  1. You said it raw, this team has played up to expectations. Talented but flawed team, especially on the offensive side of the ball. They played 2 very beatable teams and they won both (barely). They are much better than the pundits were giving them credit for (way too many outsiders had them in the 3-5 win range), but they probably won't go 12-4 again. This is another winnable game...and honestly the next 4 are winnable depending on what you think of TB so far. If they can win 3 of 4 and start 5-1 they have some cushion going into the much tougher part of the schedule. 9-7 should make it in with 3 wild card spots.
  2. On paper the Phillies are one of the scariest potential opponents in the first round, but Nola either has to pitch on short rest one of his next two starts or be held back for a game 3. Add the injuries to their hitters and their laughably bad pen and maybe they're the opponent we should he rooting for. I'm more worried about our potential opponent's hitters than pitchers. With our offense we're probably not going to score a ton of runs regardless of who we are facing. Of potential playoff teams, only the Indians offense has performed worse than ours with regards to wRC+ and wOBA over the course of this admittedly short season, and their performance has gotten worse as the season has gone on.* But if our pitching can shut down the opponent's offense, we are in a good position to advance. *yes I still hold out hope that the team's collective talent can get it together and then we are a legit scary team.
  3. I’m assuming that “a result” means that the game is completed regardless of who wins? Wouldn’t that mean that the Cubs will be in with a win regardless?
  4. My ideal outcome is the Cardinals have to play that double header Monday vs the Tigers and then we get them as the 6/7 being the 2/3 seed, Reds finish as the 8 seed and the pitching wipes out the Dodgers round 1. That’s not a bad outcome. I still don’t want the Cubs to play the Cardinals in round 1. Mostly because I’m a wuss and since I don’t think the Cubs are going to win the World Series this year, I’d rather root for avoiding any chance of the Cardinals knocking us off even if I know strategically it is probably the better option
  5. At this point I think I’m rooting for the Cardinals/Reds to pass the Marlins for the 5 seed. I have absolutely no appetite for playing an NL Central team in the WC round. The Braves have the Marlins and Red Sox to finish the year while it looks like the White Sox are going to be fighting for the division this weekend, so I think it’s likely the Cubs drop to the 3rd seed, almost locking in a series with the Cardinals or Reds
  6. This pitcher should be released immediately and possibly tar and feathered for giving up 3 runs in an inning to the Cubs
  7. If it's a table labeled "Really Stupid Ideas," sure, it's on it. Seriously. If you can get even a 3 win season from Bryant he’s underpaid at $22m. Sure he could continue to flame out and/or get hurt but it’s much more likely he’s a 3+ win player. Not to mention if he’s doing ok but not great you can get something for him at the deadline if you want. If you non-tender him he probably goes to the Cardinals and gives them an 8 win season
  8. Lester last 3 starts: 17 IP, 2 ER. His FIP is probably like 6.00 during that span but whatever
  9. Woah 2 runs and 4 hits? Save some for the rest of the series guys! Great work against a guy with an ERA close to 5 for the year.
  10. The lack of power is the most concerning. If you can’t sing and you can’t drive in RISP you are bound to suck badly
  11. Cubs offense since September 3rd (17 games): .213 BA (28/30) .297 OBP (22/30) .314 SLG (30/30 - next closest is the Tigers at .327) 68 wRC+ (27/30) .273 wOBA (28/30) 0.2 WAR (24/30) 25.8% K rate (24/30) 8.5% BB rate (18/30) 9 HR (30/30 - next closest is the Tigers/Indians with 12 HR) 55 total runs (29/30) How about individual players? Here are the wRC+ of players with at least 25 PA: Contreras - 129 Kipnis - 121 Heyward - 120 - - - - - - - Bote - 74 Hoerner - 73 Maybin - 69 Bryant - 61 Caratini - 60 Happ - 60 Javy - 47 Rizzo - 28 Schwarber - 15 17 games isn't a very large sample size in the grand scheme of things, but its crazy to see just how terrible this team has been at offense for the last 3 weeks.
  12. Good to see Bryant continue to drop. Ultimately it doesnt matter if no one else on the team is hitting but if Happ and others get it going again it would be great to not have a bottom 10 hitter in baseball this year plopped right in the middle.
