  1. There are teams that have basically implied they will not draft a HS pitcher or C b/c of the higher risk. So, when there's a C like Salty in ATL's minor league system or a high school pitcher like Beckett, they would pass them up? There will always be successful HS pitchers and catchers & under that premise any elimination based on risk while overlooking their OFP is bad baseball. I'd like to see a team have faith in their scouting and player development, watching teams never draft a HS pitcher or C, gives me a signal that a team doesn't have the same faith as a team like the Braves do.
  2. More interesting b/c Schuerholz has more of a bland personality during interviews compared to Beane. I think he expanded more than general GM speak compared to Schuerholz as well.
  3. To me the bolded part is where the Cubs have to invest more in. I don't know if it is dollars or people or both. I was speaking in terms of drafting HS pitchers, some advocate staying away from HS pitchers especially early on in the draft, it's a thought process I've always frowned upon. I consider Beane to be part of it still, but he mentions the value he could get from drafting them, which is showing a trend towards more and more collegiate players. why do you frown upon risk management? This is simply a numbers game. High school pitchers have a huge risk associated with them. You can frown on it if you want, but the numbers are there and they don't lie. It's not risk management when you eliminate an entire sector. The concept of drawing a line in the sand, isn't a correct one. You can't say we'll never draft a HS pitcher, it's stupid to eliminate the best player based on the increased potential of lack of faith in your development program.
  4. I think Bradley, Mushin, and Berrian are worth keeping. Berlin, Currier and Gage are all expendable and all are similar except for Berlin who is a pure possession WR. If they need a CB, I think they should go after him in the 4th.
  5. Part III and final installment of the interview... http://www.athleticsnation.com/story/2006/1/16/125218/977
  6. Which LTs do you see slipping to round 2? Whitworth or Colledge, there will be a good T when the Bears draft in the 2nd.
  7. I would have no problem if take Pope in the 1st round, if Davis and Lewis are gone. I think they can get a future LT in the second rd., something that is very rare.
  8. What if I liked Davis over Pope and Lewis? :) This draft is setting up to have more depth at OT than OG.
  9. http://www.baseball-almanac.com/articles/best_major_league_teams_ever.shtml Interesting article.
  10. They aren't going to do much via FA 21 of the 22 starters are under contract next year, work on locking up some players. Their needs via FA or draft... TE OL depth WR 3rd DB K FB return specialist/special teams
  11. Best player in the area since Honel. He's rare for this area, curious to see if uses a curve or slider and how well his change develops. He's got some adjustments to make, but he has evrything you want. For a player that would be a collegiate freshman, he's more like a collegiate junior.
  12. Also, I'd like to see them use a late round/FA pick on WR Adam Jennings of Fresno St. He's one of the best returners in the country and will be around late or not get drafted and is great on all aspects of special teams.
  13. I don't agree with that. You are basically saying the Bears need a short, quick WR. I personally like the big bodies. Wish they used their size better. But there aren't a lot of Steve Smith, Santana Moss type WRs. I think it is a different style of WR, they're out there. I like Santana's younger brother as far as being a potential smaller quick type WR. Bigger bodies like Gage are great, if you know how to use them. Moose knows how to use his body and great route running, players like Berrian and Bradley have great speed, but lack quickness. I want a WR with quickness.
  14. I wouldn't spend much in FA, but I would draft a WR probably in the 3rd rd. Probably more of a change of pace type WR, they seem to have all long/lean WR with speed based on longer strides rather than quickness. A WR with the skill set more in the mold of Santana Moss rather than Randy Moss, might be a nice compliment to Moose.
  15. Hopefully, within the next couple of days there will be some reports. I can try and find out.
  16. They might not get a TD off an INT, but they'll double him, unlike the Bears.
  17. I think Berrian is a solid #3 WR on a team with good WRs, he still has to prove he can be a #2 WR despite the good game yesterday. With Bradley, he's coming a devastating knee injury, his game was speed and he has prove he has the same speed coming off that injury.
  18. If addressed to me... When have I said that Hendry and Baker were idiots? I question their moves and approach to the game, I've also complimented them when I feel they've done something right. I took that statement at face value. Everything I've ever said about Hendry and Baker has been justified.
  19. I'm saying that I would much rather have an OC that is willing to run the ball alot than one that is not. I don't think that Martz is that good of a game caller. I think Rex would be perfect for an offense geared around deep slants and Jones would be better in a Marshall Faulk type role rather than a power runner. This is offense is a WR and TE away from being geared for an aggressive style offense rather than a power running team. If they can get more points and yards passing than running, I'm all for it.
  20. So, you're saying Turner is a better OC than Martz was with the Rams?
  21. Btw, am I only one upset that Martz wasn't avail. for OC last year?
  22. You keep the defense, depending on Azumah's injury, you decide to go after a 3rd CB. Offensively, you get a 2nd WR thru FA or draft as well as TE. Personally, I'd rather see them add a TE thru draft. They also need to add depth on the O-Line. The Panthers spanked them, give them credit. They can still run the Cover 2 and shade more towards Smith as well as Thompson on Smith, regardless if he is in slot or not. Rivera and Turner had poor games.
  23. I'd be content with some kind of rhythm on offense.
  24. If you can't double team on a blitz, don't blitz. They beat Carolina with 4 rushers, to stop Smith, they'll have to do it again.
