  1. Alright, year 4 of this. It's been productive in the past and seems like a popular idea still. So here we go. Sign-ups for teams can start now (post in this thread or PM me) and we'll get started once all the teams have been filled. Basically, the premise is this: 1. We'll need at least one person for each of the 30 teams. 2.The first person will be the person of record for that team, but it might be fun to have a bit of a "war room" type of activity. We'll limit War Rooms to five per team. 3. War Rooms participants should share IM names and might want to form a private chat room to discuss their selections. It is recommended that War Rooms take a vote on picks after the discussion and allow the person of record make the pick. If a consensus cannot be reached, the first person to sign up for each team will make the final decision. 4. Picks will be made in real-time, with a set amount of time between picks. After that time ends, a pick will be made for that team - much like the actual draft itself. Each slot will have 24 hours to make a pick. (Idea and wording courtesy of vance_the_cubs_fan) Posters can double and triple up if there's a need - I'd like to have more than one for most, if not all, the teams out there. If anybody has any suggestions, post in this thread or you can PM me. If you want to take one of the teams, post it in here or PM me and I'll update the list. 2. What would the interest level be for another mock draft? I could start one up here in the next few days if the interest is there to do it again.
  3. Interesting post-combine draft rumors. Some nuggets:
  4. That's assuming that all teams have big division leads and can hold them. It can also be seen as a little more opportunity for a team that has a hot start to fall back to the pack. For example, in a 16 game schedule, a team that starts 12-0 and its nearest competition is 8-4 will have ample reason to rest its starters - since it'd take the other team to run the table to catch up. However, with 6 games remaining in the new format, that 12-0 team will potentially have meaningful games for longer - especially if that undefeated team starts to cool off late in the year. Even if you're right, worst case scenario is we get a couple of preseason-esque games a week (in those extra weeks) while having a number of other good, competitive games between teams' starters. In a 16 game format, we're guaranteed to have every game those two weeks be crappy preseason games. An 18 game format is still better even if you're right and a bunch of teams start playing backups.
  5. Why would the bad teams rest their good players? They'd do like they do now and play their good players to try to get as good a record as they could. Also, why will more good teams rest their good players simply because there are more games? A few good teams already rest a lot of their good players in the final two weeks anyway and that should be decreased some (in a 16 or 18 game schedule) by having divisional games those weeks. I just don't see where there's going to be a drastic change for the worse.
  6. I love the 18 game idea for basically the reasons CCP has outlined. More (non-preseason) football is a good thing.
  7. It seemed like most people quit around midseason for some reason, but I didn't get why. I'd be all for continuing if enough people are interested and will keep it up.
  8. Assuming Peterson and Von Miller aren't there at 8 (very, very safe assumption), my top two hopefuls are Robert Quinn and Prince. A CB group of Finnegan/Prince/ATV would be really good to go along with Hope and Griffin. Having Derrick Morgan and Robert Quinn rushing off the edge would be pretty awesome as well.
  9. He has the Titans taking Patrick Peterson at 8. No way he falls that far, but I cannot express how happy I'd be on draft day if the Titans got Peterson. So they're completely giving up on Claussen already? A lot of media types are down on Clausen because he wasn't good last year and he's apparently a jerk. I want to see him with some talent around him (more than an aging Steve Smith and a declining running game) before I write him off. The Panthers' GM did say QB is the team's clear #1 need, however, so they may have written Clausen off.
  10. NFP mock draft part 2: He has the Titans taking Patrick Peterson at 8. No way he falls that far, but I cannot express how happy I'd be on draft day if the Titans got Peterson.
  11. Haha, I'd rather see Florida or Alabama hammered, but USC/Kiffin would work fine for me.
  12. I could easily be wrong on this, but I generally take that term as top 10-12 historically who is also still in that group now - i.e. USC, OU, Nebraska, Florida, Alabama, etc. Of course, Oregon doesn't fit that profile and they're a top possibility, so who knows.
  13. Colin Cowherd has jumped on this "major violation by major program" story: The Oregonian's John Canzano says it's not Oregon.
  14. Wes Bunting has him as the 25th rated CB in the draft - prior to his Combine workout, however. Apparently his official time was slower (I originally thought the 4.29 was his official time as it was the only one being reported even after other official times had come out), however. He's still a guy I'd be pretty interested in the Titans looking at late in the draft to develop behind Chris Hope and Michael Griffin.
  15. UTCs Buster Skrine ran a 4.29 40 today - the fastest of the combine. Amazingly, that's still 5/100ths of a second slower than CJ ran (4.24). Any thoughts on where Skrine might go? A safety that fast is really intriguing.
  16. That was my first thought. Though the NCAA should hand down a sanction just for their new floor of the basketball court. I've been known to have bad taste in what a good field is (I still love the smurf turf and EWU's red turf), but I find Oregon's floor pretty cool. That could change if I watched an entire game played on that floor, though.
  17. Isn't HBO or somebody doing a story on Bond' tapes or something like that? If so, that's another angle Bond and Moore could be pumping up.
  18. Yeah, good chance of that happening. Miller was realistic at 8 earlier in the offseason, but it's quickly becoming a pipe dream.
  19. I'd love if he dropped to 8 and the Titans went with a Miller/Kaepernick (or Ponder) duo. I'm wondering if Von will drop that low, though.
  20. I didn't think he looked bad, just inconsistent. He'd make a few really nice throws and then follow them up with some poor ones. I was hoping for a little better from him throwing the ball, but I liked the 40 time.
  21. I'm not a big fan of using lineup position stats - too small a sample size most of the time. I wouldn't argue against Castro 1 and Fuku 2, but I'm not the biggest fan of Castro at the top of the order anyway due to questions about his OBP this early in his career. Ideally, we put Kosuke 1 and Soto 2, but that's not happening. Kosuke Soto Aramis Pena Byrd Soriano Castro DeWitt P If Soto's not going to the top of the order (he's not), then Castro's the next best option.
  22. Like I said, I'm not disagreeing. Just curious as to his reasoning.
  23. Yeah, his numnbers weren't too hot there last year, but he only started 47 games there last year. He's still got a career .355 OBP there over his three years with the Cubs. Personally, I'd be happy with him hitting 1st or 2nd I'd go Castro/Fuku/Pena/Aram/Soto/Soriano/Byrd/DeWitt myself Not necessarily disagreeing with you, but why Castro ahead of Fuku?
  24. I tend to agree with this. On the Tennessee part of the rumors - while it wouldn't surprise me in the least (I kind of expect it) to find out that Lane was offering up cash for players, offering for Cam would be odd. It took Lane a while to even offer a scholarship to Cam and he was very skeptical about whether Cam would fit his system or not. It seems like quite a jump to go from questioning whether you should even offer a scholarship all the way to offering 200k in cash for the player. Again, though, it wouldn't stun me if true.
