  1. My most recent weirdass dream draft scenario that I put together while bored in the office today would be for the Bears to trade back from one of their first round picks, nab an early second rounder, take MHJr and either Latu or Fashanu with their first two picks, and then trade back up into the mid 20s to take McCarthy or Nix if either falls to that range. It's foolproof, I tells ya.
  2. Injuries are inevitable with rotations, sad to say. Even if the Cubs manage to bolster the rotation this offseason with Yamamoto or Imanaga, someone's going to go down with something, or someone is going to need time to deal with dead arm, and that'll be Horton's time. Or hell, maybe the Cubs will tinker with piggybacking him and Wicks or him and Assad to save his innings to get him deeper into September/October. Needless to say, I am legitimately excited for him. His highlight reel from this past season was pure filth, and it's been awhile since the Cubs had a SP prospect of his caliber.
  3. The one thing I don't want is to be having this exact same argument a year from now regarding Fields and Flus/Getsy. If they want to trade Fields, draft Williams, and give a clean slate to Flus/Getsy, fine. Not ideal, but fine. Same goes for them keeping Fields, drafting MHJ, and launching Flus/Getsy into the sun, fine. Also not ideal, but fine. If you want to launch all of them and start over, also also fine.
  4. That's the fun of message boards; you get to debate dumb horsefeathers like this, even when the team sucks. Perry getting waived just adds fuel to the fire.
  5. But it's more fun if we discuss it like a bunch of bored Victorian Era housewives!
  6. Assuming the Bears end up picking Top 5 (i.e. they win, at most, only one more game this season), I just don't see how Kevin Warren can look at this roster and coaching staff, and think that it would be an awesome idea to get the band back together for another run in 2024. Flus is a complete dolt, Getsy's play calling is maddeningly inconsistent, and there's no consensus on whether Fields is a lost cause. Part of me would be fine with keeping Poles and giving him a crack at his own QB and a new coaching staff, but I'm really skeptical about his ability to put together a winning roster.
  7. There's a rumor floating around that Corey Perry's unofficial suspension happened because he took his "father figure to Connor Bedard" role a wee bit too far on the team's most recent road trip.
  8. Oh goody, more short passes.
  9. Burn it to the ground, sow the fields with salt, move the team to London.
  10. And there it is.
  11. Come on, Kyle. We know you want to gloat. Now's your time.
  12. Drip. Drip. Drip. Drip.
  13. This horsefeathers game is going to have a final score of 6-3, isn't it?
  14. Shaw's in such a weird spot in my mind's eye. I kinda agree with Tom that we have a bit of recency bias and SNTS with Shaw in terms of projection/evaluation, but it's not just that he's a recent draftee. He rocketed through the system and hit the crap out of the ball at every stop. I'd lean into the skepticism if Shaw had been drafted and was just decent in an extended South Bend stint, but positive results are positive results. As has been repeatedly stated, though, where things get mucky with Shaw is his future ML position. It's worth pointing out that Shaw is roughly three inches taller than Madrigal, so Shaw's height isn't as much of an issue at 3B as has been raised elsewhere, but Shaw still needs to prove he can pick it there. If he can't, then he'll likely be prime trade bait, which isn't necessarily a bad thing. Sometimes a guy's best value to a team is as a trade piece, and that may very well be Shaw's lot in life.
  15. From what I'm seeing, the 2024 NBA Draft isn't looking like the sort of draft that changes a franchise overnight.. Then again, anyone they draft will either be trash or won't be any good until after the Bulls trade them for pennies on the dollar.
  16. Another prime trade candidate this offseason, but, I agree with the ranking and I would keep him over Alcantara in a hypothetical trade scenario. There's definite bust potential with his swing and miss, but he's been healthy, he showed in-season improvement, and the power potential is seriously impressive. It's also nice that the Cubs can afford to be patient with him. He strikes me as the type who just needs plate appearances against better and better pitching.
  17. If this is going to be anything like the Whote Sox rebuild, we'll find out that Vinny Del Negro has been secretly consulting with Jerry Reinsdorf behind AK's back, resulting in Billy Donovan and the front office getting cleared out in the offseason with Kirk Hinrich being named the new GM and Jimmer Fredette taking over as HC.
  18. Is it actual satire, or the kind of satire where you share a really unpopular opinion, wait to hear the reaction to it, and then claim you're joking when everyone gives you a really dirty look?
  19. If you had told me two years ago that Justin Steele was the ace of the staff in 2023, my response would have been to ask who we were planning on taking #1 overall in the 2024 MLB Draft. Credit where it's due for the pop-up and turnaround, but, none of us saw it coming.
  20. Last night I was listening to The Score and Hub Arkush was on with the later shift. I hadn't been listening to sports radio much lately, but holy crap was he carrying water for Eberflus and company, saying we can't blame the coaching staff when the Bears have the youngest roster in the NFL, they're basically starting this season from scratch, and the coaching staff is still teaching the players how to play football, so we can't blame the coaches for the players' screwups. Gotta protect that access, baby!
  21. I don't see it, in fairness. It'd be one thing if he had TJS two to three years ago and he was building up arm strength and stamina, but I think we're seeing close to the finished product with Wicks. He doesn't look like the type who needs to fill out, either. Granted, I could see him adding a tick to his fastball, but I think doing so wouldn't be that beneficial to him when so much of his repertoire relies on movement and sequencing. If he could consistently maintain 92-94 and keep his movement through 6+ IP, then great, but I think it's more likely we see him mess around with different kinds of fastballs and change ups to offer different looks the second and third time through the order than we see him focusing on throwing harder.
