    100 plus incentives. Like I said if he wins the NL Gold Glove, Silver Slugger, is the World Series MVP, the NL MVP, and has 500 PA, every year, for 6 years, that's a ton of bonus money. I think you meant 100 including incentives. If it was plus, it would be $100M+, which is even more insane. Levine said, even if he never reached incentives, it'd be 5/65 or so... and that's not going to happen either. He said both the Braves and Cubs were leaning in the direction of a 4-year deal for Furcal.

    Bruce Levine discounted the Furcal for $100M 'rumor', but said the trade with Texas is something "the Cubs would do" and would be a "positive" move, with the exception of Soriano's defensive liability. Levine is on ESPN1000AM right now co-hosting a show called Baseball 365.

    Wow! A real rumor?! Wow... just wow. I've never heard of such of thing! ;) What else am I supossed to call it? I think what he means is that nothing about a rumor is 'real'. Until a rumor is confirmed or denied, it's just a leak or someone's imagination. Correct. Anyone could start a rumor, regardless of the level of absurdity... it's still a "real rumor".

    The video is not on Cubs.com, nor ESPN.com If you have cable... press conferences are usually on Comcast Sports Net, CLTV, or ESPNews. Also interesting... when he took a picture with his new #47 jersey, it was a home jersey with "EYRE" on it. Could they be going back to names on the home pinstripes?

    Apparently, the horse isn't dead yet, so we must continue to beat it. The majority here are not complaining of the move itself, but the dollars and years it will take ~ on top of just signing Eyre to a similar deal ~ when there are many moves on offense to be made/addressed.

    Which reliever are you referring to? Eyre, whose contract is 2 yrs + option year, or the pending Howry deal? Specifically Eyre(see underlined), but it applies to both. Eyre has a player option, there's no way in the world he's going to turn that down. Howry's discussed deal has been for 3 years as well. D'oh! Didn't see the underlined. #-o

    Define "implosion." If Dempster just su-ks, but converts 80% of his saves because that's what happens, and Baker keeps trotting him out there to "protect" three-run leads, are we better off? Converting just 1-2 of his first 10 save opportunities would be an implosion, imho.

    Right, and we found out Eyre's contract has a bonus if he becomes the closer. However at the start of '06, that shouldn't even be a factor, injuries notwithstanding.
