  1. I'm in that boat too. I don't think Theo will ultimately deal for Darvish, but look at what a rental like JD Martinez brought back. He was about a 1-1.5 WAR improvement for the DBacks and they gave up nothing outside of Dawel Lugo. So, even while assuming that a front line SP will be a little more valuable because you can adjust his usage more than a position player, Darvish won't cost someone off the 25 man roster. I agree with you on value, but once you start discussing trading prospects, basically every contender can blow us out of the water. If Darvish only cost the remaining scraps of our farm system, I'd be absolutely shocked and overjoyed.
  2. Darvish would tie Quintana for the lowest starter FIP on the team, so I think it would be a pretty great addition. I also think we'll be easily outbid. Lester-Quintana-Darvish-Hendricks-Arrieta. Ya, that would do. Who do you drop for a playoff series? Almost has to be Arrieta, right?
  3. Happ in July: .283/.345/.547 with a 8.6% BB% and a 19.0% K% for a 129 wRC+. Importantly, this seems to be a real set of adjustments and not just a hot streak. O-swing% (highly negatively correlated with BB%) is trending down: http://i.imgur.com/urLiMHi.png?1 And Contact% (highly negatively correlated with K%) is trending up: http://i.imgur.com/HvIHkaD.png?1 If he can continue to make these adjustments he could turn into a really special hitter.
  4. The past week has moved the division odds up 33% on 538 (29->62) and 27% on Fangraphs (53->80).
  5. These Pirates announcers are terrible. "Is there any magic left in the bag? ... There is magic left in the bag."
  6. I don't know, he's got twos of accounts agreeing with him. You think that kind of support is just made up?
  7. Seems like a good time to check in on everyone's favorite AAA player. Good Schwarber ('15) HRs: http://i.imgur.com/yuDpkrV.png Average spray angle of 8 degrees (center = 0, right foul line = 45), wRC+ = 132. In other words, he's at his best when he's using the whole field. Bad Schwarber, April and May '17 HRs: http://i.imgur.com/QMWOZEo.png Average spray angle of 25 degrees, wRC+ = 65. Since June 1: http://i.imgur.com/VWPmMgY.png Average spray angle of a whopping 1 degree, wRC+ = 139. Small sample and all, but I'm guessing this was a big part of the approach changes the FO was looking for.
  8. Uh, yeah; he was busted when Michael Skarn's IP matched HendrysWallet and PetermanRealityTour. NOT SKARN TOO Please tell me Bert Macklin is innocent in all this
  9. Somehow it just all hit me when I realized there were no other games on the scoreboard
  10. this team is the best
  11. I suppose this could be dispersed among all the player threads, but the coaching staff has done an amazing job getting everyone to cut down on strikeouts (something that's been concerning for most of them for a long time). Baez: 30% 2015 K% -> 23.5% in 2016 Bryant: 30.6% -> 21.8% Russell: 28.5% -> 20.2% Soler (even as awful as he's looked): 30% -> 22.6%
  12. A three game sweep of Pittsburgh followed by a four game sweep of Washington is pretty great, and it's going to be even greater when we do it again in October.
  13. get off the field plz defense
  14. With a 20.9 K% and 9.3 BB%. ^ ie the lowest and near highest, respectively (on a monthly basis) at Iowa ^
  15. I just got out of a meeting and pulled up mlb.tv and was so busy watching the replay of the 3 HRs that I missed Schwarber's most recent #firstworlddongproblems
