  1. Teams are set. Have at it. NLDS: Phillies in 4, Milwaukee in 5 ALDS: Tigers in 5, Rangers in 5 NLCS: Brewers in 7 ALCS: Tigers in 6 World Series: Tigers in 5 I just know I'm going to end up being horribly, horribly wrong. However, I really like Verlander/Fister and I think the Tigers are well-balanced.
  2. So, when the 50 for 50 Documentary on the 2011 Miami Heat's failures against the Mavericks comes out in 20 years, will it feature 20 minutes' worth of material on Carl Crawford?
  3. That needs to be a middle finger now.
  4. We're now clear to talk to him! Also: http://sadtrombone.com/
  5. Boston just blew it with two outs in the 9th. Mwahahahahahahahaha
  6. With the Cardinals. I was actually going to have a controlled demolition of Busch Stadium with the entire team inside (minus Cub first baseman Albert Pujols obviously). And then have someone drunk drive over the rubble. I nominate Aaron Miles to defecate on the ruins.
  7. This night [expletive] sucks.
  8. The Bill Simmons meltdown will be awesome.
  9. And Hannibal Lecter. And a kitty cat. And what appears to be Leisure Suit Larry.
  10. Had a pretty big game last year vs. Ohio St. They'll beat Nebraska. They are a better team and at home in a night game. Yeah, don't get me wrong, they've had bigger games than this one, but I've really been looking forward to it for awhile. I'm not sure how this game will play out, but I really like how both teams match up and I also really like the odds of a rematch happening come December in Indianapolis.
  11. I have to go to a wedding and subsequent reception...meaning, unless I find a TV, I'm going to miss one of the biggest Badgers games in years. [expletive].
  12. The problem I have with scenario is that Baker's production is on the wrong side of the platoon. Per Baseball Reference this year, RHPs have faced 72,047 batters, while LHPs have faced 23,593 batters. Roughly speaking, that .650 hitter would be at the plate 2/3 of the time, which would be a problem for the Cubs' offense.
  13. Dopirak never took walks like Golden does. However, the near 30% K rate with Golden is a serious red flag, especially given that he accumulated those numbers in short season A.
  14. How would it be a near-certainty? Wilson will be the most heavily pursued SP in the offseason, with teams like the Yankees and Angels after him. Fielder will likely get interest from the Orioles, Rangers, Nationals, and possibly Mariners. The Marlins are also looming for both, especially since they have a new stadium. Those are all teams with the resources to match any offer the Cubs put out there. I'd say the odds of the Cubs missing both is a heck of a lot higher than slim. If the Cubs are operating under that assumption, they're playing with fire.
  15. Nobody is. I, and others, are arguing that the Cubs should pursue both of them and since the Cubs have as much or more money to spend than any other team, they have a chance to land both. It's a risk, but standing pat with the current team (or something close to it) isn't going make us any better next year or going forward. The problem is timing. The Cubs have a limited window in which they can exclusively negotiate with Ramirez for a potential long term contract. After that period of time, it's open season on Ramirez. If Ramirez opts out and hits the open market, there's a risk that Ramirez could be signed away by another team before Fielders and Wilson are signed. In that scenario, the Cubs would have to go for broke if they have any hopes of competing in 2012. To put it bluntly, I'd rather the Cubs take the risk that they stand pat over the risk that they end up substantially worse next season.
  16. Why are people assuming the Cubs get Wilson and Fielder if Ramirez walks?
  17. That made me nauseous. Wow.
  18. Did the chat address which Cubs just missed the list?
  19. And with that, I'm done for the season. Thanks for the fun times, everyone!
  20. Larry Merchant's post-match interview (NSFW language) was hilarious.
  21. Sounds like they're going to be playing that sucker at midnight. Awesome.
  22. Rosenthal thinks the Reds will at least be open to offers. I'm having a really hard time envisioning what kind of package could net him.
