Two issues: 1) Health: Obviously, if there's a real chance he gets is hurting himself from an injury standpoint by playing, he shouldn't and he won't. So not worried. 2) Rust/Timing: Maybe someone who has played baseball on a high level can provide some input here but I'm just not buying it. This guy has been hitting a baseball for 20 years. He's been facing live pitching for a while. He's been working out. Ballplayers who are playing every day can go into slumps where they can't hit a beachball (see Heyward) and ballplayers can come back from a long stint on the DL and hit 2 home runs in their first 2 AB's. I'll take my chances with a rusty Schwarber over Coughlan or Lastella every single time. One factor will be base running, but as long as he can get from base to base it's a perfectly fine tradeoff to me. So he's definitely on the roster. Now how much he plays is a different issue and depends on what's happening with Heyward, Contraras, Almora etc in the outfield since it seems as if Contreras has made a strong case to play even when he's not catching, maybe as a DH. Soler, however, hasn't.
