    Florida active pitchers who were Cubs or in the Cubs' system... Joe Borowski Sergio Mitre Ricky Nolasco Todd Wellemeyer Dontrelle Willis Borowski was not traded to Marlins by Cubs. I know, but he was a former Cub and basically rejuvenated his career through the Cubs. Just thought I'd make that point.

    If we end up with any two of the following: Tyrus Thomas Joakim Noah Brandon Roy Randy Foye I'll be happy. O'Bryant is an interesting player, but not worth a Top 3 pick. Aldridge is soft, which drives me nuts. Morrison will be productive, but he won't be an impact player. Gay is sooooooooo lazy. Of course, with the Bulls' luck, only Roy and Foye will be in the draft. Guh.

    Sorry, no such luck. The Astros have one more starter that has shown he is capable of being decent, Backe. If Pettite keeps pitching like this and Oswalt and Backe have to carry the load, and if they continue to average 1/2 a run a game, the Astros are in biiiiiig trouble. :D What's their rotation look like? Oswalt Pettitte Backe Magic Wandy Buchholz? Nieve?

    You guys know how much I really like Mitre. I always felt he deserved a shot to be the starter over the course of a season. Hopefully it works out well for him in Florida. :D

    Oh, I agree. I think a fan who throws something at a fan should be banned from that ballpark, permenantly. Especially if it's a Super Twinkie thrown down to Lance Berkman, who proceeds to hit a homerun the inning after consuming said Super Twinkie.

    What else do the Cards have to offer beyond Reyes? They're farm system is even more shallow than ours is. We've got some arms and a few really good position prospects. Aside from Reyes and Wainright, all of them are a few years away, but guys like Chris Lambert, Mark McCormick, Colby Rasmus, Tyler Greene, Stuart Pomeranz could be considered potential star prospects. Unfortunately, any trade for Cabrera would almost certainly completely deplete our system which is just now starting to become respectable. The Cards have some interesting guys however they don't have the talent to get a guy like Cabrera. As it has been said, Reyes is about it. The Cardinals cannot trade any of the players they drafted until a year after they signed them (which would be around June 11th for Rasmus and July 1st for Greene). Rasmus has nice potential, but he should be down in Low A for most of the season unless he mashes. He has a ways to go before he's ready, especially given the fact that he needs to get some meat on his bones and learn to cut down on the Ks. Greene, on the other hand, is an effective defensive player at SS, but a question mark at the plate. He should be starting at High A/AA and likely will need at least another year down in the minors before he's ready to be called up. In other words, I don't think they'd be all that tempting to the Marlins. I have a feeling that if they trade Cabrera, it'll be for guys who are close to the majors or have already accumulated a short amount of time in the majors. If the Dodgers want to make a run at him, they've got the prospects and depth to nab him in a trade. Billingsley, Martin, and LaRoche would definitely be a nice package.

    I'm going to take issue with this statement, although I do believe there is some credence to it. It comes down to a matter of preference. In essence, it boils down to this: Would you rather have a large pool of pitchers who are all fairly talented, but are likely to end up as middle of the rotation guys, or would you have a significantly smaller number of elite pitching prospects who could end up as front of the rotation guys? In the best of all worlds, your farm system would be a combination of the two...but that rarely happens. The Marlins' system appears to be more on the side of things with a large pool of potential middle/back end of the rotation guys (although I like Volstad's and Olsen's respective potential). We have all seen a number of future aces not live up to their potential, be it because of injuries or otherwise. Yes, some guys can live up to the hype, but it's just so rare when you look at how many prospects are out there. At least with that larger pool, there is a greater chance that some guys will be able to step up and contribute at the major league level. Occasionally, guys can seemingly come out of nowhere and do an incredible job (Dontrelle Willis is a good example of this). It gives a team more options and flexibility. Heck, if the Marlins weren't so bleeping cheap, they would have undeniably great ammo to use at the trade deadline if they were still in the hunt. They could easily assemble a tempting package for almost any player with the pitching they have.

    One of the saving graces of having Pierre in the lineup is that Dusty will never EVER be tempted to lead off with Neifi or Mabry as long as he's starting.
