  1. Corey needs to take BP with a batting glove under his front armpit and watch pitchers from the delivery to hitting the catcher's glove. If Wilkerson is avail., I'd hope the Cubs would at least inquire about him. I still think Texas would trade Mench before Wilkerson.
  2. I was impressed from what I seen from Guzman in one of his starts with Peoria. If they send him to AA, I'd iimagine, he'd be able to handle it well. I still think the majority of his mechanical problems are from a lack of a follow-thru, he puts too much strain on the rotator cuff by cutting his pitches short.
  3. Cedeno would be at SS, Neifi is a terrible option for a starting position player and the Cubs have to trust Hairston as a starting option.
  4. Oddly, if the Cubs traded Walker they would be added to the list of teams needing a 2B. Unless, Neifi is your answer or you assume they're trading for a SS.
  5. I don't think the reason they declined Burnitz's option was financially based. If he had a more productive '05, it would've been a much tougher decision whether or not accept the option. His medicore '05 season just sealed the deal. If Hendry held Jenkins' value at a higher rate than Burnitz, I wouldn't put it out of the realm of possibility. But, I haven't heard anything in regards to him being avail. or the Cubs being interested
  6. How were those absolutes delevoped? Is there any good reading on this subject? Recently it was developed thru biomechanics, Dr. House (not on Fox) helped revolutionize mechanics thru use of computers as far as minimizing fatigue/damage. It's all progressionary, mechanics have changed throughout the history of baseball, they've had to. Personally, mechanics are just the final stage of a process that starts back with training. The best line ever used when judging a pitcher and his mechanics is that "you are only as strong as your weakest link". The Pitching Edge by Tom House is a great book.
  7. There are absolutes to pitching mechanics, similar to hitting stances, there can be variation, but it still has to fall back to those absolutes. Balance/Center of gravity, flex T of the elbows, complete follow-thru, etc.
  8. Burnitz should give thanks to Coors for his '04 season. But, over the last 3 years Burnitz has avg'd an OPS+ of 105 and Jenkins has avg'd an OPS+ of 126. With EqA... Jenkins over the last 3 years-.291 Burnitz over the last 3 years-.267 That's a huge difference.
  9. If it's between Reyes and Rueter, I can't believe it would actually be a competition.
  10. There usually has to be something to work with there to revive. Woody has nothing, his FB has gone from avg. to bad and he doesn't have enough deception between his FB and his best pitch (change-up). He's Doug Davis w/out talent. There has to be better NRIs out there, but the glamour of playing for your hometown might just be enough to sway Rueter and his "numerous" options to give it a shot w/STL.
  11. The blanket statement was they need somone to platoon Green with no names mentioned.. Ideally, someone like Mench or sanders would be great but, Texas will set his value as a starting corner OF'er as what is to be looked for in return and Sanders will be looking to start as well. Byrd and Kelton, would be ideal, but does Kelton or Byrd merit a ML role at this stage? I would say no, and it would be better to get a more proven commodity who has versatility and has lefties well enough to merit starting against them over the other half of the platoon. Of course, I think Baker would see Conine as a bench player 1st and you happen to think he'd use him over Murton too often, which I disagree with.
  12. Compared to Green or on a separate stage? How many resources would they have to get someone like Green and Bradley/Kotsay? As far as comparing Green to Bradley/Kotsay? Good question, depends on what is req'd to get them.
  13. Then who? I fail to see a point in making a blanket statement with no viable productive options. The only other potential option is Marrero. Hidalgo isn't productive enough and the rest are looking for starting jobs.
  14. Holding your breath would be unwise considering the avail. options. Idealism doesn't mesh well w/limited resources.
  15. I doubt that, i don't see how you want a platoon and someone mentions a viable option and you cast it off. How can you want someone decent and then expect him to start over Murton?
  16. Since I like quoting myself, Pitt. likely has Wilson slated as their starting Rf'er since they missed out on Mueller which restricts Pitt. as far as shifting players.
  17. Well, maybe not 100 times, but he's start 50 games easily. Which is around 30% of the time, almost that of a natural R/L platoon like the one he would have w/Green.
  18. What about Conine? You have a platoon of Green and Conine, you get the productive platoon and the versatility of a player able to play both LF and RF as well as the IF. The bench probably looks like... Conine Patterson Perez Mabry Blanco Hairston Craig Wilson. Will Pitt. non-tender him and what his trade value?
  19. What about Conine? Conine would start 100 games on this team. Didn't he sign already? Looking at splits he doesn't hit lefties all that well either. I doubt Baker would start him over Murton. Nope, he's still a FA according to ESPN.
  20. What about Conine? You have a platoon of Green and Conine, you get the productive platoon and the versatility of a player able to play both LF and RF as well as the IF. The bench probably looks like... Conine Patterson Perez Mabry Blanco Hairston
  21. If true and assuming the Cubs don't overpay for him as far as players given up, he's a better option than the recent names mentioned. You know what you'll get from him and he can be a decent 5th hitter in the order.
  22. There's a big enough difference in numbers to merit bringing in Sanders over Burnitz. WHERE??? Burnitz has an OPS + 105 over the last 3 years, Sanders has an OPS of 121. Also, over the last 3 years Sanders has an EqA of .289 and Burnitz has a .268. That's a huge difference in production.
  23. There's a big enough difference in numbers to merit bringing in Sanders over Burnitz.
  24. I would rather see Huff or Sanders over Jones or Wilson. Of course, you have to trade for Huff and sign Sanders to a multi-year deal ala Jones. Personally, I don't think there would much of a drop offensively between Grieve and someone like Jones and Wilson, defensively Wilson and Jones are much better.
  25. The Cards and Cubs are not at their spending limits of a year ago.