  13. I'm almost certain he would be pulling the same horsefeathers even with a good QB under center. I think its just ingrained in his mentality that you go conservative with a 2nd half lead and a strong defense. It's the same mentality that caused him to lose his 1st game as coach against GB, and he obviously hasn't learned because he's still doing it. he lost a playoff game his last game with KC going uber conservative in the 2nd half up by 17. I realize KC had lost their TE that game, but one player (all-pro or not) shouldn't have that much of an impact especially since now we've seen him do it across teams and portions of the season https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2017_Kansas_City_Chiefs_season#AFC_Wild_Card_Playoffs:_vs._(#5)_Tennessee_Titans Ahh yeah I forgot about that. But I believe Reid actually took playcalling duties away from Nagy before the playoffs. I'm sure he had major influence in the gameplan but maybe not as much in game adjustments. At the very least, this was the last "lesson" he should have learned from Reid.
  14. Thats...wow. Good to see. I did notice that he's been throwing into that intermediate range much more frequently and figured its a product of better pass protection, but he's also not checking down early as frequently as he was in the past. And good to see that PFF apparently doesn't think those INTs yesterday were necessarily bad ones as his overall grade was still high
  15. Andy also likes coaching great quarterbacks he trusts. Nagy is coaching a middling QB he does not trust in the least. but thats the horsefeathering problem, when the O is wide open Mitch seems to play better; when Nagy pulls back, Mitch falters. Nagy has zero reasons to hold the offense back I'm almost certain he would be pulling the same horsefeathers even with a good QB under center. I think its just ingrained in his mentality that you go conservative with a 2nd half lead and a strong defense. It's the same mentality that caused him to lose his 1st game as coach against GB, and he obviously hasn't learned because he's still doing it.
  16. Yeah its a 2 QB keeper league and I drafted Lamar and Kyler last year in the 4th and 6th rounds. In every draft we have QBs get taken en masse in the first few rounds because there's a scarcity. I'm talking guys like Matt Ryan going in the first round. By being able to lock in my QBs, I was able to grab Zeke and Adams in the first 2 rounds and was finding value throughout the draft. Suck though that you can only keep them for 1 season, so I'll be back to the drawing board next year.
  17. 12 hits but your point still stands. The Cubs were so bad I forgot how to do math
  18. Don’t think he will entertain an extension after this year. No way the FO offers him what he’s looking for after this season and I’m sure KB is confident enough in his abilities to decide to play out his contract, have a bounce back year and try the FA market. And if he sucks next year, that sucks but he’ll take a 1-2 year prove it contract and rebuild his value. But geez, Bryant is probably happy at this point that he lost his grievance. Or he is so mad about it he decided to rank the season so the extra year the Cubs got would be a terrible one.
  19. Cubs with 2 runs on 9 hits... For the series
  20. I know the Cubs have switched hitting coaches several times in this run but the offense has never looked this bad I don’t think. Probably won’t change anything but maybe it’s time to find a new guy we’ll all want to fire soon
  21. How the hell is this team in first place?
  22. Schwarber really doesn’t look hurt. Wonder why he was suddenly pulled
  23. So which of the 2 runs the Cubs have scored this series was your favorite?
  24. Don’t care if anyone reads this it’s just good to vent. My team this year is a monster IMO. We’ve had this league for 19 consecutive seasons and I’m almost positive my projected points coming into today was the highest in league history. And then this happened: -My WR2 AJ Brown out. My opponent decides to start 2 other Titans WRs as his WR3 and 4 and they combine for 3 receiving TDS -My WR4 Crowder out - My replacement WR4 Parris Campbell leaves in 1st quarter after 0.7 points -Packers score 42 points, my WR1 Davante Adams has 5 fantasy points and leaves injured in the 3rd quarter - Falcons score 39 points and my RB2 Gurley has 6 fantasy points -Cowboys have 4 rushing TDs and my RB1, Elliott has 1 total. He also fumbled twice and had 1 rushing TD taken away by 1 inch. Dak stole 3 goal line TDs from Zeke -My temporary RB3 Ronald Jones is replaced by Fournette mid game and is probably worthless now. That’s fine though because I knew it was going to happen sooner than later Hopefully Lamar Jackson and Kyler Murray combine for 100. Oh wait Kyler just threw a pick
