  1. Im gonna go with the top five being 1. Aiken 2. Jackson 3. Rodon 4. Pentecost 5. Kolek
  2. Conforto sounds an awful lot like Tyler Colvin.
  3. Dallas Beeler has looked sharp through 7.
  4. Baez single to right on a fastball
  5. Baez with a second double to right this time.
  6. Sure [expletive] looks like it He hit it over the second deck at Dell Diamond...
  7. Baez with a 375 foot 2B with two strikes in his first AB
  8. I agree with this guy. It's not uncommon for pitchers, especially young ones, to see variability in their velocity from year to year. It can be due to fatigue playing year round, poor workout regiment, or they're trying to pitch more finesse. I agree that it is something worth noting, but right now. I personally think Rodon's pedigree, current (still good) performance and overall future potential warrants him to be the top pick. If not, fantastic. Mark my words, barring a catastrophic injury or obscene bonus demands, the Cubs wont pass on him.
  9. I thought 19, 20 year old KWood before his first surgery used to hit 100 when he dialed it up. I think he was more in the 97mph and lower range during his 02-04 seasons.. Unrelated but one of the things I've always wanted to look into is the relationship between velocity and pitcher extension. Throwing 97 instead of 100 might only be a 3% dip in reaction time, but so is releasing the pitch 2 feet further out in front. I've always thought Woody got huge extension towards the plate.
  10. Yeah? Eh, I'm just not sure Strop will be consistent enough to be more than bullpen fodder. I do like Rondon and especially Grimm though.
  11. Did you watch the 9th inning?
  12. Even Baez would have been jealous of that shot.
  13. Any particular reason Baez was pulled other than sucking?
  14. Bryant starts off with a homer and more importantly Baez with a walk. Good start to the season.
  15. Iowa for Baez's 4-5 PA's. Smokies whenever Baez isn't batting.
  16. Through 3 innings Jose Fernandez has more K's (6) than balls (5).
  17. We traded a guy who wasn't going to play for us after two months when we were like 40-70 and had no playoff aspirations. The fact that we got two guys who have a chance to be above average, if not fantastic franchise cornerstones, MLB starters in Olt and Edwards and two other guys who could be quality role players in Grimm and Ramirez is why the trade is phenomenal. It can be all potential and possibilities and still be seen that way, even if it doesn't work out. I mean what are the odds none of the four become useful? (Essentially zero). What were the odds that Garza was going to become useful to the cubs? (Essentially zero)
  18. Scott Feldman last spring: 20 IP, 11.25 ERA, 17/6 K/BB, 7 HR good call. i feel like there used to be a strong consensus that we should make fun of people who paid attention to spring training stats. i feel like that has kind of dwindled. let's bring it back! it has nothing to do with his spring training stats. His mlb career speaks for itself.
  19. Scott Feldman last spring: 20 IP, 11.25 ERA, 17/6 K/BB, 7 HR Semi-related note, in searching for this I found that Feldman is the Astros opening day starter, which blows my mind. When was the last time a guy with 10 career starts or less was an opening day starter? In other thoughts... Carrie Muskat interviews suck. Did she really think Wada was in the mix? No wonder her articles suck. No Olt to Iowa.
  20. Jason Hammel sucks.
  21. No K's, lot's of BB's and quite a few Hr's. I don't care if he's 22, I'd avoid him completely unless we acquired him for someone like Brett Jackson.
  22. http://m.mlb.com/video/topic/6479266/v31593231/chccol-baezs-solo-homer-trims-the-deficit-to-two ahahahaha "that was really, really far" Baez now with an all-around absurd .316/.316/.789/1.105 line this spring. I'd like to see a walk or something though. This. It's hard to imagine Baez having a higher offensive upside than Alfonso Soriano until he begins showing more patience. No doubt the power/slg will be there, but he will probably never become a pretty good obp guy. He'll hit a lot of homers, strike out a lot, and probably get out frequently. Of course, if he has Soriano-like offensive numbers while contributing more on defense at SS/2B/3B he's going to be a good player.
