  1. And I agreed with that point from BBB, but if it came down to trading McCarthy or trading for Tejada, I'd rather have McCarthy, Uribe, and prospects. McCarthy will be something special.
  2. If true, the White Sox would be dumb to trade McCarthy and better off trading off Garland. I wouldn't call it dumb. The Orioles aren't going to want Garland for Tejada. They'll want McCarthy. McCarthy would be off limits in almost any trade, they have 5 pitchers all past the point of FA or when the arbitration system favors the owners, McCarthy is currently the 6th and is ready to step up in a rotation. I would not trade McCarthy in that deal, if it take more prospect(s) to include Garland over McCarthy, so be it. You include McCarthy or Garland, any surplus offer by the Cubs will not be likely to beat it.

  4. The FSL and the SL are very pitcher friendly, while the MWL is neutral and the PCL is very hitter friendly.
  5. What is your opinion based on? Ethier slaughtered AA pitching in his first go round and continued to mash in the fall league. Pinto on the other hand was in his second tour of Duty in AA and showed last year he was unable to handle AAA batters. Ethier takes walks and hits for power at a league appropriate age. The same level and the same age at which Pinto put up great numbers as a pitcher. (Technically, Pinto is a few months younger than Ethier and put up similarly good numbers in 2004.) Yes, Pinto stuggled in his brief AAA callups, but the fact remains he's had just as much success at as high a level as Ethier has managed to reach all at a younger age. Ethier only managed a .686 OPS in his AAA callup, but that doesn't mean I'd write off his success at lower levels based on 17 PA just as I wouldn't write off Pinto because of his struggles in 30 AAA innings. Ethier projects to be a poor man's version of Murton (from the LH side), his power was increased due to the Texas League, if you put him in the SL, his power would've dropped. I don't think he's anything special, plus he's behind Putnam and Herrera as far as Oak. OF prospects. I'd rank Pinto higher as well.
  6. How much say does Chuck actually have in the Cubs front office? If they sign him, I assume not enough.
  7. You get someone like Tejada and I could see the possibility of having Patterson hitting 8th since most of the remaining resources would have been allocated towards Tejada, but you can't have the potential of that much dead weight in the line-up.
  8. Personally, they'd be better off flipping Garland and prospects off to Philly to Abreu. Drain their farm system, but it would be a hell of an improvement.
  9. You worry every off-season, if you feel the Cubs value certain things higher and lower than you. I'm not surprised by the Jones pursuit simply b/c of that and previous interest, of course.
  10. This is a hitter with a career .258 EqA and over the last two seasons has pulled off two adj. OPS of .717 and .736. We need Chuck to tell Hendry how medicore and overpaid Jones will become if the Cubs signed him. :) No thanks.
  11. It shows how little the lines are drawn in the sand as far as stats vs. tools in the great debate. The White Sox are known for being one of the more toolsy teams, yet, this article shows a statistical side of the equation. If you looked at Oakland, Clev., Tor., etc you'd find plenty of OFPs and basic scouting reports and weighted heavily by those organizations. Each team uses both... (even the Cubs)
  12. Oddly in a Dallas newspaper, they mentioned that Morris narrowed his choices down to SF and STL. I'll still despise him, just less frequent as before.
  13. Screw you... :)
  14. Hey, that's my pick! Get your own.... I bet you haven't partied with him. :P Oh....I don't want another Kyle Farnsworth, you can have him. :) Haha, awesome. Let's just say you don't want Leinart then. EDIT: Don't forget Orton. Seriously, I think he'll be gone between 14-18 in the draft. If the Bears draft a TE it'll have to be like Pope from UGA or that one from Maryland.

  17. Clark is terrible blocker and has dropped too many passes and has been unable to break free from the LBs in coverage.
  18. It's not one or the other: The problem with the Bears inability to throw the ball is a combo of several things... Lack of TE Lack of WRs Orton Turner Throw 'em in a blender and you have a horrible passing game. I do like Moose and Desmond Clark. They can use a definite reliable playmaker. You need more than Moose and Clark has been a bust.
  19. Why call a pitch? The element is surprise isn't worth trying when you run the clock down.

  21. Nobody gets it because it's not true. I disagree. How often does Turner call a deep post or fly? Or a crossing pattern? Most of the time it's a sideline fade, or a quick slant. I think Raisin is saying it's not true, b/c everyone in here knows that Turner has not allowed Orton to throw the ball deep.
  22. Yeah, b/c no one here has complained about Turner? Actually, many have complained about the conservative nature of this offense.
  23. I guess we'll see Orton next week. :)
  24. It hasn't been all of his fault, Turner has been crap all season.
  25. Tackling, shedding blockers, and getting in your gaps is all about effort.
