    To me it’s just accepting that the early season Cubs were streaking. Maybe they aren’t THIS mediocre, or maybe they are. But they are not going to play like they did in say May, unless we are talking about another big streak. But at this point we are dealing with tired / banged up players. So it is what it is. Probably .500 the rest of the way, then see about the playoffs “where anything can happen.”

    I would love to see Fields put in a solid season. He had so many headwinds in Chicago.

    That’s where I’m at. There’s probably some truth to it. Regardless, Caleb has a chance to move forward with what everyone believes is a top quality offense-minded coach. If he fails, he fails. He wasn’t meant to be a successful NFL QB then. And we move on.

    Hottest team in baseball is Tampa Bay. White Sox are on a 4 game winning streak. The Padres were the biggest movers & shakers at the deadline and they’re on a 4 game bender. 2-8 in the last 10. So yeah…baseball is stupid. Got to apply some perspective. Other teams are struggling too. Padres fans are probably wondering what the hell is going on.

    Definitely. And I’ll take that as a small positive nugget from tonight. At least CC knows enough to save his good arms.

    The way I see it this is just another struggling starter the Cubs couldn’t hit. It just doesn’t bode well for a team that will face genuine quality pitching in the playoffs.

    It feels like Cubs are the cure for every bad pitcher in the league. If you really suck, don’t worry. The Cubs will make you look good.

    A day’s rest isn’t the worst thing IMO. Maybe a couple days for PCA too, although the impact to our defense would be significant.

    A $140 million check cut to each owner, no requirement to spend it on payroll? Expansion will happen.

    It’s tough when you open against a quality opponent. Win and your season is shot out of a gun, lose and it’s a weight on your back the rest of the way. That was a good football game to watch.

    That was fun. Man was he pissed.. On replay it looked like he was right and the hitter went around. Another ump even came over and started yelling at him too.
