    What makes you think Scott Downs, Jason Frasor, or any of the other potentially available relievers will be legitimately good? Downs struggled with injury problems last year and Frasor is coming off of a career year after three years of being a tick above average.

    Where I once wouldn't have been surprised to see Cashner in the bullpen come Opening Day, now I pretty much expect it.

    While they had the second fewest SB attempts, I'd love to know how they compared with the rest of the majors in hit & run attempts.

    Which is a bit ridiculous. He's got two very good pitches in his pitcher and slider, along with a changeup that's developing but supposed to be halfway decent. Comparing him to Kerry Wood is not something I'd wholly recommend, though. Also, it's worth pointing out that Cashner wasn't a full-time reliever during his time as an amateur. As memory serves me, he spent two seasons in junior college as a starting pitcher, but ended up moving to closer when he transferred to TCU for his junior season.

    Considering Latham is a professional athlete, I'm guessing he has insurance or has deep enough pockets to cover that kind of damage. He's a moron and deserved to be punished through criminal and civil means, as well as by the Cubs, but I really don't see this kind of an act as unforgivable. You can speculate all you want, but it's basically just that...speculation. Maybe if he had someone in the car with him, he would have paid better attention and avoided this accident. Maybe that friend would have taken his keys away. Maybe he would have crashed into a truck carrying nuclear weapons, causing a massive explosion that would have wiped out most of Boise. None of those things happened. There's no point in castigating him for what didn't happen.

    On the upside, the Cubs actually seem to have enough pitching depth in the upper minors to shore up the bullpen from within if anything happens to Guzman.

    Jae Kuk Ryu hung around in the system for awhile after the osprey incident. The same can be said for Andy Sisco, assuming the story about him getting into a fight with Ryu is true.

    They have one of the best farm systems in all of baseball if not the best and they have Jason Heyward who is going to be a star. Well, outside of Freddie Freeman I can't really think of many other offensive threats besides Heyward in their system. They've got a couple pitchers in the wings who are supposed to be good... Arodys Vizcaino and another guy... forgot his name though. Outside of those guys (and maybe one or two others I'm forgetting) I think the drop off is pretty steep Most of their good pitching prospects have limited experience above High A. Mike Minor might get a callup this season depending on how he develops, but he doesn't have the makings of an impact pitcher. Plus, Freeman had a wrist injury and is a bit of a question mark going into this season.

    Lee has very little patience? Granted, he's only played one season of low-A ball, but he walked 31 times in 304 plate appearances (10.2 % of the time). That's not that bad. Lee also has less power than Castro. Lee's IsoP last year was .090. Castro's IsoP last year was .093. Then in the AFL it was .099. Having watched Lee thanks to Boise putting its home games up on the internet, I feel comfortable in saying Lee's power numbers have been inflated due to his excellent speed. Castro currently is a much safer bet to hit 10-15 HRs a year than Lee is.

    I'll go with a win total in the low 80s, with the team being in contention until August, and then slowly falling out of it.
