  1. do they rip him for being peyton's brother, or for starting his career like a whiny bitch and then proceeding to not be very good? Plenty of QBs take a few years to figure things out. It's really more the norm than a guy like Peyton. Relatively few QBs are performing at a pro bowl level in their 2nd year. I'm with soccer on this in the sense that I believe too much was expected too soon from Eli, and I do believe part of the reason was because of the pedigree. He's playing like a worthy starter now, and has for awhile. It all began for me right before the draft. I hate the Eagles more than anything, but I don't hate McNabb, same with the Redskins and I don't hate Campbell (well he hasn't done much yet), I hate the Giants but I hate Eli. I'm guessing you don't like him because he whined his way out of SD. I'm not thrilled with it either. But I don't think that's what most New Yorkers think, they just thought they were getting Peyton's clone and so when he turned out to have a lower ceiling (which is pretty clear to me....and was on draft day, too) they freaked out a little bit. ....but having a lower ceiling than one of the greatest QBs ever doesn't mean you can't still do well.
  2. My sources tell me this is all one big psychological experiment, and we're the proverbial lab rats.
  3. Sure, ideally those are the positions you'd look at first. However, an improvement is an improvement and the Cubs are weak enough that it's possible to upgrade in more than those spots. I'd prefer a SS upgrade to anything else, but I'd prefer a 2B upgrade to status quo. It should be noted, that while 2B isn't an obvious need, they still don't have a single everyday 2B on the team. DeRosa is not and has never been an everyday player, let alone an everyday second baseman. DeRosa did appear to tire a bit when he was playing too much. I noted it, and a number of others too. I'd take Roberts, but the back of our rotation is going to be butt-ugly and I'm worried about it. Honestly, I think a Gallagher-Marshall back end would be decent. I was referring to how it would look if we traded Gallagher/Marshall for Roberts...
  4. This time he doesn't get to cherry pick which club he gets to go to.

Good to see that "team discipline" is working out

There were some Wallace and Tyrus for McGrady rumors floating around last week... Pax was on WSCR this morning and flat out said the rumors for McGrady rumors were flat out ridiculous. He then went on a big rant about journalists needing to be held accountable for stuff they make up. It was a pretty good interview this morning, and North hit him pretty hard. North told Pax the Wallace signing has been a terrible signing, in which Pax didnt say a word. I heard part of it. Much as I don't like Mike North, he really opened up on Pax and I thought it was great to hear. I don't know if Pax is living in some kind of dreamworld or what, but he seemed like he had no idea why anyone would be upset with him. I do give him full points for not hanging up though. North also told Pax that the Skiles move was a poor one, to which Pax responded "it was made for the right reasons at the time." That's completely subjective nonsense -- right reasons according to whom?
  8. Hehe... bleep-bleep....Captain's log, stardate 2301.8....

There were some Wallace and Tyrus for McGrady rumors floating around last week... And do you think they'd want just Wallace alone? I don't think so. Tyrus would be the core of that deal. I don't care who they really want, as long as they are willing to take Wallace with him. Ladies and gentlemen, I give you your 2007-2008 Chicago Bulls! Thanks Pax!
  11. Lying to the feds: really, really stupid idea.

Yeah, at this point I would probably just give Wallace to someone to free up the money, if that were possible. I don't think the Lakers, or anyone else, would want him. He's done.
  14. The Cubs need to see if Soto, Pie and Cedeno are worthy of major league jobs. Cedeno has certainly been given a few opportunities, but he's matured now to the point he's either a major league SS or you move on to someone else. And I think he deserves an opportunity to prove whether he's matured enough to be the answer to the hole at SS. These are cheap, internal options that if proven to be good enough production, could allow the team to upgrade elsewhere in the line up at the trade deadline. With those 3 guys, the Cubs really do have more changes to their 2008 line up from their 2007 line up besides Fukudome. Those 3 guys added in with Fukudome makes half their line up "new". Soriano started the season in CF last year, not Pie. Izturis started at SS. Barrett started at C. Soto, Pie and Cedeno combined for just a hair over 300 at bats last year. Why are you pretending Cedeno has a chance for playing time at SS? The Cubs lineup is very similar to the one that ended 2007. Fukudome has replaced Murton/Floyd, and Pie has replaced Jones. We know where the weaknesses are and there is no need to wait to make improvements. Make the upgrades now, and if you need more upgrades later, then you can still do them then. It's Jim, remember?
  15. hmm...thought-provoking. good trade for the cardinals, in my opinion. +1 I think Toronto's on thin ice with this one. Rolen's shoulder seems very Bagwell-esque to me.

Blackhawks have sunk back down. But there's hope for the future if some of these young studs can figure it out. I'm glad to at least have some hope with the Cubs. The Bulls are a trainwreck, and if Paxson thinks he can fire Skiles and thereby assign blame to him for it, then he's sorely, sorely mistaken.

He's a bum, please take him.
  18. On the bottom right had corner. Login first then you'll see it. ...which I really wish wasn't necessary, but that's a different thread.
  19. Hang on everyone, back up the roller coaster we go! Wheeeeee!
  20. They want big value in return for their high-value pieces. I can't really blame them for it. You might be right, sit back and wait to see what happens when the O's are 15 under in July... Then again, if you take that tactic, you might wake up one morning to read the paper and see that another team has snapped him up.
  21. Maybe I am the only one, but I am a Bears fan who doesn't hate the Packers. I don't like them, but that burning hatred just isn't there. Now the Cowboys, there's a team that I hate. I probably dislike the Vikings more than the Pack as well. The Colts, too. Heck, there may be 10 teams I like less than the Pack. I'm similar. I respect the heck out of Favre, and don't really hate anybody currently associated with the team. The Cowboys are a much bigger villain. I wouldn't actually cheer for them or anything, but as things stand now, I think I'd rather see GB win than anybody else. Ditto. Of course if GB wins the Superbowl the NFL is fixed, because Favre will retire on top just like Golden boy, Elway. I really respect Favre too. It's hard to hate these Packers. They were built through the draft, have a lot of young, high motor guys especially on defense -- they've got a running back off the scrap heap, a safety in Bigby who was similarly not highly thought of yet is tearing it up. I won't be doing jumping jacks if they win, but I won't be able to muster up much hatred either. I also agree, the Cowboys are infinitely less likeable.
  22. This thread might garner more hits as its own message board than Second City Hoops. :-"
  23. Well I'm pretty sure he didn't have any writers prepare his speech for him. he may as well have, it might have been more convincing if he had practiced it. I think T.O. might be slightly manic/depressive -- he seems to mood swing at the weirdest times. It didn't seem like something to cry about.
  24. What in the world does the general board opinion of rostering Ronny Cedeno 4 years ago have to do with today? Moving Cedeno would leave the Cubs with just Ryan Theriot as a servicable SS. Nobody else in the system appears to have any chance of ever doing anything in the majors. And Theriot himself isn't really much of a SS, more of a 2B who can move over and not be completely overwhelmed. It's a risky situation to be in. And a situation that the Cubs appear uninterested in fixing, which is very disturbing. Thinking Theriot is the answer at SS is a mistake.
  25. I think it within the realm of possibility that Theriot falls through the floor this year.
