  1. Hmm... that's funny. Doesn't say that here, nor did it when I first looked and didn't get it. Wonder if there's cache issues w/ wikipedia?
  2. Doesn't that just ring of Todd Walker?
  3. DeRosa has upped his BA 21 points in the last 10 games. Mench has not. That combined with a +60point differential in OBP and Mench coming off an injury = Buck Showalter riding the hot hand. If this was Baker though it would be because DeRosa's a 2B, and has 8 years in the league dude.
  4. Wood, agree to an extension w/ TX, and waive the NTC, for Mench? Or we add cash and ask for a prospect back as well?
  5. Before I clicked on the thread, my response was going to be "Let's count how many times he says 'dude'" That drinking game is highly intoxicating.... especially for this early in the day.
  6. But would Corey the cubbie have missed it? with one of those wild flailing swings that spun him around twice in the batter's box? We then would have demanded his trade. Gotten a box fan in return. And put it in CF. Where it would have an OBP of .350 this season. Oh, how hindsight is 20/20....
  7. Found this link today. Very similar to the IHateAmericanIdol.com's attempts to get the dorkiest person(s) voted into the finals of AI. The Unrestricted View blog is attempting to get Neifi Perez and Juan Castro voted in as the starting SS for the ASG. Mostly in protest to the fans voting in players that don't deserve to be there (aka Giambi a couple years ago, Nomar of late, etc). Not that I actually want him to be there. But his fan election is the ONLY thing that can justify that contract and get Dusty his extension. So, in the name of politics, vote early, and vote often.
  8. I had a total of 4 on Monday bringing me to (by my calcs) 112. 2 of those are in truffle's updated list. my math off...?
  9. Personally, I would wait until the offseason to trade Murton, if at all. If Pie doesn't progress enough at AAA, working with Von Joshua, to be an instant success (read: non-failure), I don't want him up here in CF, at the start of next year. If he's focused, gets the K/BB ratio better, sure, bring him up. And depending on who you get in LF, you can trade Murton or platoon him in right. If Pie doesn't progress as I desire, then you're looking at (potentially) Jones in CF, and having to find a RF and a LF.
  10. You mean why he has a black eye? The Marlins announcers said he got into a fight with a teammate. They said who, but I forgot. Yeah, Randy Messenger. I'm guessing its some sort of racial slur, or yelling at one another for sucking. Glad he listened when people said not to kill the messenger..
  11. Mike Piazza was a 62nd round pick, and the only reason Lasorda took him was as a favor to Piazza's relative (I forget which one exactly). Why can't we catch that? Maybe because....Piazza is the exception and not the rule. Name another player from rds 45-60 who is likely going to the HOF? Heck name another from rds 45-60, who is EVEN playing in the majors? Well, since 1998 the MLB has limited the draft to 50 rounds, that limits a lot of "current" players who were in the 45-60 range. Yes Mike Piazza is an exception to the trend. But so are Keith Hernandez (rd 42 1971), Kenny Rogers (rd 39, 1982), Jeff Conine (rd 58, 1987), Isringhausen (rd 44, 1991), and Mark Buehrle (rd 37, 1998). And just as an aside, Scott Seabol, who was on the 2001 Yankees AL-Champions, was an 88th round pick. I drew my line in the sand at rd 35, because no matter where you draw it, it's rather arbitrary. These guys are exceptions. But looking at draft histories, the success of 1st rounders while becoming more commonly contributors in the Majors, success isn't a guarantee at all. Many of them never make it at all.
  12. Those are 3 very key stats into how this next offseason could go. I see Hendry trying to sign guys who may K a LOT, but should give him the expectation of 2 HRs (total) for the game. And by gosh, they're gonna be great defenders. We'll sign all the defensive gurus! Make the other team commit errors by default. Oh yeah, and lobby Selig that we only have games on Monday.
  13. I have a feeling even off days can score more runs than we can.... My prediction: Off Day 4 Cubs 0 No Cub even reaches second base. At least, that's how my wife puts it, if she were a Cub wife....
  14. I didn't think he was making it sound like smoke and mirrors. I think he was expressing frustration that the team is not as good as many "experts" claim on paper, yet day in, and day out they go out, play good fundamental baseball, get on base, drive in runs, and hold their opponents when they need to. To those of us following this team, that's incredibly frustrating. We're nowhere near as good as many "experts" claim on paper. And we're not executing. At all. St. Louis is still a good team. But some of the players respected on paper as "really, really good" aren't as good (now) as the experts claim, but in their prime might have been. Some are better (read: Pujols) because there aren't words good enough to describe his play.
  15. Wow... 27 runs scored in the last 10 games? What's that like. Oh wait, nm, 9 of those were in 2 games against us. I know what that's like. Still 18 in 8 games. Better than us.
  16. Don't we have 8 or 9 of those in our lineup daily anymore?
  17. You do realize these guys are only 5.76% of the way through their contracts? But can they hit lefties? Righties? a ball out of the infield? Does anyone remember Hawkins? Don't tell me anybody here actually thought that guy was good. We needed to fix the bullpen. The Cubs would have single digit wins if Hawkins and Remlinger were in place of Howry and Eyre. if hawkins was still here, the padres would have won in the 8th and there would be complaining about how hendry hasn't fixed the pen. man can't win. I'm not trying to Hendry bash... because this team shouldn't be THIS inept. More that I'm seraching for someone, anyone, Bueller... to hit the daggone ball.
  18. But do we need another 2B/OF (haha) on Boise's team?
  19. Ok, now let's bunt him over to 3rd....
  20. You do realize these guys are only 5.76% of the way through their contracts? But can they hit lefties? Righties? a ball out of the infield?
  21. I was in favor of those. I just thought we'd sign a RF, a CF, and maybe a SS too. Dunno, what are their splits against Lefties? Maybe they can platoon in RF?
  22. Make that 5 career walks for Neifi against Park....
  23. Park is 8-4 lifetime against the CUBS. That doesn't make me feel any better. That being said how many times has he pitched to these guys whom are on this team now? Probably not much. 24. And if that's what it takes for him to have an outing like this, I'll take it.
  25. He said he feels about 60% right now. He messed up his back. Yeah, Pujols hurts his back and Lee cracks his wrist carrying teams. Not that Albert's solely carrying that team. But it sure seems Lee was here. Whereas we've had Prior injure his shoulder carrying our simulated team, and then get food poisoning from tainted simulated gatorade. For your sake, here's to hoping Albie doesn't miss much time. For ours, here's a couple of simulated Wood fastballs to the back. :P
