    I was almost asleep when this came through on espn radio. Was praying it was a bad dream. Such devastating news, especially seeing he was about to be a father.

    Put me down for Contreras. I see a big home run late in a game in which the Cubs are trailing, where he may not have even started. Yes, he can be overzealous, but I can only imagine how exciting it'd be to see him fist pumping and whooping it up rounding the bases.

    I met Fred and a few others through this site way way way back when (2005-06 timeframe?) and it was certainly a memorable experience. How cool was it to meet THE stats guy from NSBB at a Cubs game in real life!? He was an amazing person to share a Cubs game with. Very sad news.

    What's been really encouraging is that his K rate has dipped during this past month and only 7 strikeouts in his last 17 games. Its scary to think what he could be striking out only 100 times a year. His pitch recognition is already amongst the league's best.

    Ugh. I watched the first 5 innings or so of the Dodgers broadcast thanks to stupid Dish not having a deal with ABC (or WGN, for that matter). He was so [expletive] boring. For me it was a total novelty. Rest assured, I went back and enjoyed all the highlights for Len/JD and Pat/Ron's perspective. I thought Pat's home run call on KB's 10th inning shot was actually really good. He has toned back it seems, but maybe I don't listen to enough of him...
