is giving him that. No one thought 250 or 260 would be given to Albert and it happened. I thought he might even get more. 10/250 was widely speculated. 10/200 was where rumors heated up this winter, but suggesting that nobody thought Pujols would come close to the biggest contract in MLB just doens't hold up. Before the 2011 season I thought he had a legit shot at 10/300, but after I thought 10/250 was probably the ceiling. I'm surprised but not shocked he got what he did. I am glad it wasn't us.
  13. so i overstated Boston and NYY's chances, but i hit big on possibility of LAA and MIA edit: hey, another prescient prophecy (April '10): except it was like four guys, i guess I'm not going to trudge the instances up, but I called the Angels as a likely spot numerous times over the past year. Arte Moreno & Co. had been left in the cold on free agents on a number of occasions and figured they'd get tired of it and strike hard at some point.
  14. He was upset because the Cards didn't want to give him 10yrs 250-275m. You mean his now established market worth? If the Cards would have offered Puhols an 8/180 deal when Mark Tiexeira signed his contract with the Yankees, I bet he would have taken it. They decided to let him keep playing at a discount. They made their business decision. Puhols just made his. Exactly. They were spoiled by him and essentially took him for granted, and now it has come back to bite them in the ass. Cardinals fans may delude themselves with romantic notions that Albert would always stay because of "honor" and "legacy" or because of some misguided notion that St. Louis is such a bastion of baseball that he couldn't pry himself away. But those in charge either decided keeping him long term would prove too costly and decided to make the pretense of trying to keep him or they're morons who bought into the same crap the fans did. Again, Cards fans have zero reason to be mad at Albert. They're acting like kids who were spoiled for too long and are having a tantrum when it stops.
  15. It'll make them a better team in 4-5 years, but it sure as hell doesn't make them better now. It doesn't make them better at any point. It may allow them to more easily try and get better, but nothing about him leaving makes them better. That contract would have turned into an albatross for St. Louis. Put it this way, not signing him to a competitive offer is in their long term best interests.
  16. It'll make them a better team in 4-5 years, but it sure as hell doesn't make them better now.
  17. If the Cards had signed him to a fair market extension (or even close) a year or two ago, this wouldn't be happening. Pujols gave the Cards 11 years of the best production most of us have ever seen for well below what he was worth and led them to 2 World Series titles and a bunch of playoff appearances. He was a charitable citizen and model teammate. He owed the team and the city of St. Louis absolutely nothing. Cards fans painting him as a scumbag now is absolutely ridiculous. But it's funny as hell at the same time.
  18. This. I'd have been awesome it fit were us, but if the Cubs signed him to those terms I would have been sick. Either way, the destruction of the image of Pujols Cardinals fans created in their heads and the coming fallout is and will continue to be glorious.
  19. No, you're not. Pujols is better for sure, but at 9-10 years? No thank you. I wouldn't want Prince for that long either, but at 5-6 years I'd be all right with it.
  20. Sure... I'd be surprised if I got contract offers from teams that didn't exist, too.
  21. Connected to losing Wilson to the fish? Or just more smoke?
