I hate checked swings. There literally isn't a rule on them. They don't exist according to an MLB rule book. Major League Baseball is super weird. We have more data on this sport than any other, and the strike zone and checked swings and infield flys are all "IDK, dude, what do you think? What's the vibe on that one?"

Credit to Miz, that was a good slider. He's got a 121 Stuff+ on the pitch and the highest velo by 2+ mph on the pitch. When he buries the thing, like he did, it's nasty. When he hangs it, it's terrible. It's just a 94mph fastball.

I want it on the record I never had anything bad to say about the Colin Rea signing and I always loved him. There may be posts in the original Colin Rea thread that suggests otherwise, but this is what I want.

You cannot chase Miz. He might be the toughest pitcher in baseball to hit when his fastball is on the shadow. I know that's hard, he throws so fast, but you have to basically sit middle-middle. You can crush him mid-mid. More than most, despite the velo.

I don't think that's true. I see the Brewers as little brother as well. It's not a thing that's against how they've taken the division but that the Cubs' natural rival over the years as been the Cardinals. It's Milwaukee that has to protect seats with ID ticket sales. They act like little brother. Sometimes little brother wins. But it's little brother behavior.

Megill probably doesn't have much more in him per Trueblood. Doesn't think he's got more than 4 or 5 hitters.

Pomeranz has a big spot. Keep the Brewers off the scoreboard and even at 0-0 you're coming out ahead trading an inning of Pomeranz for one of Megill.

Megill throws fastball-curve. Busch has a .500 SLG against curves and a +14 RV on fastballs, tied for 14th in the league. I don't hate the Megill vs Busch matchup.

His stuff is still good. He just needs to locate it. I doubt anyone is tabbed for more than six outs tonight, so he doesn't have to be perfect for 6 innings, just good enough for six outs or less if called upon. I've got confidence in most anyone in the amount of time they'll be tasked for. at least on paper.

I play 20-30 games of baseball a year. Between MiLB and MLB I watch, parts of a disgusting amount of games, frankly, probably embarrassing to admit how many there are. I will subtly root for the Mariners if tonight goes poorly, but once the Cubs are out, I take a timeout in my life from watching baseball only to resume again Opening Day.
