  1. To the opposite field to boot If you delete april from his season the hashline is AB 47 Avg .319 OBP .347 SLG .553 BB/K 2/18 His K rate is still real high but its pretty nice overall.
  2. It is a small sample size (43AB) he needs to do for a bit longer but i wouldnt be mad at 23 Homers and 58 Walks from a infielder. (thats over 500 ab)
  3. Yeah they dont, they probably would deal Colon but thats about it. Perhaps if the money and injury risk was a bit lower they would consider? who knows.
  4. If Javy can keep up his seemingly better approach at the dish its going to be hard to not find a spot for him. Bottom line with Bryant is that he will do what the team asks him, however he and boras know that his value is maximized at 3b or CF based on his potential at the plate. If they made a short term LF change that'd be cool. But dont be surprised if that happened Bryant would train all offseason to be a CF in 2016. Just saying dude has some speed, which has been pretty underrated. I'd go as far as to say he would probably be able to work with a hall of fame caliber outfielder in the off season to expedite the process of learning good routes and jumps on the ball. With his height, he could steal a few homers (well not at wrigley but on the road) too. One thing I think we can say about KB is he works HARD at his game like Rizzo. He will only get better.
  5. Alright so his first 2 games coming back he scuffled hard. Probably was rusty just came back from his family matters... so taking those 2 games (2 of 14) out, the 12 games since then he has put up this hashline BB HR RBI AVG OBP SLG OPS 5 2 5 .302 .390 .465 .855 looks like even tho his power is lower than his entire milb history he has increase his obp recently so his over all ops is lower but he is getting on base more.. hmm i hope baez keeps up this trend. trades get interesting?
  6. Great Double play king is gonna turn KB and Riz BBs into outs. If they just pitch around KB and Riz each at bat thats the way they win.
  7. Isn't that the only bad team we've played or will play for awhile? Edit: Nevermind the Rockies suck now. Reds kinda suck
  8. Rickey Henderson? heck ya. there will probably never be another rickey though.
  9. What do you think reasonable expectations are for a 5th starter? And yes, I absolutely do see them aggressively pursuing a top end SP in free agency in the offseason (barring a trade for one that I hope we do not make unless it's really necessary). EDIT - Wait, did you say a bunch? Why would you say that? They already have 2 very good starters. Barring terrible injuries or something, if they signed one, they'd have 3 that would slot at #1 for a lot of teams. I think reasonable expectations to be the best team in baseball would be having a 5th starter that consistently gets quality starts. Aside from that depth in the rotation and pen. we all know pitchers are mostly made of glass if one of our top guys went down for a while were screwed we dont have depth like the cards.
  10. would be nice to have a mega speedster thanks for the tip on Hannemann ill start following his lines on the box score
  11. We cant really replace Travis Wood besides Wada. Honestly neither of them are very good. Essentially we have a pretty good chance to lose 2/5 games automatically at this rate considering the bullpen is not very good. while a .600 winning percentage is amazing you cant expect lester arietta and hammel to win EVERY game going 7+ innings. i get the strategy that the FO did and its working for the most part to make the team better, if ricketts is going to give theo blank checks this offseason and they can pick up a bunch of top end pitchers that'd be cool, but do you really see that happening? The details aside, i dont know why they wouldnt swap a little depth for a little depth.
  12. Its so true, seems like aside from the Cardinals and Padres this year we lose to the bad teams pretty badly. Cards/Padres both series we were in nearly every game till the end.
  13. I see thanks! I was hoping we had a OBP machine speedster, i really like Billy Hamiltons / Dee Gordons game and was hoping we could see a guy like that come through the system and eventually end up on the team at some point
  14. technically yes, i suppose i should have said 8.
  15. Who are the best prospects per tool (not including guys considered prospects on the 40 man roster) and what position? Running Speed Arm Strength Contact Power Fielding
  16. Here's the thing about pitching prospects, they end up producing about half as much value as an equivalent hitting prospect. This is slightly dated so the actual numbers aren't exactly right any more, but the more recent study I can't find right now showed the ratio between hitters and pitchers is about the same as seen here: http://www.piratesprospects.com/2012/06/updating-the-trade-surplus-values.html thing is after you have 9 solid young guys on the field what do you do with high end prospects? yeah trade for pitching. Castro believe it or not has the highest value at a position we have depth, gotta use him for pitching. might be better to wait till the offseason tho.
  17. yeah definitely a good trend for the cubbies make em throw more pitches, so they have a higher chance of making a mistake. just keep taking advantage of those mistakes and its golden. (aka no strike out looking guys)
  18. and we don't want to trade for this kid syndergaard why?
  19. twice and he feels forearm tightness on the second one I hope castro dont hit into 2 double plays off him. And i hope his arm feels great so when we get him he dont go on the DL>
  20. what certainty is there that we're not mired in a repeat of '13 for Castro? is it greater than the odds that Syndergaard doesn't acclimate or that Matz can't immediately be a viable high-leverage reliever? Are you more concerned about 2015 or simply having the most overall talent in the org to set up a longer run? I think it's much more likely that Starlin is a positive 2015 asset. It's probably about a wash in the long run if you look at him for Thor + Matz. Given what you know of my opinion of Starlin, that's how down I am on trading assets for pitching prospects, in general. For the trade proposal I was responding to in particular, adding Almora and Torres on top of Starlin for those guys is, IMO, ludicrous. Every teams fans are going to have a much higher regard for their own teams prospects / players than the opposing team. We have a glaring hole in the pitching staff, rather than trading away prospects for rental players at the deadline, as a fan of the cubs i'd rather trade long term talent pitching talent for long term hitting talent . it just so happens that the METS are one of the few teams that have excess of that other than maybe the Nationals.
  21. thinking it's plausible a team's going to give up that type of value just to marginally upgrade from Flores to Castro is even worse Castro hasn't made one single identifiable offensive improvement in the six seasons he's had in the majors, it might be time to stop expecting it the fact that it's implausible is precisely why i find castro trade talk annoying. he's not going to net what he and his contract are actually worth. Thats why you gotta add in guys like Gleyber, Almora and company
  22. I dunno if the white sox thing is very feasible the FO down south would want to avoid having to live with getting heckled by the local media by getting ripped off by theo. Either way the cubs need to improve the pitching ASAP.
  23. So...a top 10-15 shortstop on a great contract, a top 50 and a top 75 prospect for two pitching prospects and a reliever? I'm going to go with no. Syndergaard is #11 in all of MLB in 2015 rankings Matz is #65 Almora is #56 Torres isnt even on the top 100 list. This is not a big strech.
  24. If you can replace Wood with a TOR stuff prospect, add a quality arm in the pen, and get another TOR caliber prospect to groom for next year, i dont see why you do not do that .. Im not a big fan of Castro to be honest. He has alot of RBI's because of his spot in the order not because he is raking and he hits into lots of double plays. I'd rather see russell at SS add some quality arms that will be cheap for years and spend like nuts on Cueto/Price/etc in FA
  25. You are against trading with the mets for PITCHING which we need? Really!?! Why?!?!
