  1. Actually, he did. If you watch the end of the 5 minute clip that was linked earlier this thread, you see him getting angry at the crowd and he gets restrained (full bear hug) by one of his teammates and he has a bat in his hands!!! I remembered reading somewhere last night that somebody in the crowd threw a large pop/beer at Castillo, which caused Castillo to turn around and threaten the fan with a bat.
  2. Even if he were, there's no reason he shouldn't be kicked off the team for that. That's the most ridiculous thing I've ever seen. Who in their right mind would throw a baseball at someone from 5 feet away? I'm actually glad it hit a fan because that means more will be done to him. Just completely insane. Assult with a deadly weapon might be an option. He better hope the fan is ok. Felonious assault charges.
  3. For those of you wondering, no, Julio Castillo is not much of a prospect.
  4. Apparently Castillo was arrested.
  5. This might end up getting moved to the main forum if it becomes big enough news. Castillo throwing the ball at the Dragons was just insane.

  7. I just saw the video. Castillo has to get cut for what he did. I don't care how much a guy gets you angry, you don't chuck a baseball at him at point blank range.
  8. Rich Hill's final line: 5 IP, 1 H, 1 ER, 7/5 K/BB, WP Hill struck out the side in the 5th.
  9. It's one thing to share an opinion. It's another thing to be insulting and condescending. That goes for everyone. Keep this subject on topic, please.
  10. Depending on the forthcoming suspensions, he might be right.
  11. Hill so far: 4 IP, 1 H, 1 ER, 4/5 K/BB, WP.
  12. He's sidearming the ball a bit more than you'd like to see. Z has never been a totally over the top delivery kind of pitcher, though.
  13. You don't know what any of them are going to vote. None of us do but I strongly suspect that Cuban will not get a 75% yes vote from the good old boys club. Based on what? The fact that the owner's won't accept someone who would be incredible for league revenue and who's bid would likely boost the value of their own franchises? Based on the fact that is baseball's responsibility to select an owner who will be a good caretaker of one of the historic franchises in the league and it's ballpark. It was the big reason they did not want Dolan as the owner of the Red Sox even though he had the highest bid. Even bigger was Fenway Park. He now owns the Knicks and look at what a mess he has made of that storied franchise. They will also face one of the nastiest legal battles in recent history. If it turns out Cuban was the highest bidder, had secured all the financing he needed, and presented a realistic bid, but MLB shoots him down, the mess of lawsuits will be unholy. Zell has an army of lawyers. The Tribune's shareholders will have a heck of a case. Cuban, his minority buyers, and financiers also will have their pick of causes of action. If Congress gets involved, the backlash will be terrible for MLB. MLB might have an old boys club, but they would get shredded in court if that happens. It could cost them billions of dollars.
  14. Even if Cuban's worth $2.8b, most of that is almost certainly money he could not easily liquidate and use to buy the Cubs. My guess is he has a handful of minority investors and people providing finance who haven't been publicly named.

  16. Looks like the Diamondbacks forgot to turn the AC on.
  17. I believe Madison Dearborn has been hit pretty hard by the credit crunch. Canning and his group might not have the available resources to put in a billion dollar bid for the Cubs. Deliberately under-bidding for something like this is an absolutely stupid idea, especially considering how Zell has emphasized he wants this done in a tight time timeframe. Canning coming back to him in a week with an extra zero attached to the bid isn't going to look above water on Canning's part, know what I mean? Good to see Cuban has moved on, though! I'm very curious as to the identities of the other bidders.
