  1. they're getting Smoltz and Hudson on Friday and Saturday. And their rotation is pretty awful as is outside of Smoltz and Hudson. Chuck James and Jo Jo Reyes have been consistently in the rotation, but the fifth spot has been held down for a while by Lance Cormier. Yes, the same Lance Cormier that Soriano went deep on every single AB earlier this year. Basically, Jeff Bennett is pitching instead of Cormier. That could be a blessing for us.
  2. It's funny actually how people perceive the two different players -- Howard is awesome, but Dunn is terrible. Personally, I'd take 'em both on my team. I think the difference in perception is largely on the defensive abilities of each. Dunn is one of the worst defenders in baseball, Howard is, at least, perceived to be a pretty good defender. Not that it's right or wrong, but I think that's a big factor.
  3. Gutierrez gets out of the first with no damage! Woo-hoo! Now we just need to be able to watch the Cubs.
  4. I'm guessing there's something wrong with ESPN's broadcast right now because it seems like everyone is getting ESPN News right now. I'm just getting a black screen saying "this program is not available in your area" on ESPN. That's why I thought I was blacked out. I still think that, but this is generally weird.
  5. Come on. Don't pretend Cincinnatti is all that far away.
  6. Apparently, we're local viewers of the Reds. We should just turn on our local Cincinnatti station. Muncie, IN and blacked out....suck What the crap's going on? It seems like almost everybody's blacked out.
  7. It's really stupid. I can never watch Reds games on my EI, but I thought at least ESPN would freaking show it. I'm pissed because now I have to put up with the Astro broadcasters.

  9. I'm blacked out on ESPN too because I'm supposedly in the Reds' local viewing area. It's ridiculous.
  10. Heh, the Cubs don't deserve to make the playoffs either way but they're in a division where 85 wins should get them in. This is true. And the Brewers no more deserve to make the playoffs than the Cubs, so, since somebody undeserving is going to get in, it might as well be us. :D
  11. So this means if we beat the Reds tonight, they'll be mathematically eliminated. Correct? You betcha! So this means if we beat the Reds tonight, they'll be mathematically eliminated. Correct? Yep. Many thanks to you both!
  12. So this means if we beat the Reds tonight, they'll be mathematically eliminated. Correct?
  13. I honestly wouldn't be surprised. For whatever reason they have the Brewers number this year. That's going to feel so very, very dirty rooting for the Cardinals. Just keep reminding yourself why you're doing it. That might keep you sane.
  14. The original question stipulated there were two outs. I don't think that changes the outcome, just the reasoning. Fair enough...the man on base is still a potential out though no matter how many outs there are. If you have the choice of him scoring, or leaving him out there...why take the risk of him getting out on a pickoff or some other baserunning gaffe? This is an excellent point no one has brought up. The more I think about it, the more I prefer the home run. Outside of the batter's mentality, there's nothing really supporting not guaranteeing the fourth run.
  15. Only the Shadow knows...

  17. There's something to be said for the pitcher's side of things, too. Some guys have trouble pitching out of the stretch as opposed to pitching out of the windup. It's not a universal for all pitchers, but it's something which can have an impact. True, but in the situation laid out, the closer's in and most closers couldn't care less about the runners. Most focus entirely on the hitter.
  18. I have the distinct feeling that, because Athens, Tennessee is apparently in the Cincinnatti Reds viewing area, that I'll be blacked out from this game even though it's on ESPN. Apparently, somebody out there thinks I can watch Reds games on local TV. Or that I can just hop, skip and jump up to Cincy to catch the game. Heck, it's just two states away. :?
  19. This is kind of how I feel. In a purely hypothetical situation, I'd take the home run (and, thus, fourth run on the board) over the double. But, if for some reason the next batter feels better hitting with men on, I guess I'd prefer the double so he'll be more comfortable. Ultimately, I don't think it matters a lot either way. The same stuff needs to happen in either situation.
  20. Briefly off topic: I admit that I took Bush in the 1st round, but I had like the 10th or 11th pick. I made up for it by picking Randy Moss in like the 4th or 5th round. Ok...back to the thread at hand. Another slight derailing, I took Bush in the third round, but figured he'd be worth it due to kick and punt return TDs and the ability to break any run for a TD. Sadly, though, I'm not sure he's returning right now, so he's been a bust. Aren't those points allocated to defense/special teams in your league? I think if it's an offensive player that does it, it counts toward his offensive stats too. If not, I think I'm going to feel kind of dumb. :? I'm almost positive kick returns would go to him since they're not credited to any other part of the team. Also, he's only my second running back behind Rudi Johnson, so I can live with him getting fewer points.
