  1. If the stats haven't put us in our rightful place by August 24th, then I'd say there's a pretty good chance they simply won't be a good predictor in this case.
  2. I didn't expect a division crown so I'm happy we're in first. But I agree it's a frustrating season to watch when your chief rivals stumble and you can't take advantage. Then watching the Cards creep up.......the sense of "here we go again" starts to become more prominent.
  3. Well at least I know about the loss now, and not right before bed. For some reason I handle day losses better :) I can go home and do something else, forget about the game.
  4. Personally, I wouldn't say anything. But I think most guys still recognize the value of giving it an honest effort even in a sure loss. There's no reason to tank an AB and hurt your personal stats if you can help it.
  5. words to live by. probably should be your sig. seriously though, can we quit whining about luck for a while? the cubs just won two games they should have lost and they miss webb this weekend. if the brewers had missed webb and won two games in two days in their last ab, this board would probably explode into the biggest pity party of all time...i mean, it practically crashed when gabe gross went 2-4 or whatever. Alright, I'll quit whining.
  6. Projects should never turn into Chris Carpenter. He's another good example of this. Carp was mired in mediocrity in TOR -- his ERA+ from those days looks pretty much like Marquis to me. 91, 106, 112, 79, 116, 85......just bobbing up above the 100 mark occasionally, and then tanking well below in other seasons. Then he comes off devastating arm surgery to put up this: 121, 151, 143. Mediocre pitcher, devastating arm surgery........then suddenly Cy Young?? Who else has ever done this? It's not at all shocking that Carpenter rebounded as well as he did. He had great stuff before surgery, was a first round pick and a solid prospect. I'm with abuck. How dare you side against me!! J/K, I know he had great stuff. Lots of guys have great stuff though, and don't make it. Here's what I wish: that we were smart enough to pick up Carp instead of the Cards 8-) Not the follow-up deal, though...
  7. *raises hand* I wasn't a fan of it, and then when he started off bad I came here and criticized the deal. Not afraid to admit it :) Hopefully I continue being wrong about this one. I just thought given Kendall's recent past that he might be running out of gas. The move has really regenerated him, although he's still not all that strong defensively. At least he doesn't appear to make the kind of boneheaded baserunning mistakes that Barrett was making.
  8. Probably alot. Go to his wiki page and just look at the list of judicial filings that are listed as references. All those had to be processed, and it doesn't look like he's finished, not by a long shot. It might be a good idea to get a mental diagnosis on the guy and see if some medication can't be administered...
  9. It's the greatest stuff ever. I can't believe I haven't heard of this guy until now. Hours of fun are to be found in the writings of Mr. Riches: http://news.justia.com/cases/441190/ awesome.
  10. I think either MIL or STL will be hot down the stretch, and we will need to play well above .500 to win this thing.
  11. Rich Hill has been really good. He didn't get the win last night, but just amazing he's having another good stretch run. He was good in the 2nd half last year too IIRC. Marquis with a really big performance against Lincy, keeping it alive so we could win it in the end. Many would have looked at that pitching matchup and given us very little chance. The offense has been sputtering, so these pitching performances from the middle and back of the rotation are huge, IMHO. But late-inning run scoring, like what we saw a couple nights ago, is a most welcome sight.
  12. Complete flatline. Funny.
  13. Dude. Buy a ALL CAPS TYPEWRITER
  14. Yeah considering some of the other combos we've had I'll take it.
  15. Hi-larious.
  16. Booing an opposing team is about the dumbest thing that fans do. Walks are good! You fans seem to think your team could better score by letting the guy hit. Thus, how can you blame/boo the away team for walking him? Dumb :D I see what you mean, but booing is fun 8-) BOOOOOOO!

  18. Well, you look great if you get Molina out, and if you don't you look like a turd.
  19. REading Lou's lips: "Wanna walk this guy"
  20. you say that like it's surprising. he's one of the best pitchers in the league. It is a little suprising to me. I thought awhile back he might be heading for some struggles, but he turned it around. Now he just can't buy any run support.
  21. Won't shed a tear for the guy who won't shut up come January. Even if I'd prefer a winter in Chicago to a winter in LA? It's quaint from afar. As if I haven't lived in Chicago before and don't visit a few Christmases. :) Yeah, you'll be taking your kids to the snow machine this holiday season. Wimp!
  22. I can't take this not scoring for Hill anymore. I'm afraid he's going to lose confidence or something, and he's actually doing pretty well of late. Kendall single.
