    Seahawks 28 Steelers 24 MVP - Darrell Jackson I was supposed to watch this at a friend's place...but he went and got food poisoning. :( I made salsa to make me happy, though.

    Ditto to this remark. I'd like to see Eric get significant playing time against AA/AAA pitching this season, especially considering he'll be seeing much more advanced pitchers at those levels. I'm not quite sure what to expect from Eric if he reaches the majors, to be truthful. He did a very good job against Low A pitching last season, but he was advanced for his level. Now, as memory serves me, he did pretty well during his time in AA last season, but it's hard to take those numbers and predict how well he'll do in the majors. Still, he's a legit prospect and there's plenty there to like. He'll hopefully push for the full time 2B job in 2007.

    BA thought highly enough of him to rate him the #1 prospect in the Astros organization over Troy Patton who, in my opinion, has the potential to torment the NL Central for years to come. A lefty with that kind of stuff and control who can keep the ball in the park is pretty hard to come by, ya know?

    Come on, enough with the Norman Rockwell/George Will nostalgia crap. It's a load and to maintain otherwise is just ignorant. Players in the old days were showboats. They were jerks. They were egomaniacs. They did things on the field that, if they happened today, would send the sports media into an absolute uproar. Whether it was stealing signs, scuffing balls, corking bats, screwing around with the basepaths, or whatever, this stuff has been going on since baseball has been played as a professional sport. If anything, not much has changed since those days. With the changes that have happened, I'd maintain that baseball is better for those happening.

    The number of errors Moore had last season at 3B is what worries me the most about him. He put up good offensive numbers last season (that goes without saying), but if he is going to require a move to another position, those numbers won't look nearly as good as they do now.

    I'm in the midst of a discussion with some people at the moment regarding what exactly saved baseball following the strike. According to most of the people involved in the argument, a large number of people in the United States grew disgusted with baseball during and following the strike due to a myriad of reasons (cancelled World Series, greed, etc). The logic that follows from this was that MLB would have basically gone under if certain things had not saved baseball. There are a couple of theories regarding what precisely was what saved baseball. A few of them are... -The resurgence of the Yankees along with the continuing Yankees/Red Sox rivalry. -The McGwire/Sosa HR chase. -Significant increases in international exposure through more and more foreign-born stars rising to prominence (Ichiro, Hideki Matsui, Sammy Sosa, etc). -Increased offensive production. So...did any of these save baseball? None of them? Did baseball even need saving to begin with? I'm curious to see what people think.

    Phelps is also still recovering from a horrifying injury he sustained in the season prior to the draft. Early in the season, his catcher accidentally hit him in the head with a throw, fracturing his skull and causing him to miss six weeks. I'd imagine that kind of injury tends to play with a pitcher's mind. He's still a little rough around the edges, but there's a lot there to like. If he had returned to Central Missouri State and had a healthy and productive '06, he could have been drafted quite a ways higher.

    It was Carlos Zambrano, as memory serves me. Marmol was converted from catcher, so he's still relatively new to pitching. He's pretty much been exclusively a starter up to this point. I don't know if the Cubs have had him throw some bullpen sessions or what, but this past season he started all of the games he played in between Daytona and West Tenn. Marmol is a guy I'm up and down on. He gives up a touch too many HRs for my liking and needs to work on his control. However, he's still new enough to pitching that he could make further improvements to his game. I'm not sure how he'll look as a reliever, but it should be interesting to see how the Cubs put him to use.

    I like Carter's potential. If he can stick at catcher, he might be one heck of a pickup. Canzler was repeating Mesa, but the numbers he put up last season were still quite good. I think what's held him back has been his lack of an established position, but I could be wrong. On the offensive side of matters, I'm curious to see what ends up happening with 3B Elvin Puello. He put up very good numbers last season, but this season didn't seem to be at the top of his game. A couple of others to keep an eye on who were below Full Season A: C Jake Muyco C Mario Mercedes IF Dylan Johnston IF Sammy Baez RHP William Paganetti (reliever) RHP Jose Pina RHP Scott Taylor

    I'm leery of him. He put up those numbers in one of the most pitcher-friendly leagues in baseball. He'll be facing much more advanced hitters in Spring Training and likely in AA when the Cardinals return him. Something tells me that GB/FB will hurt him.

    His GB/FB worries me a good deal. The Cardinals will return him, but I have to wonder if his confidence will take a hit. The guy I'm looking at? RHP Justin Berg He's a touch on the older side (21) for Peoria last season, but his sinker is excellent and should be a fast mover through the system.

    Carlos Marmol turns 24 this season. Carlos Zambrano turns 25 this season. Let's stop and think about this statement for a moment. Terrific signing by JH, though!

    Brad Wilkerson's career line: .256/.365/.452/.817 He turns 29 next season, fyi. He doesn't have the speed to play CF, but apparently does not have the power to play a corner position.

    Ned Yost is a moron. You know how awesome Dusty is when it comes to bullpen overmanagement, confusing lineups, strange calls, and seemingly no understanding of the game on the field? Yost is equally awesome. The only difference is that he doesn't have much of a problem with playing young players. The hype the Brewers are getting is reminiscent of the hype the Arizona Cardinals got this past offseason in the NFL. Weak division, hungry young talent, etc. Problem is, they're becoming a chic playoff pick before the season. That's like the kiss of death.

    When we had that Q&A with Fleita, I asked him some questions about some of the guys down in Mesa who made positive impressions (I believe it was Puello, Gallagher, and Andy Santana). As memory serves me, he said that Gallagher had a great curve and was going to move fast and that Puello had a nice ceiling as an IF, but needed some time to develop. Santana he didn't say much about...I think. Still, kinda fun to see how his predictions are coming about. :)

    Lots of people on this forum wanted him to fall to the Cubs in the second round, including a couple of people who've seen him firsthand. Pawelek in the first and Veal in the second is a pretty good haul, though. Honestly, from everything I've read and heard about him, I wish him nothing but the best with Boston.
