  1. Think about the power potential should Pujols comes to the Cubs. Bottling the tears of Cards fans and harnessing the energy released by the wholesale burning of old Pujols gear would probably provide enough power to make America energy independent. This needs to happen. For the kids. For the future!
  2. And Skynet controlling our nukes and defensive systems, amiright?
  3. I think Keith is playing fine. He's had a few miscues, but nothing terrible. Sometimes Keith looks like he's making a mistake when he covers for Leddy or a forward, but in reality, Keith has made very few mistakes.
  4. Q is using 4-7 as a match-up shutdown line with Frolik-Bolland-Bickell against other #1 lines, and he's using 2-8 as an offensive punch pairing -- usually with Carcillo-Kane-Hossa to give that line additional pop. 5-6 rotates with the 4-7 and 2-8 pairs with the Brunette-Toews-Sharp line and Stalberg-Kruger-Mayers line (and sometimes with Carcillo-Kane-Hossa). 4-7 and 2-8 are getting about the same time on ice, with 5-6 getting a few minutes less per game.
  5. I'll say that a leadoff hitter is a hole to this. Are you... Are you saying... Are you saying that leadoff hitter is a need for the Cubs? No. That's not possible.
  6. It will be fun to try and figure out the rationale Theo et al use in a particular instance, or as a part of the whole. This is a great contrast to the constant wtf! moments of the Hendry era.
  7. Yay! We win the skills competition for the extra point.
  8. Damn. Another post.
  9. Okay. Let's win this in OT.
  10. Crap. 5th penalty of the night. Need to be more disciplined than this.
  11. Too bad Manny Acta is under contract with the Indians.
  12. I'm not too concerned about other teams right now because it is way too early and the schedules are very imbalanced to this point. And I don't care about the East at all, of course. The important thing is to not dig the team into a hole, and to sustain a high enough ppg to make the playoffs/win the division. The Hawks are on a 117 point pace -- and that's enough to fit my criteria.
  13. A little different though -- the Hawks managed to come back from a 3-1 deficit against a team that is playing really well. Most of the crappy, lackluster games last season were against really bad teams -- NJ, EDMx2, CGY, etc, etc, etc. They definitely could have and probably should have played better, but overall I'm very pleased with where they are and how they've played.
  14. Thank you for the pick.
  15. Real questionable 4th quarter here so far from everyone -- from the coaching on down.
  16. Sounds great, frankly. This is a situation where I don't want one guy with a big brain running the show. I want a bunch of really smart people all working together toward the same goal and figuring out how to build the model franchise.
  17. ROFL...so meaningless. If it was progressing well, it'd be done. I'm still laughing at the roble roble post by Kyle.
  18. Ah... ye goode olde days.
  19. I would say spending too much time with the puck in our zone and making lazy passes follow the pattern of last year, but its too early in the season to suggest its as bad as it was last year. It definitely was a bit of a problem in the third period when they were up by two goals. Honestly, though, that was a pretty dominating performance. Keith's losing an edge is really all that happened to keep Phoenix in the game. LaBarbera was pretty solid for them in the net, and it took a bit for the Hawks to really start cleaning up down low. A couple of offensive keys to the win: 1. Net presence; and, 2. Winning board battles.
  20. I like this I bet if you look at every single trade negotiation you'll see instances like this more often than not. That's one way to negotiate. Another way, which I've personally found to be much more effective, is to start with an offer just on the other side of fair (for you) and acknowledge the relative values and come to an agreement both sides find reasonable. Generally, when someone negotiates in ridiculous land "just because you have to ask" I harden my stance and try and get as much as I can. My way tends to lead to better results for both sides and develops relationships. The other way leads to scorched earth.
  21. That's likely the case. They are pretty high on Smith. I suppose it could also be that they are sufficiently happy with Kruger at the moment that Smith is redundant... or not. I think that fairly soon, Smith, Pirri, Kruger and Morin will all be pushing for time in Chicago with their play (one of the 4 was always going to be in Chicago). I've been thinking on a Smith-Kruger-Mayers line, and for a lot of teams, that's a really solid third line. Which makes me think that among the Carcillo/Brunette/Stalberg trifecta, someone's going to get traded. I think it'll be Stalberg -- he's cheap, fast, and doesn't have a real spot on this time. On the bright side, with all the youth and the 23 man roster full every night, there's a lot of depth to cover for injuries. In hockey, as we saw over the past two years, depth is critical.
  22. Someone told him that his protection against an angry mob would be his offensive line.
  23. They did. I believe the Hawks had played by far the most games through November of any team. From a team-building/chemistry standpoint, I think all the rest days are good. It helps the team learn how each other plays, give more practice time, and hopefully stay healthy as they build into mid-season form. In particular, I think it's really good for Patrick Sharp since he missed Training Camp with his emergency appendectomy. Totally unrelated... I really have liked what I've seen from Kruger in the past couple of games. He hasn't made any mistakes and there have been some really nice plays and passes -- if he weren't playing with John Scott and Jamal Mayers, he might be getting some nice assists. I wouldn't mind seeing a 4th line of Stalberg-Kruger-Mayers, actually. Stalberg creates a lot of mismatches with his speed and skating, Mayers creates a lot of space and with Kruger's passing... that line could easily make life very difficult for other 4th lines.
