  1. Were the games before the last 33 retroactively changed to exhibitions? That'd be odd. J/K, that's encouraging. He's been better. Yup. I think Schwarber has a chance to be a wonderful offensive bat in the mold of a Nick Johnson (when he was healthy) or Sean Casey or Wally Joyner type 'professional hitter' type guy but I like to see that translate to the high minors first. That being said, I think he and Soler are our most promising prospects in that style. 2014 Rizzo too.
  2. And his line would be worse than his Hi A line. And his Double A line. And his Triple A line.
  3. Even if he hits his career line in the majors, that's a fantastic offensive MIF.
  4. I love Schwarber as much as the next guy, but Alcantara is a guy who can play short or second and has an ops in excess of 800 in each of the last two years as a 21 and 22 year old in AA and AAA, respectively.
  5. So who hits more home runs for Iowa this year Baez or Bryant?
  6. ...or they thought Schwarber was just better. Period.
  7. But the big bat was getting full slot. Maybe Schwarber is too? (not really) Well Schwarber may have been their #2 like they said. If you think about the tools they value, it's not hard to realize that may not be a lie at all (for better or worse). If they can sign him below slot, even better.
  8. I hope so. I love the White Sox draft so far. Disappointed that the Cubs seem to be going cheap. I like Schwarber much more than Rodon - especially considering money. This pick? Wondering about the strategy. Well it's well in line with the Cubs drafting strategy last year. Draft a big bat early and draft college pitching consistently with the rest of the top ten rounds.More of a question of why that pitcher Well judging by MLB.com's college starters the choices were 44. Matt Imhof 48. Chris Oliver 58. Zech Lemond* 71. Spencer Turnbull 72. Jake Stinnett 73. Bryce Montes de Oca** * Kind of a starter... ** Also a senior So really there weren't a lot of options. So he was one of the top five college SPs, probably number four.

  10. Scouting Grades: Fastball: 60 | Slider: 55 | Changeup: 40 | Control: 50 | Overall: 50College seniors have done well with the new Draft rules as teams try to find ways to strategically use their bonus pools. Stinnett has the chance to be the first senior to come off the board in 2014. Originally a two-way player who played third base for the Terrapins, Stinnett started focusing on pitching only as a junior in 2013. He's really taken off this season, showing a jump in velocity up into the mid 90s with plenty of sink. His slider has greatly improved, flashing as a plus pitch. His changeup is behind the other two, but he has shown some feel for it. The focus on pitching has helped his command, and he's able to pitch to both sides of the plate. There is some effort to his delivery, but not enough to make a team think he can't start. College seniors typically are value picks, but Stinnett has the chance to go in the early rounds based on his size and stuff alone.
  11. Probably not an option for us by like Gatewood, Davidson and especially Wall for HS bats at that pick. Well probably go with an arm though, Bukauskas could also remain on the board.
  12. If you aren't middle infield or third already in college it is very unlikely you can pick up third to pro standards. Josh Donaldson.
  13. 1. Albert Almora, CF 2. Javier Baez, 3B 3. Anthony Rizzo, 1B 4. Kris Bryant, RF 5. Kyle Schwarber, LF 6. Starlin Castro, SS 7. Who Cares, 2B 8. Who Cares, C So sad for Soler, though I like the strategy. Odds are one of Schwarber, Bryant, Almora, Baez and Soler falls on their face.
  14. Has anyone done the math to figure out what time the cubs next pick will be.
  15. The fact that Reynolds doesn't like Schwarber means he is good What was Reynolds thoughts on Baez, Almora and Bryant?
  16. The plate discipline excites me more.
  17. 114 BB. 89 K. 39 HR. About damn time we have a guy who knows how to walk.
  18. Or Touki Okay now seeing Rodon's personality...
  19. He's a pitcher. All pitchers get hurt. Kolek is a 100% lock for TJS
