  1. Despite getting hit harder in his second inning, Stevens had a really good outing tonight.
  2. It is Stevens for a second inning. I don't know Guzman's availability, though.
  3. 2 HR's allowed but only 1 R. Interesting. That's how good Wandy's been - each home run counts for only half a run now. :)
  4. Wandy's past 28 days: 0.62 ERA 29 IP 21 hits 2R, 2ER 27:5 K:BB 0.897 WHIP
  5. Yea this team has sucked scoring runs lately...Oh wait they are averaging almost 6 runs a game since the break.... Wandy's been beyond stellar recently as well. Hard to expect much against him right now.
  6. I never thought about posting that when I read it the other day. I don't really like it, but oh well.
  7. Only if they pay a significant amount of his salary. 08:$8.5M, 09:$12M, 10:$12M, 11:$12M, 12:$12M club option ($1M buyout) That's a lot of money, even for a very good closer. Yea when I say off their hands, I was meaning by robbing them blind. :D So, Kevin Hart and Aaron Miles for Cordero + the Reds play his salary? I guess I could handle that. :D

  9. The four game sweep came from July 28 to July 31 of last year.
  10. I wonder what impact Dickerson hurting himself yesterday had on these rumors?
  11. With Harden, Lilly and Dempster all having been injured this year, I wouldn't mind a 6-man rotation if we got Duke.
  12. Dempster tomorrow I believe. okay, i thought they weren't activating him until Wednesday, but perhaps tat changed when Lilly got DL'd Yeah, Lilly going on the DL pushed everybody up a day - including Dempster coming off the DL himself.
  13. Had Lou brought him in to start the inning up 4+ runs, I could see your long-term point a bit more. However, he brought him into a situation where he was unlikely to face more than a batter or two unless he imploded. The way he's pitched of late, an implosion was pretty unlikely, so I think it was an ok decision.
  14. I was following this one on my phone, but wasn't it still a save situation when the bottom of the 8th started? Therefore Gregg was likely up anyway. And then they went to Samardzija once they extended the lead, correct? I don't get not having a problem with them using him once they already warmed him up. Actually using him is added stress. Having him warm up but not using him isn't ideal rest, but it's more restful than actually bringing him into the game to pitch, again. He was already up warming in the bottom of the eighth, I forgot. I would have preferred if he had not been used, but at the same time with Shark not pitching well I can understand the desire to bring him in and try to stomp out the rally before it got any further.
  15. This is the biggest part. I don't want to replace him just for the sake of replacing him. But, looking for a SS upgrade as well opens up our options a bit.
  16. Really? Really what? It would have been nice to get Gregg a day off, and there was no reason to bring him in right there. Let Shark get the 1 out and if he cant do it and they get within range to tie it then bring in Gregg. Gregg pitched in every game of the series and threw alot of pitches Friday. We are in a stretch of 30 games in 31 days, when you have a chance to rest him, it needs to be done. Gregg was already up in the pen - and I think he should have been - so I don't think coming in for one batter caused any undue stress to his arm. It would have been very nice to give him the day off and if Shark had enjoyed an easy 9th, Gregg may not have even gotten up in the pen. Since he did, though, I don't have a big problem with him coming in. I was thinking that Lou only bringing in Gregg for 1 out the last 2 games was his way of giving him a bit of a rest, although he still needs to get up, warm up, etc. That may be, but I think he didn't want to even get him up yesterday - hence why he began the inning with Shark. But, Shark struggled a lot and Gregg got up anyway - so I don't see a big problem with him being used once he had gotten up.
  17. Its not even slowly. He is a well rounded hitter. I just wish he could stop making those pesky fielding and base running mistakes. Agreed. The Riot is actually one of my favorite players on this team. I'm hoping we can move him to 2B sooner rather than later and I believe he can be the starting 2b for years to come on a very successful team. I disagree. Whatever value he has is primarily derived from the fact that he plays SS. At 2B, he'd be more of an offensive liability. The offensive capabilities of a second baseman vs a shortstop aren't all that different. For instance, this season Theriot's .771 OPS ranks him 11th out of all major league shortstops. If he were to move to second base with those same numbers, he'd be the 15th best second baseman. Add in his improved defense at second and I don't think there's a drop in value at all. In fact, I think he'd become more valuable at second base.
  18. Any estimate of how much he would make in arbitration if he did accept the offer? By no means am I an expert, but I would guess in the $7-8 million range. He's making $4.2 million this year so that guess might be a bit high, but he's having a very good year so far. If his numbers continue the way they are and the Cubs continue to improve - thus giving him more saves - I could see him going that high. That guess may be too high, though.
  19. A combined .509 winning percentage for the teams on the Cubs' upcoming schedule.
  20. Because we play in the worst division in baseball - that's how. We've actually got a better winning percentage against the NL East (.588) than the NL Central (.562). Obviously we've won more games against the Central, but we've handled the Eastern teams slightly better to this point.

  22. I'm not quite sure what it was that made him struggle earlier in the year. He wasn't injured and the demotion was just a "finding himself" period, like you said. His K:BB ratio wasn't much worse than it is now (22:9 and 15:4 in April and May), but he gave up 35 hits in 26 innings in April and 31 hits in 17.2 innings in May. Since then he's allowed fewer hits than innings pitched in June and July - but I have no idea what he's doing differently now that he wasn't doing the first two months. Nolasco was severely unlucky earlier this year. He had a historically low strand rate causing his ERA to be much higher than his peripherals. Yeah, that makes sense considering he wasn't walking a lot of guys and was giving up a ton of hits. Thanks.

  24. I don't have a problem with Reed leading off against lefties. I might actually like to see him bat second with Bradley first against lefties this year (because of Reed's .455 SLG behind Bradley's OBP). I doubt that happens, though.
