  1. Bump to demonstrate the new filter. :D
  2. Please please please let it be Pujols People in glass houses, man. If that 2003 list is ever released, I'd get a bad feeling there would be a number of Cubs on there.
  3. He has a plea arrangement in place. We'll know what the terms of that plea agreement are in the near future. More names in exchange for leniency? I'm guessing it was more of a cost/benefit analysis on the everyone's part. Tejada has a lot of money and can hire some really good lawyers. A trial would have been a media circus and could have dragged out in impressive fashion. Tejada could have lost playing time as a result of a trial and could have received some serious penalties if he was found guilty. My gut is that neither side wanted to go to trial and they worked out an arrangement.

  5. Joe Crede's name vaguely interests me. I know he's probably looking for a starting gig and it's unlikely he'd want a bench role. Still, if he'd be willing to play some 1B, he wouldn't make a bad backup option.
  6. Yeah, all the spitballs, "trick" pitches, gambling, throwing games, sharpened cleats, corked bats, pine tar, uppers and on and on and on and on are what made it SO damn pure. That's why I like this book. Rule-breaking happens all the time in baseball and, in some cases, actually makes it a more interesting and compelling game.
  7. I bet Jared Lorenzen isn't taking PEDs. I dunno, I could probably lift a Volkswagen if I downed a gallon of sweet tea and polished off two dozen Krispy Kremes.
  8. What drives me nuts about it more than anything else is how baseball is treated differently from football and basketball. This will ruin A-Rod's reputation. This will only add more ammunition to the people who argue that everyone in baseball is on steroids and is a cheater. It will hurt baseball. However, nobody talks about basketball and football in the same way. Cripes, Shawne Merriman testing positive got very little attention. When the Williams DTs tested positive for a banned substance, everyone automatically believed them when they said it was for a weight loss drug. No one seems to notice when guys in both sports look like they belong in professional wrestling. Frankly, I wouldn't be surprised if the NFL and NBA were just as tainted by the PEDs scandal. Yet, nobody says a freaking thing about it. However, this will lead to another Congressional hearing with another player's career destroyed. It'll be sickening and a waste of money.
  9. Yeesh, what a mess that draft turned out to be. A few of those guys should be fine, but man, a number of them have just plummeted down the toilet.
  10. The problem with that is you can make an argument that pretty much anyone in this system could be in the Top 30. This system is a bit of a mess.
  11. I can dig it. Let's hope he'd be more of a Ryan Dempster than a Wade Miller if the Cubs got him.
  12. I'm convinced that was more of a hot streak than a breakout season. C-Patt went through stretches with the Cubs where it looked like he'd finally put something together, but he'd always fall flat on his face. He had that damn loopy swing and a terrible eye for high fastballs and sliders.
  13. I thought his career was over when he took that line drive off his throwing arm. I never thought he'd see a pitching mound again.
  14. I take this statement to mean that you believe if a RH reliever and a LH reliever have comparable splits against left-handed hitters, you'd prefer to have the LH reliever. Am I wrong in saying this?
  15. He's high on my list of guys I want to see at Peoria this season. He posted interesting numbers down at Boise and is still young enough to develop further.
  16. All of it is speculation. How does anyone know that Lou is now making the decisions for Hendry? It always seemed like Hendry was happy to get Dusty the players Dusty wanted on his team. I wouldn't be surprised if Hendry's M.O. was to rely more heavily on his manager's input than other GMs normally would.
  17. Bullpen candidates on the 40 man Jose Ascanio Mitch Atkins Justin Berg Neal Cotts Chad Gaudin Kevin Gregg Angel Guzman Kevin Hart Aaron Heilman Carlos Marmol Sean Marshall Marcos Mateo David Patton (Rule 5) Jeff Samardzija Jeff Stevens Luis Vizcaino Randy Wells Obviously all of these guys won't be in the bullpen at the start of next season. However, there's a large pool to draw from and Wuertz wasn't the best of them.
  18. Anyone else think the Heilman trade made Wuertz expendable?
  19. Have them all change their names and trick San Diego into trading Peavy for them! I like this idea. I always wanted Jason Heyward in our system!
  20. And virtually no time to get there. I just realized it's weird that guys born in the mid-80's are now approaching ancient prospect status. The stomach tumor thing gives me some hope that he could make a turnaround and recover, but honestly, I don't have much faith in it happening. Frankly, if you're a prospect with a plate discipline problem, this is the wrong system for you.
