  1. Oh, I hope the weather will hold...
  2. Please get your second RBI, Murton. Why do I find such satisfaction in chasing Dontrelle Willis? :D
  3. Devil's advocate here: given that (1) our top two have spent considerable time on the DL at the same time the past two seasons, and (2) our staff has a spotty offense to get them RUNS for a W, there could be worse options. A few bats with decent D and far better OPS could make up for Wood and Maddux. If you have to keep only one, I'd say Z, because he actually helps himself out fairly well with the bat, and has been the only one who been consistently healthy. But that's JMO.
  4. Gut the team? No - just the OF, some of the pen, the manager and his cronies (which may include the GM). An IF of Barrett, Lee, Hairston, Cedeno, and Ramirez will be just fine.
  5. Granted (although I didn't know that, thanks), but there's hope that someone out there would have the guts to play the Moneyball philosophy with the Cubs. I think it would be a good match: the Trib is cheap (or, let's just say they want to squeeze all the ink they can out of a buck), and the philosophy has been proven to get a team to the playoffs practically perennially (see the AL West lately? The A's look poised for that second half surge). The rest is dumb luck (all right, the Cubs run short on that) and three good starting pitchers (which I think our staff has, at least when you put them all together). But why is DePo doing so poorly with LA? He was Beane's former number cruncher - thought he would do even better with a bigger payroll.
  6. Kinda stinks to pray for disaster, doesn't it? Yet, I'm halfway hoping for a terrible season, like 2002. That's about the only way Dusty has no excuses for a poor outing and can't take credit for a good one. I'm with you on Cedeno. I want Cedeno and Hairston as the Cub middle IF yesterday. But with Dusty screwing around, we won't see it next year... if we see it at all.. and will lose Walker to boot. Can't you just hear management: "Who to replace them with... " and the next thing you know we have a couple of deadweight whiff kings past their prime again. Unflippingbelieveable. Times like these make me want to rip my Cubbie license plate border off my car and throw it in the dumpster. "Believe" THAT!!!!
  7. if this tailspin keeps going, at least Baker will be gone by the end of the season. That, or even Jim Hendry's head will not be safe from the wrath of fans. Speaking of Jim, maybe it's Billy Beane time? We could do worse... and have. This season is quickly rotting a la 2002. :x EDIT: I wonder if this belongs in Rants? I'll leave it for a mod to decide.
  8. Here's an admittedly crazy idea - if we don't get Kots, Winn, or snag something (Jason Bay? ) out of our AAAA closet (a.k.a. the Pittsburgh Pirates): Can TWalk play LF at all? I want Hairston and Cedeno up the middle next year (although Dusty is doing his best to louse that up!) as 1-2 in the order. But if Corey keeps being KKKKKorey, TWalk and Hairston could stop the OBP bleeding if in the lineup everyday. Corey is usually no slouch on defense, so even if he continues to stink with the bat, the defense would be there, and could make up for Walker's sins in positioning. And I want that tool Neifi on the bench yesterday, with Macias as his footstool!!!!
  9. In all fariness, though, I think Milwaukee made the switch after Remmy was announced.
  10. Please get off your ASS and tell MEAT TRAY to get that last out, Larry. Okay, getting Sergio out of there is better. Who is Remmy facing?
  11. Sorry, I'm not watching and Gamecast. Where was he hit? Did it look bad? On his left leg, above the armor and the below of the knee. Well, Cedeno can play 3B too. I'd better not see Macias there tomorrow. Please stop being the MeatBALL tray, Sergio. :x
  12. And Mitre K's that pesky Overbay. :D EDIT: And lets Damien FREAKING Miller jack one out.
  13. While I understand the attempt at humor, don't forget - we try to keep things on a G to PG level here. (That, and the imagery is a bit much. I never was a big Sammy fan, but eww!)
  14. "Baby, you can sleep while I drive."
  15. I am so on this bandWGN. I knew I should have started it yesterday - I could be driving now! :D
  16. Well, I don't feel all that great, so I have a kind of excuse. I think it was mainly stress, though. :) Happily, I have a home office. Now I think I'm going to get back to work. I got my tix for Tues, and someone else from here was able to get me tix for Wed. (TY, TY, TY! And just remember, I'll track you down and get you if you flake out on me!!! ) Not too worried about the Thu game - being it's the Rockettes - er, Rockies, I could probably get decent seats if I checked in tomorrow.
  17. Four now: May 21 vs. White Sox June 10 vs. Red Sox June 11 vs. Red Sox June 12 vs. Red Sox
  18. All rightie, then, just started my second - no third hour in the VWR. I don't ask for much, just a few games around my birthday. Here's my priorities: Two tix each to: (1) 5/25 v. Houston (2) 5/24 vs. Houston (3) 5/26 v. Colorado If you get in, could you PM me, or better yet, IM me on AOL (KatherineJo) after you've made your own purchases? I would much appreciate if you could stay in a while longer if you can, to pick up the tix above - best available seating.
  19. holy jesus, selling a few of my sawks tix will pay for a ton of games Isn't it illegal to sell your tickets for over face value in Illinois? yes, unless you're licensed as a broker. if you sell them over Ebay, nobody cares. Just to be on the safe side, though, on eBay be sure you throw in some cheapie Cubs item, like a baseball card you can part with, or even a zillion pocket programs. You can get away with saying the $$ are for the stuff, and the tix are at face value. It's a transparent argument, but it does work.
  20. I don't think it matters. It's like every lottery - you need to have about 100,000 entries to up your chances of winning by single digit percentage points.
  21. Sure, I'll put my hat into the ring... So that puts me on deck for 2007, right? :D
  22. Left-handed, One Out Guy.
  23. Reminds me of my last annual review - the boss said people don't realize the power they have. :D Thanks!
  24. That's a good one. I also like BaseballLibrary.com. It has a lot of biographical and anecdotal information. They also have a list of what folks have been reading from the site lately (see "recent jumps" on the upper left hand side). Downside is the stats on current players are at least a year out of date. I have seen some updates, but it's willy nilly. I've found it best for past players (and managers), or to refresh my recollection on the earlier years of current players' careers.
