  1. He's a good prospect with some sleeper potential. However, I am of the opinion that his numbers benefited from pitching in an extreme pitcher's league. Originally was a reliever that was converted to a starter and put up good numbers this season down in the Florida State League He has an average fastball and a plus slider. However, he's not sticking at this point in his career. My main reason? G/F: 0.76 Yep, that's his groundball/flyball ratio from this past season. I can't exactly say I'd be thrilled if I were a Cardinals fan.
  2. HRs I can dig. But RBIs? There's too much stuff that RBIs depend upon to make me see them as a legitimate stat in objectively evaluating a player. Tejada's better than Walker by a fair margin, though.
  3. This deal just got a heck of a lot better for Milwaukee.
  4. Bush is a decent young pitcher, as memory serves me. Not a bad trade, imo.
  5. Actually, the strange thing about Juan Pierre, looking at him more in-depth, is that his #P/PA took a noticeable leap to 3.69 last season as opposed to 3.51 and 3.44 in previous years. Kinda makes you wonder why his OBP was as low as it was last season.
  6. They also have Salty coming up from the minors in the near future.
  7. Alou was a tough strikeout, too. I wouldn't exactly say it was a result of his patience, though.
  8. Nobody thought Hendry would be able to pull Murton from the Red Sox, also. So it wouldn't surprise me if Kensing, Vargas, or Olsen is coming along with Pierre. Which would be fine with me. That part of the deal will end up being a big key, imo. If the Cubs get some one talented who has logged a decent amount of time in the majors or some one who has a good ceiling and is close to being ready to go regularly in the majors from the Marlins, then they will have an important trading chip that would help them acquire some one like Bobby Abreu or Adam Dunn. A package involving Josh Johnson, Jerome Williams, Roberto Novoa, and Scott Moore would like quite tempting to the Phillies for Abreu, no?
  9. Mench is going to Florida? :-k
  10. http://www.heritagekonpa.com/images/Juan%20Pierre%20of%20Florida%20Marlin.jpg Chop chop gents! I shan't wait to be getting that Wiggly Feel in front of the lovely ivory of Wrigley Field!
  11. Stubborn GM Chuck LaMar was shown the door not too long ago. I have no idea how the new GM operates, but the rumors regarding Lugo and Huff seem a bit more reasonable than demanding Carlos Zambrano straight up.
  12. Hmmmmmmm...this OF has the potential to be dicey from an offensive standpoint. If Jim Hendry continues to pursue Milton Bradley, an OF of Murton-Pierre-Bradley is concerning to me, especially considering Bradley's never played more than 141 games in a season during his stint in the majors and coupling that with the fact that he played 75 games last season. I would have been fine with him in CF, but in RF? I'm hoping Hendry has a rabbit in his hat to fill that hole.
  13. How does Petit not crack the rotation?!?!?!? Sounds made up to me  Petit's highly overrated. None of his stuff is really noteworthy. He could pan out, but my gut's telling me he is on his way to getting shellacked in the majors.
  14. Let's say that, given the time this deal was done, Jim Hendry got Larry Beinfest really drunk and convinced Beinfest to send Scott Olsen to the Cubs along with Juan Pierre. In possession of Olsen, do you think a package of, say, him, Williams, and Scott Moore could get a deal for Abreu done?
  15. Aw, c'mon Mush--Fez is a total zero, and Nolasco and Pinto only look good because they pitched well while REPEATING AA. That's a big leap to get from AA success to useful major leaguer, as their failure in AAA in 2004 attests. None of these guys are anything other than marginal prospects. So, good trade! When the situation is dire, you need to overpay, OK, but what's done is done. We finally have a leadoff man. You are right--if Pierre performs in 2006 as he did in either 2001, 2003, or 2004, Cub fans are going to be very VERY happy. I'd say that Pinto's struggles at AAA were more concerning than Nolasco's struggles, especially considering Nolasco was described as "not ready" by most reports when he was initially called up to AAA. Sometimes guys need more patience than others. I'm going to wait and see on this trade in terms of the pitching prospect from the Marlins. If it's some one who could crack the Cubs' Top 10 prospects list or some one with a nice ceiling, that could make this deal more pallatable. Or, he could potentially be used in a second trade for a RF.
  16. I'm going to guess Washington. Bowden loves toolsy guys. Any confirmation on whether a pitching prospect is actually included or not?
  17. I wouldn't call those three highly-rated prospects...but I am of the mindset that the Cubs could do much better in trading those three prospects.
  18. Something tells me this post is going to lead directly to another ten pages of replies. I apologize, but it's a thought that I've been sitting on for a little while. I know Patterson has had some issues, but I truly believe it's because no one has let him settle into a specific role at the plate. I would be happy with that as an outfield. I guess that's just me though. I'm still of the mindset that Patterson could turn it around with another organization. I don't think he has much of a future with the Cubs, but that's just me.

  20. I think it's going to cost more to get Wilkerson or Bradley. I can tell you right now that Pinto and Nolasco are much better than Saarloos and Ramos. If those two A's prospects are all it takes to get this deal done, then I fail to see how Nolasco & Pinto wouldn't trump it.
  21. Depends on who you ask. Take the NSBB Top Tens, for example: Tim: Pawelek, Hill, Marshall, Pinto UK: Marshall, Pinto, Pawelek Raw: Hill, Pawelek, Marshall, Pinto T2E: Pawelek, Hill, Marshall, Pinto
  22. Pinto is the 2nd or 3rd best LHP in our system. Nolasco had a breakout year this past year, but IIRC doesn't project to be better than a #3-4 starter. Personally, I don't think that's the case any more. 1) Mark Pawelek 2) Rich Hill 3) Sean Marshall 4 is a tossup between Pinto and Veal. Nolasco's breakout year was last season in AA. He was bumped up to AAA before being ready and got knocked around accordingly. He had a pretty darn good year in AA this past season, though.
