  1. Sellers could have been had by anyone in the Rule 5 draft, but no one picked him up. Sounds like Robnett has a nice ceiling, but it sounds like he has a long way to go before becoming a legitimate prospect again.
  2. Guzman was granted another medical exemption and has an option remaining. I know I've seen that here by the most reputable posters, you, Navin, etc, but its disheartening that even cubs.com disagrees. http://mlb.mlb.com/news/article.jsp?ymd=20081214&content_id=3717139&vkey=news_chc&fext=.jsp&c_id=chc&partnerId=rss_chc It is Muskat, but still...I haven't been able to find any links confirming Guzman was granted an extra option year. I checked with the Cubs today. Guzman is indeed out of options. Thank you for the clarification! This has been driving me nuts.
  3. Speaking of full frontal men: http://cdn.kissingsuzykolber.uproxx.com-s1.simplecdn.net/wp-content/uploads/2009/02/boss-nuts.gif
  4. when you said this, were you planning on wieters dying or something I'll still hold to it and own up if I turn out to be wrong.
  5. Wasn't that early in the year in Atlanta? Are you thinking of this game? I was at that game, as well as the game the next night (the infamous Pratt-fall). *Foul ball* *Foul ball* *Foul ball* *Foul ball* *Foul ball* *Foul ball* *Foul ball* *Foul ball* *Foul ball* *Foul ball* *Foul ball* *Foul ball* *Foul ball*
  6. http://blog.seattlepi.nwsource.com/baseball/archives/160872.asp I'm also sure the Giants would love to part with Barry Zito in exchange for Rich Hill.
  7. I believe you're looking for Jake Renshaw. He struggled in High A last season after putting up decent numbers in Peoria while in the Cubs' system. Cripes I hated that trade.
  8. So much for selling high on our once top prospects.
  9. Everyone please take a step back from this thread, take a deep breath, and chill.
  10. Who the heck did you expect the Cubs to get for Rich Hill, Matt Wieters? Nick Markakis. Duh.
  11. Hopefully his hair will still be perfectly coifed.
  12. Like many of you I wonder how this deal effects a potential Peavy trade. As much as I like Marshall, I wouldn't hesitate one bit to include him in a deal for Peavy, now that Olsen is no longer a Cub. Without Marshall, the options for LHPs are sparse. I don't personally think that's a big deal, since we have a number of RHPs who can get lefties out effectively, but Hendry has had way too much of a fascination with handedness this offseason.
  13. Ronny Cedeno has very little value, the Cubs would be lucky to get a mediocre minor league reliever for him. I knew from day one that the Cubs weren't gonna get Cedeno for Heilman straight up. Olson obviously is the guy with the value in this trade, but I don't think he has a ton of value either. People are just pissed off because they thought Olson was part of a Peavy deal. But nobody ever said we had to have Olson to get Peavy. Heilman's going to be 30 years old next season and saw his production fall off a cliff last year thanks to a loss of control, which prompted speculation about his health. He hasn't started a game in the majors since 2005. I don't think he is better than Olson, quite frankly. That's the part of this deal that doesn't make much sense to me.
  14. Cedeno for Heilman would have been an okay trade. Olson for Heilman would have been a bleh trade, but it wouldn't have been terrible. Cedeno and Olson for Heilman, on the other hand...not so good. I'm at least hoping the Mariners kicked a B-level prospect back our way.
  15. i think it was more about getting heilman than getting rid of cedeno/pie. hendry has a long history of being interested in him. Another excuse for me to hate Notre Dame? Excellent.
  16. Maybe the Padres are just trying to screw with the Cubs now. "You know who we really want for Peavy? Augie Ojeda!"
  17. I'm really hoping ESPN screwed this up and not Bruce Levine.
  18. http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/news/story?id=3866647 That better not be true What the hell?
  19. Any word on who the minor league pither is? I doubt it would be Atkins, Jackson, or Rhee. Hope not anyway. Jackson can't be traded until summer. My hope is that the Cubs threw someone like JR Mathes at the Mariners.
  20. I believe Olson from the O's is a lefty. correct me if im wrong. You are correct.
  21. Considering this team goes ga-ga over handedness, that's a good point. There aren't many candidates down in the minors who could immediately step in and be an effective lefty out of the pen, either.
  22. That's exactly my thought on this potential deal. That, or the Padres may prefer taking Heilman instead of Marshall in a Peavy deal.
  23. This has been a very strange offseason to me. There have been a number of free agents on the market who are still out there, despite being talented and worth a good contract. I've seen speculation here and on other boards that the reason for this is because teams are unwilling to give up draft picks as compensation. So, I have a few questions. Should the current system of draft compensation for free agents be abolished? Should it be modified? Or would you keep it the same? I'm curious to see what everyone else has to say.
  24. Probably in the AZ League. If he starts in Boise or Peoria, then we can get really excited about him.
