  1. Wonky inning, but good to see Dempster get out of it.
  2. ROSE OR BEASLEY??? I love Beasley, although I think Rose will be stellar. Tough call.
  3. Frankly, even if the Bulls get the #3 pick, they're in a great spot. Brook Lopez would be an excellent addition and would complement Noah really well.
  4. When are the results posted? Should be in the next few minutes. Meanwhile, Charles Barkley just texted Dwayne Wade during that interview.
  5. The caroms in this ballpark would drive me nuts if I were a hitter. It seems like this place robs its share of extra base hits thanks to lucky bounces.
  6. I think it almost hit him in the booth. He thought it was intentional. If that was intentional, it's right up there with Shawn Estes' attempt at revenge on Roger Clemens.
  7. Quoted for posterity.
  8. Most of the attractive options are SPs who should be available either put up good numbers, but have massive flaws beyond the numbers (Padilla's contract, Harden's injury history), don't strike out enough guys to make you feel all too comfortable with them (hellooooooooooo Jamie Moyer!), play for teams with an insane owner or front office (Daniel Cabrera) or will cost so much in terms of prospects/young players that I sincerely doubt the Cubs have enough ammunition to acquire them (Lincecum, Cain, Sabathia, Olsen). If I had my druthers, I'd happily trade a package involving the top young players in this organization for Sabathia. I'd happily part with a package involving Hill, Gallagher, and Cedeno (among others) for him. However, I think the Indians will be contenders and I also think a number of other teams can trump that package. I think the Cubs will look for a veteran starting pitcher with lots of playoff experience who still has some gas left in the tank. If the Yankees are out of it, I can definitely see Mike Mussina on the Cubs' list. Granted, he's almost 40 years old, but he's doing a decent job in a tough division. Moving to the NL might get his numbers nudged up a tad.
  9. What a shock, it failed horribly.
  10. I'm beginning to wonder if we'll ever see all four teams go undefeated in a day again. This is getting a tad bit ridiculous.

  12. Straw Man Fallacy
  13. Pretty sure Houston did that a couple of years ago thought they had an injury but i could easily be wrong Astros-Yankees in 2003. ESPN's annoyingly gushy recap. Oswalt went down with a groin injury in that game.
  14. Cripes, we're going to have to encase that guy in bubble wrap at the rate things are going. A stiff breeze might snap his spine in two. But hey, Ascanio's up. Sweet! For those of you wondering about him, here are his numbers in AAA. He should be a step up over Fox, that's for sure.
  15. Don 't forget about Jason Schmidt, David Nied, Bruce Chen, Horacio Ramirez, etc, etc, etc... Kevin Millwood! Mike Remlinger! Mike Hampton!
  16. What a great story. But man...130 pitches in a 7 run blowout? That's Dusty-esque.
  17. Updates... Iowa won 5-4. Pie is still hitless. Murton homered. Jason Dubois was listed at 1B for the I-Cubs (!), which leads me to believe that's a typo or the Cubs secretly re-acquired him at some point. Hart went 5 and struck out 6. Tennessee is getting pounded 11-3. Mitch Atkins didn't make it out of the 5th, giving up 6 ER. Daytona won 4-3. Adam Harben had a crappy outing, walking 6 and not making it out of the 4th inning. Peoria got 4 hit and shut out. Cabrera went 5, gave up 5 ER, walked 3, gave up 5 hits, and struck out four.
  18. Off day on Thursday. If Lou is feeling Dusty-like, he can give either or both the day off on Wednesday to give them back to back days to rest.
  19. http://graphics8.nytimes.com/images/2007/03/09/sports/09hamilton_lg.jpg I believe CR was talking about that year's draft. The last "perfect player" to come out was Justin Upton, imo.
