  1. I'm holding off on my next one until after the MLB Draft signing deadline. Baez will definitely crack my Top 10 and Vogelbach might. However, if I'm doing a Top 20 or Top 30, guys like Maples, Jacquez, Dunston, and Zych will get serious consideration if they sign.
  2. Micah Gibbs' Twitter feed has turned into a [expletive] Cam Greathouse says feed. It's fantastic.
  3. What's everyone's opinion of Evan Crawford? I feel like he's gotten lost in the shuffle with the number of high-end CF prospects the Cubs have in their system. He's not hitting for any meaningful power, but he's probably the fastest guy in the system, hitting the ball very well, and drawing a good number of walks. I don't think I'd put him in my personal Top 10, but I feel like he has not gotten as much attention as he deserves.
  4. Sounds like Jacquez is signable, which is good news. Link

  6. He's definitely been a disappointment. He had a strong second half last year and has failed to build off that. Adding on to what Raisin said, Raley when he was drafted profiled as a somewhat fringy LHP, as he was a two-way player in college. The thought was, with a full-time commitment to pitching, Raley's stuff and performance could improve and he'd have a shot at being a middle of the rotation type of pitcher. Aside from his second half last season, that really does not seem to be the case with him. He still has time, but the results so far have been lackluster, overall.
  7. Sounds like we got our first signing. 42nd Rounder SS Brad Zapenas
  8. While I'm glad to see the Cubs talk about spending to acquire talent in the draft, I'm reserving my optimism until the signing deadline. If the Cubs sign a bunch of guys and end up spending $9m-$10m, then awesome. If they only sign Baez and Vogelbach out of the likely overslots and end up spending only $5m...that'll be a problem.

  10. He was the prospect I was most upset about losing. I had envisioned a middle infield of Lee and Castro for the next decade. You need to give up talent to get talent--and Garza is a legit talent--but three top guys (and assorted whatnots) is too much. Archer and one other top guy I could have dealt with. Both Lee and Guyer (I believe in Guyer) hurt too much. Garza's been one of the best pitchers in the NL this year, leading in K/9 and FIP while putting up very good numbers in HR/9, xFIP, and WAR. I can understand wanting to develop prospects, but the Cubs got a great deal on a young guy they'll have under team control for the foreseeable future. Plus, regarding Archer...I'm really beginning to wonder how much we overrated him last year. He put up fantastic numbers in 72+ IP, showing great control, but he slipped in Tennessee. His strikeout and HR numbers were good, but his control issues creeped back into the picture. His walk and HR numbers have regressed substantially this year. Perhaps the Cubs knew this past offseason was the best time to sell high on him?

  12. Good Day 2. Most people have covered Vogelbach in great detail, so I'll just say that I really like the pick. Taylor Scott is really intriguing, given his background. Dugas is a really underrated hitter who should sign soon and could be a quality 4th OF in a short period of time. Maples and Dunston are the two guys I'd love to see signed.
  13. Welp, two of my favorite candidates for the Cubs' second round pick just went off the board in Jace Peterson and Grayson Garvin. I'd love to think the Cubs would pony up for Norris, Purke, or Bell, but that doesn't fit their MO. I'm thinking Jason Espisito will be the pick if he's there. I'd like that.

  15. Panik's a head-scratcher. I would have liked him as a second round pick for the Cubs, but where he went in a draft like this, egh. Great name, though.
  16. I hear Kolten Wong's hero is Aaron Miles, so the reaction is probably merited.
  17. More negative [expletive] in the wrong thread, no less. Get rid of this guy The mods are having a feats of strength tournament to determine who gets to ban JeffH. So far, Fred's in the lead after the keg toss. Dude's buff.
  18. Darn. I kind of liked Kolten Wong. Now he sucks and I hope he falls off a bridge.
  19. Apparently Chris Reed's signing bonus will come from a hat being passed around Dodger Stadium.
  20. We'll have to wait and see how the supplemental 1st shakes out, which might take awhile considering the Rays have like eight billion picks between now and the end of today.
  21. I think I'd slot Javier Baez in at #4 on my list, assuming he signs.
  22. Rounds 2-30 tomorrow, 31-50 Wednesday.
