http://www.baseball-almanac.com/players/pics/brooks_kieschnick_autograph.jpg His was the first Cubs jersey I owned, because I fell into the belief that he would be the next big star on the North Side. Technically his retirement makes this thread belong in transactions, but now that he is retired, I thought I would spark some discussion on what went wrong with his career. I remember seeing him in the CWS for Texas, pitching in the 90s in the 9th inning of games, while smacking HR after HR as their DH. He would have made an awesome mid-rotation guy, but the Cubs decided he was going to be the heir apparent to Dawson and subsequently made him a right fielder. Obviously that fizzled, and he was let go by the club (if I recall correctly). I know he was a Devil Ray DH and pitched for the Brewers. He officially retires as a Baltimore Oriole. I can only wonder "what could have been" had the Cubs been smart enough to keep him a SP. Good luck in retirement, Brooks, and I still have your jersey. :)
