  1. Hopefully Hamilton is his mentor and caretaker.
  2. Phil Rogers says the Rays / Cubs discussion has involved Szczur, Vogelbach and Christian Villanueva as well as Javy Baez. Is there any chance they would take the first three for one of their relievers? Would free up 40 man roster space and help our bullpen out.
  3. Yeah isn't that what was reported a few days back before it resurfaced with Gordo? IIRC they wanted some crazy package back from AZ including Pollock. If both the Cubs and the Diamondbacks are out on Shelby Miller that seems to mean his price is too high and the Braves will have to keep him or lower their asking price if they do intend on dealing him.
  4. I will be checked many times on this undoubtedly, but so long as nobody was raped or murdered lets get the whole story together first. A month+ later and there's still two sides to this whole thing is at least somewhat telling. So everything is okay as long as no one gets raped or murdered? :banghead:
  5. The Cubs are not giving away Baez and they are not trading him for a reliever. Back away from your keyboard and breathe.
  6. They do seem to be intent on trading for another young pitcher which I am on board with. Combine that with them resigning Trevor Cahill it does seem pretty clear that they are going to try and shed Hammel's contract. Trading Wood or non tendering him seems like a good way to go as well. They will probably have to add a bullpen arm if they get rid of Wood but it seems like they are looking for one so I bet once they figure that out Wood is a goner. I don't see Montero being moved because we do seem to lack options if they trade him so unless they can find a reasonably priced catcher that will work for a year or two I see Montero sticking around. Getting rid of Wood and Hammel's contract should be enough to make a run at Heyward or Gordon/Span if they end up trading Soler.

  8. I took it to mean that they like both players I am sure Baltimore doesn't actually think they will get both for Gausman. The more teams that are interested in Baez and Soler the better for the Cubs obviously. So far we have seen Atlanta, Baltimore, and Tampa and maybe Cleveland are all interested in our guys. We should definitely be able to get a good package for one of them.
  9. It was Joe Maddon at the end of July and the promise(?) was no trade during the season. The season is over. A 25 year-old 3-time All-Star cost-controlled SS is a centerpiece trade chip for Theo and Jed. These speculative dump-diving trades are aiming too low. http://www.chicagotribune.com/sports/baseball/cubs/ct-starln-castro-not-traded-20150729-story.html http://chicago.suntimes.com/sports/7/71/1158534/cubs-still-questions-hope-answer-winter-meetings Thanks, David. Don't read the ST daily. But I still think they're offering him around. He's got such a fragile psyche it seems. What other Cubs player has to be told twice in 6 months that he won't be traded? It does sound like they are trying to trade either Baez or Soler instead of him though. Maybe there is a lot less interest in him so they are deciding to just keep him for that reason.
  10. The home plate ump might tire of being hit by every pitch. I don't think having David Ross as the only catcher on your roster is a good idea.
  11. I feel a lot better about our pitching depth with him back in the mix but I still would like to trade for a young starting pitcher.
  12. I saw some tweets that said something along the lines of Schwarber for relievers is unlikely to happen. That actually made me laugh out loud.
  13. I guess I just am not worried about Cinci at all so even though the Dodgers aren't in our division the thought of having to face Chapman and Jansen in the 8 and 9th inning in the playoffs is scary. So I wanted them to get ripped off. But that doesn't seem to be the case so oh well.
  14. Yeah I hope its Urias and Seager as well. It probably isn't of course but it's gotta be 2 of the better prospects for sure.
  15. Your sixth guy isn't really "depth." He is more likely to be in the rotation than not And we kinda already have that in Richard, Wood, and maybe Pierce Johnson later in the year. I don't want the Cubs to have to count on any of these guys to start a bunch of games for us next year.
  16. I hope they do something dumb like trading Seager for Chapman.
  17. Rosenthal reporting that the dodgers are in talks to aquire Chapman from the Reds for prospects.
  18. I can't get behind giving 16 million dollars a year to this douche.
  19. Apparently Bruce Levine said on the radio this morning that the Cubs want to have a free agent signed before the meetings start on Sunday. They better hurry up then!
  20. I wonder what we would have to add with Soler to get both Miller and Teheren. If we got both it would then allow us to go all in on Heyward.
  21. That's a pretty reasonable contract good for Detroit. For the Cubs this seems to mean 1 of 2 things. They either had no interest in Zimmermann at all or they are dead certain that they can get a guy or 2 that are better and or cheaper.
  22. According to a guy on Twitter the injuries are said to not be life threatening. If that's true that's pretty remarkable since one of them hit the head.
