  1. That part sounds promising.
  2. Pretty much, although he's had some minor shoulder and elbow soreness in the past. The Tigers shut him down immediately, though, and he seems no worse for wear from it.
  3. I'd love Drabek as a buy low candidate. I think the Jays mishandled him last year. He's young, the talent's there, and a change of scenery could do him a lot of good. i don't really see how they mishandled him. he pitched well in the upper minors and in his major league cup of coffee in 2010, so he started 2011 with the jays. they gave him enough opportunity in the majors but he sucked balls, so they sent him to las vegas where he continued to suck balls. i think the only really debatable part is whether he should've been called back up for bullpen work in september. What bothered me was they skipped him directly from AA to the majors to start 2011. He did really well in AA in 2010 and performed well enough in his cup of coffee in 2010. Given that he'd be pitching in the AL East, I was hoping the Jays would have started him in AAA in a hitter-friendly environment (Las Vegas). The yo-yoing that happened in 2011 didn't help, either. He clearly has control issues and they need to be worked out. But, again, he's the kind of young player I'd like to see included in a trade.
  4. I think so. Going by memory, here's what we gave up and roughly what they were valued at the time: RHP Chris Archer – B/B+ pitcher at the time, depending on whether you valued his upside or were worried about his control issues SS Hak-Ju Lee – B/B- prospect with A- upside; great glove, good bat, questionable power, huge potential OF Brandon Guyer – C+ prospect – Solid 4th OF, maybe a decent starting corner OF in his prime Robinson Chirinos/Sam Fuld – Two C-level prospects who were filler with good backup potential Keep in mind the Cubs got Fernando Perez and Zach Rosscup from the Rays in addition to Garza. Still, I think the Cubs could get a package better than that for Garza.
  5. I'd love Drabek as a buy low candidate. I think the Jays mishandled him last year. He's young, the talent's there, and a change of scenery could do him a lot of good. I don't want a package around him, but if the Jays were to offer a package involving Marisnick, Nicolino, and Drabek for Garza, I'd be tempted. I'd want Sydergaard or McGuire instead of Drabek, but I wouldn't turn my nose up at him.
  6. Sonnanstine fell off a cliff after 2008. A change of scenery might help him, but this is pretty much a roll of the dice kind of deal for the Cubs.
  7. This needs to be repeated. Marshall's been an excellent relief pitcher for the Cubs, but they were not going to get anything for him in terms of draft compensation following this season. Frankly, if they held onto him and a deal fell through at the deadline, they'd be stuck with Marshall with nothing to show for it. It's part of the reason the Papelbon signing was so damn hilarious after the new CBA was announced. I like Marshall and it sucks to see him go, but considering the Cubs traded him for a young, cost-controlled pitcher and two prospects, this is actually a pretty good deal. On the flip side, the Cubs will be able to re-sign Marshall after next season without having to give up any draft picks if they so choose.
  8. Wood is a seriously intriguing buy low candidate...but trading Marshall for him straight up would be too much for me.
  9. Carimi, too. He was starting to show some promise at the beginning of the season, but when he went down, it was the first domino to fall for the OL. Bleh, and I was having fun watching this team, too. Hanie's been bad, but his surrounding cast sure as hell hasn't helped him.
  10. Would we even be able to match that type of deal? If we included Castro in a deal, yes. If we're just talking about guys in our system, no. I'd put Grandal and Alonso ahead of Brett Jackson.
  11. http://geeksploit.files.wordpress.com/2009/05/vlcsnap-156702.png?w=377&h=329 Stay out of my territory.
  12. we can consolidate the list a bit and just say roy williams ohpleaseohpleaseohpleaseohplease
  13. Our long national nightmare is over.
  14. Gaffney launching himself into that Patriots fan's lap was funny, though.
  15. Just happened with Grossman, too. 7-0 Patriots.
  16. I wonder if the Diamondbacks would be amenable to including Goldschmidt in a trade for Garza? H'se put up excellent numbers in the minors, plus held his own during his stint in the majors this season. It's too bad the 2011 draftees can't be traded. One of Bauer, Bradley, or Chafin would be fantastic.
  17. I know Wisconsin has QB issues beyond Wilson, but I think Crist would just add numbers to those issues, not solve any. Quantity would be welcome at this point. Wisconsin has done a miserable job of recruiting and developing QBs, and their current crop is not pretty after Wilson. Crist would fall into their recent pattern, especially considering Tolzien and Wilson started somewhere else. Crist may not be very good, but he's probably better than anyone else the Badgers have right now.
  18. I would like to take the opportunity to thank the Colorado Rockies for drafting Russell Wilson and signing him, which ultimately led NC State to releasing Wilson. Far and away, he's the best QB I've ever seen on the Badgers. If he were four or five inches taller, I'd have to think he would be getting serious first round consideration in the NFL Draft. Oregon is going to be a hell of an opponent in the Rose Bowl. I don't have a great feeling about the game, but at least Ball and Wilson should give the Badgers a chance if the game turns into a shootout.

He clearly made contact with the punter well after the ball was away. He disengaged from the blocker and went for the punter well after the ball was punted away, resulting in contact and a five yard flag. The refs got it right.
  20. Considering the FA market is absolutely wretched at 3B this offseason, rolling the dice with Stewart wouldn't be a bad move. He'd at the very least be an upgrade over DeWitt.
  21. I'm not a huge fan of giving Capuano anything more than a one year deal with something like a vesting option for a second year based on IP. Regarding Wei Yin Chen, do you know if he's declared free agency yet? Apparently he has that option available if he wants to jump to the other side of the pond.
  22. From the Fan Graphs article: Works for me! Oakland's park has an insane amount of foul territory, to boot, so hopefully the move to Wrigley will help his numbers.
