  1. Fiesty they are, but I think the Dolphins will be overmatched in this division in '11.
  2. Nonsense. Unless you base your view of Bears fans off of 20 year old SNL sketches. it's not about a lack of fawning. Idiots have routinely labeled the Bears as the worst team in football without any reasonable defense of such picks. The media in general tends to pile on the negativity surrounding the Bears, apparently due to a lack of franchise QBs for several decades. You will occasionally see a guy like Peter King get overly giddy about them. But it's rare. It is justifiable to say you don't think the Bears will be very good this year and/or they will take a step back. 7-9 is a reasonable prediction, and 10 losses isn't absurd. But picking them to be the worst team in the league is flat out stupid, or purposefully inflammatory. My vote goes to "purposefully inflammatory." It seems to me one of the quickest ways to get your name circulated these days is to bag on a team with a large, dedicated fan base that will freak out over the pick. In 2011's world, that means: call the Bears terrible.
  3. it's like that everywhere, though. Also, you can't read that Barnwell column and objectively say the guy was giving an honest, sober analysis of the game. He got poked on twitter by Bears fans that were berating him and he clearly wrote the column in that frame of mind. It's clear as [expletive] day. haha, i was drunk last night and sent him like 20 messages calling him a [expletive] LOL, that's great.
  4. Might be worth a thread title change since we're @ NO this week.
  5. To state the obvious: this one will be an even bigger test than Atlanta, and GB will be an even bigger test. So we're being put through the gauntlet here, right off the bat. My predictions are worthless, but I do think the Bears can win this game if they do all the things they do when they're successful: limit mistakes, bleed the other team's offense dry, grab a few turnovers, etc. etc. Give Brees & Co. an opening though, and I would think it will go downhill quickly.
  6. Yeah, it's pretty bush league to call a team lucky when it looks like your trashing of them is going to turn out to be really wrong. Just say they looked better than you thought they would, and move on. Nobody gets predictions right anyway. That said, this was week 1. Long way to go. I don't expect the Bears will play this well every game, and I'm sure the Falcons are still a decent/good team.
  7. If yesterday's win was a luck win, then every win is a luck win.
  8. Yeah, don't feel to bad about it. I thought for sure Lovie would be gone by now, but he's managed to turn things around and give himself a little more time. I'm not *too* excited yet, after all it was only week 1 and we have 2 of the best teams in the league the next 2 weeks. But yesterday was loads of fun. A pleasant surprise.
  9. Colts start "adjustment period" without Manning. http://www.usatoday.com/sports/football/nfl/colts/story/2011-09-11/colts-start-new-season-without-peyton-manning/50364334/1 That's an interesting way to put it.
  10. Yeah, I just saw this on the morning news. She's way too old to still have these juvenile outbursts. Time to grow up a bit.
  11. He's pretty cool. I like that the cheering during the anthem has caught on when he sings for other Chicago sports teams besides the Blackhawks. The fact that people from other cities don't like it and think its disrespectful only makes me like it more. I'm not sure how cheering with excitement while your national anthem is sung could be considered disrespectful but whatever. He was in top form yesterday. He went to point at the flag, and it was like -- the whole field is the flag, uh just point out there somewhere, anywhere.
  12. I think that was partially a product of Atlanta having big problems up front. But yes, it was really nice to see. We harrassed Ryan all game. And he really couldn't handle it very well. Melton is turning out to be a diamond in the rough. Definitely looking forward to seeing what he can bring in the future.
  13. Yep. That right there is why Romo will never be a championship QB. Terrible.
  14. I am probably the biggest Cam Newton fan around. He made legit throws today. I figured Carolina would reel him in by having him throw a bunch of screens and dumpoffs with the occassional post route mixed in. But they seemed to dial up the whole playbook, and he made every single throw. Heck of a jump up from that faker, Clausen. That's for [expletive] sure.
  15. Dudes. We actually looked pretty damn good today. 1st game, too. We came ready to lay a beat down. This was a great day. I'm a happy Bear fan right now. This was great!
  16. Kaeding was carted off earlier. They are down to using the punter for kicks.
  17. After watching them today -- especially that OLine -- I'm not sure they really did. Seems like they are a little like us in that respect. They have issues up front and it doesn't look like they addressed them. Yeah the Falcons gave up too much for Julio Jones and that hurt their ability to solidify their overall team. Julio might end up being a hell of a WR but the short-term gains are not going to justify the cost of that trade. I thought the Jones pickup was perfect. They needed another speedy WR to stretch the field. But for some reason the OC didn't call anything deep all game. Wasn't that the point of giving 5 guys for Jones? Well, how often can you throw the ball deep to him if the QB doesn't have time to throw it? ;) The problem is that they needed to trade 5 guys to draft him. No speed receiver is worth that much unless the rest of your team is perfectly aligned which obviously Atlanta has other issues too. They'll need to get Ryan more time if they hope to utilize Jones to his fullest, although obviously it's great to have a guy like that available. It's week 1. I'm sure they will improve. They're probably still at least a contender to make the playoffs, if not a conference contender.

  19. Hah, Chargers way to open the season.
  20. I hate how something silly like that will hurt Jay's stat line. It was a very nice, athletic play by Atlanta.
  21. Martz is starting to feel it in his 2nd year here. I'm not sure whether to be excited, or afraid :)
  22. Yeah, it's highly unlikely they wouldn't score anyway. Although, I'd rather lose a timeout on a scoring play challenge, than be like Atlanta and waste a timeout on a 3rd and inches.
  23. Bend, but don't break. There's a time and a place for that philosophy, but in general I hate it. That drive was more about selling out on a 3rd and short, getting out of position, and nearly giving up a huge TD run. After that, it was an attempt to salvage whatever they could.
