  1. Mitch Atkins and Sean Gallagher burned down Baseball America headquarters?
  2. I don't care for money as much as years unless one of these big money deals somehow precludes us from getting a big name star in the future. However, that is not the case this offseason, as the Cubs already scooped up the top FA (!) for the first time in what seems like forever. Lilly for four years and $9m per year sounds like a decent deal. I worry a bit about his age (31) and whether or not he'll be able to keep his ERA+ around his career level of 99. Perhaps the move to the NL will be a boon and he'll be able to stay healthy, but we'll see. I wanted a reliable innings eating starter and I think Lilly will fit the bill. The Orioles have some decent prospects (I like Nolan Reimold's upside), but I'm scratching my head over what good trading Jock would do this team for some one like Rodrigo Lopez. The Cubs have a glut of relievers and really do not need to add any more at this point. Moreover, as promising as guys like Loewen, Penn, and Bedard are, I can't see the Orioles parting with them.
  3. It would be, but Felix Pie is waiting in the wings if Lofton's production goes south.
  4. Didn't the CBA extend the Rule V Draft Eligibility by a year?
  5. Man, that was a tough play to watch. So close, yet so far.
  6. Nice job tackling there Florida. Too bad the ball wasn't there when you got to him.
  7. I take back my McFadden/Tomlinson comparison.
  8. im glad gary d. isnt doing big ten games anymore. vern is kinda cool. kinda like keith jax. Bill Simmons' latest column was right with regards to modern attitudes of announcers. These guys act like we're watching the game for them rather than for the game itself. There are some times these guys should clam up. My personal favorite is when they start crying about a penalty and the replay shows it was completely justified...so they either have to stand by it and look like tools or go back on it and equally look like tools. My personal favorite moment of that was when Sean Taylor spit on some one last year in the NFL playoffs and got ejected, only it was not clear at first that he hocked a loogy at the guy. Of course, Paul Maguire and Joe Theismann were going ape over him getting kicked out, talking over the ref who explained why he kicked Taylor out, and missing out on the explanation altogether. Good times, good times. Troy Aikman's varying definitions of pass interference says hi. Joe Buck's life story says hi.
  9. I think both teams are throwing the kitchen sink at each other in this game.

  11. I'm hoping Nebraska scores soon. Rutgers/WVU has been plodding so far and it'd be nice to have another good game to flip to.
  12. Whiny announcers annoy the hell out of me.
  13. That was a heck of a play.
  14. Well now, that was unexpected.
  15. I've said they were over rated all along. Louisville is the team that should be in the game vs Ohio State. If them why not Boise State. I'd pay to see that game. :D
  16. That was one of the best plays I've ever seen a defensive lineman make.
  17. Part of the upside of shoring up the rotation would be giving the Cubs some flexibility when it comes to their young starting pitching. Guys like Marshall and Marmol could make attractive pieces in a deal for a SS or CF.
  18. He actually was Julio Franco's little league coach.
  19. Without Phillip Hughes on the trade table I cannot see any chance of landing Willis even if they include Duncan. Sanchez was arguably Detroit's top pitching prospect and was fairly well-regarded save for his weight and injury issues. He's probably a small distance behind Hughes in the Yankees' system right now, but he's fairly valuable in his own right. He has terrific patience at the plate and developing power. They'd have to sell their farm system in order to keep Hughes, but I could see them pulling off a trade for Willis. They also have Jose Tabata shooting through the minors.
  20. The Yankees have been stocking up on RHPs lately. I know their pitching is suspect, but I'm convinced they have something brewing for this offseason.
  21. I can't wait for the Boston sports media to go completely ape over this deal. They'll drive him out of Boston within two years.
  22. http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/news/story?id=2569280 The headline speaks for itself!
