  1. Nice to finally upgrade a position and not have to trade for them and/or overpay them. Let Pie start as well, while they're at it.
  2. It wasn't Z, it was an off Ted Lilly. They didn't get enough to win. The offense had a chance to step up and try and keep them in the game vs. a bad pitcher and couldn't b/c the 3 best hitters were as bad as Lilly was.
  3. We got 4 runs off of Davis, that should have been enough. Lilly crapped the bed. Lilly sucked, it doesn't change the fact the Cubs had a piss poor approach and should've did more against a pitcher with the stuff Davis had last night.
  4. Davis is diff., with Davis you try and get him to rely on the FB and be able to get to counts where he can throw his change and curve, he jam the Cubs hitters on strike one and then they would swing at pitches out of the zone. Davis isn't going to get fatigued like Hernandez, unlike Davis, you can hit Livan when you're down in the count. Davis doesn't throw many strikes, Livan will.
  5. The key to Hernandez is working the count, while he is a workhouse as far as game started, his velo and ability to remain effective after the 4th. They're going to have to make him so they're thru the order by the 3rd, so the heart of the order can get to him a 2nd time thru and hopefully over 60 pitches in the 4th. Combined with the drop in velo, he also loses the break on his curve.
  6. If improving pitching reduces the chance of improving the offense, I'd pass. Unless they trade one of the current pitchers for a bat, I wouldn't touch it, unless something became almost too good to be true, NRI stepping up big in Mesa, or a healthy Prior.
  7. Doubtful Doubtful Similar to now, at least to start. Doubtful Probably Probably I would hope someone like Renteria or a middle of the bat in RF. Doutbful
  8. Turnovers killed them last night, against good teams like USC, they almost have to play perfect to win. The fumble, INT on the opp. 1 yd. line, and lateral did them in.
  9. The Cubs have been a good FB hitting team, his did what most successful pitchers do against the Cubs, change speeds and location. He was throwing 83-86 and jamming Cubs hitters on cutters, and then getting him out in on changeups and curves. They were tight, Davis mixed up his pitches well enough make them become guess hitters. This series has exposed the reason why the Cubs are not more than an avg. offense this year, they need another middle of the order hitter. When you're #5 hitter is either Floyd or Murton, you better get someone else, yes Soriano is there but he'll be at the top until proven otherwise.
  10. That last drive was very frustrating, UK has shot themselves in the foot.
  11. Well, USC gets a turnover and turns it into a TD. 7-0 USC.
  12. UK creates a turnover as USC is about to score. Still 0-0 Uk on their own 20..
  13. UK vs. [expletive] bout to start. Erin Andrews sporting the UK umbrella. Bad weather favors USC
  14. The keys for tonight game... Lilly-maintain a sharp break on the curve, last outing vs. Cincy, he didn't have the same release point. Keep them off balance by mixing in the cutter/slider and work up and down w/the FB up and hammer low. Davis-get him into FB counts, don't allow him to chnage speeds and get the Cubs hitters out in front on the change. He gets hitters out by deception and location, my key will be the ratio of opp. field hits to ground outs at SS. I thought it was best to hit Webb early, I think the opposite for Davis, get him into FB counts.
  15. I love watching him pitch, but I want to smack that smirk off his face. :)
  16. He has 1 plus pitch - his sinker. He's got a token curve against RH'ers, I expect one of his 1st pitches to Alf to be one. He'll throw a split/change to LH'ers too. A hitter's goal should not be to fall behind in the count against him, that means attacking a 1st strike and not swinging at a pitch out of the zone either. They should try and make him work, put runners in motion, try and push bunt for a hit with Theriot. If you have a sinkerballer, open some holes by hit and runs.g
  17. Low ball pitcher who requires a lot of patience. I'm predicting Soriano and DeRo have a good night. There's going out on a limb if I've ever seen it. Here's hoping you're right! If you're patient with Webb, you'll be down in the count and grounding out on sinkers well below the knees. He gets ahead to get you out early. Trying to wear him down or work the count doesn't work against him.
  18. Beckett can throw all FBs from here on out, tell them it's a FB, and where it's going and pitch a shutout.
  19. As I said with Pitt. and Houston, I hope it isn't Logan White.
  20. The best prices I seen downtown is 249 per night at the Palmer House Hilton, which is a steal for current rates. The best prices via public transportation is by O"hare, 3 star hotels for 119, 4 stars for 179. Which would be take the blue line to a transfer stop to the red line to addison.
  21. Do you have to stay around wrigley? Take the EL near OHare and get 4 star hotels for what they are getting 2 star hotel around downtown. I looked downtown at prices, that's freaking nuts.
  22. http://www.bizjournals.com/phoenix/stories/2007/10/01/daily24.html?ana=from_rss Be careful...
  23. Lou did a great job putting together this 25 man roster, this is actually how I had it on Monday. Although, I'd start Marquis in game 4.
  24. My line-up: Soriano Floyd Lee Ramirez Derosa Soto Jones Theriot (if his back is better)/Cedeno Z Lou's likely: Soriano Theriot Lee Floyd Ramirez Derosa Jones Kendall Z
  25. I'd like to see the Cubs develop one position player that has/had a high ceiling. Right now, Pie is the guy I'd like to see them develop.
