What's the consensus of the Reds' OF situation? Specifically, if (one of the following) Pena or Griffey or Kearns are traded, does that mean that Dunn won't? That I dont know. You would think by living in the Cincy area, I wouls hear stuff, but I dont. No one here actually likes the Reds.... Everything I get is from reading, so most of that is just other people's speculation. Just enough accuracy involved to in their specs to cause some drama, I know.

Well, in the link to the Reds blog posted a few pages back, it stated that Cruz is starting in right. And the people at Redszone seem to think Kearns being called up means a trade is imminent, but they think Wily Mo is gone. (although some have speculated Jr could be gone and Wily Mo will shift into center--only in Cincy could they think the worst fielding right fielder in baseball is the best choice for center... :roll: ). Whatever is or isnt happening, I do find it strange that now they decide to recall Kearns when they hae had plenty of chances before and left him in AAA--even when he was hitting well. The timing is odd, but DanO and logic have never been friendly companions.

What would you accept for a player of Aramis Ramirez's value? That's pretty close to what Dunn is. Please don't compare Dunn with his .240 BA, horrible defense, and 8 trillion strikeouts with Ramirez. With all of these outrageous proposals (and demands from the other side), I'd rather try to get Kearns. As Kaspar & Brenley said, with Dunn it's either a HR, K, or a walk. What makes you say Dunn has horrible defense? Because he's big? Almost every advances statistical measure puts Dunn ahead of Aramis. I think it's a very fair comparison. I know you harbor some serious man-love for Dunn :lol: , but of all the things that Dunn does well, defense is not one of them. The only reason he doesn't seem as bad as he is is Wily Mo Pena is about 1000 times worse. I can see tons of reasons to acquire Dunn and ways in which he can help this team--defense is not among those.

You're right, IMO. Some of Hendry's fisrt comments were to point out and reinforce that Gerut could play center. Add in that the orginaztion is unhappy with Hairston and Patterson, and you have some motivation. I for one think we have seen the last of Patterson as a Cub, and possibly Hairston. Since Hairston is even less of a natural OF than Gerut, it is not outside the realm of possibility that Jody may even end up the everyday CF before all is said and done. I think you very well be on to something. I cannot get out of my head Hendry making the playing center comment. And if anyone was watching the Yankees game last night, the idea that Patterson and Hairston could be gone soon is even more logical. Bernie is the epitome of butcher in center. They are so desperate for defense at that position and despite what a few here think, Patterson is a darn good fielder. Now, any trade with Yanks is almost certainly gonna include Cano, because, well, they have nothing--which would make sense then sending them Hairston. Now, the cubs dont really have a place for Cano but other teams certainly may and he could be (along with pitching, of course), the key to getting Dunn, or Huff, or someone no one is even speculating on. Overthinking? Maybe. Too hopeful? Probably. But I just cannot fathom this move being made without something else happening.

I am curious about something...I know Dunn is a major object of lust to a majority here, so I was wondering what people think if this situation were to arise: (Note: I am not necessarily advocating this...I am just wondering what kind of revolt would go down here if this came to pass) We all know the price of Dunn will be fairly exhorbatant. Would people be willing to take on Griffey and his contract in order to pry Dunn away as well? Obviously, this would include shipping Corey back to them (along with pitching, duh). But by taking on that much extra money, the Reds may not require the Cubs to fork over as many prospects or at least as many primo prospects. Now, whether or not Cincy would do this is purely speculation, but DanO isnt exactly the sharpest tool in the shed. I am more curious as to whether anyone would take this on. If the Reds are really interested in dumping some money along with garnering some good pitching, it makes sense on their part. And the Cubs are one of the few teams to take on the money AND offer the pitching they so desperately need. It could be what would make sending Dunn to Chicago more enticing than elsewhere. In all, what I am asking is....would it be worth it take Griffey and his contract if it meant: 1. getting Dunn 2. Keeping dunn out of Houston or St. Louis (I know there are also issues of payroll in the future and how much money this could tie up, but I am totally ignoring that all now, because, dammit, I want the Cubs to win...lol)
