  1. I am going to boo the crap out of Prior if he ever faces the Cubs in Wrigley again. And then 3 hours later leave the park depressed because he just threw 8 innings of shutout ball
  2. Knowing the nature of the bleachers and the bleacher bums, Kosuke is going to be really happy he decided to not go with Fukudome on his uniform.
  3. Im sure some Cubs fans wouldn't mind trading Pie for a SS and making Soriano-Fukudome-Murton the OF for the next 4 years.
  4. AJ Burnett is just the player we need to replace Prior on the roster...
  5. Did anyone read the quote from JH in Bruce's article. Apologize if its been discussed already What next, are you going to talk about his VORP? Are you freaking kidding me Jim? Did you finally realize the Damien Jacksons and Neifi Perez's of the world have a fundamental problem with them.
  6. Geez what a gloomy article by Sullivan: Also, I should mention that last season Fukudome's team broke a 53 year championship drought (even though he didn't play), so at least he knows a little about terrible histories.
  7. Has anyone seen this video of Fukudome before? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fPPZjtu-eIA&eurl=http://www.armchairgm.com/Kosuke_Fukudome Please do not call him the Japanese Matt Murton
  8. So D-Day is tomorrow. What scenarios can occur regarding Prior's tenure with the Cubs after tomorrow? My understanding is: A) Signs new contract with the Cubs B) Is traded C) Is non-tendered Will one of these 3 things happen tomorrow?
  9. Speaking of the White Sox, their involvement in this process has been eerily silent...especially strange because their failed pursuits of Hunter and Cabrera were much more known. I wouldn't be surprised if they went in there and swooped him up with a huge offer.
  10. Love all of you guys, including your love, passion and obsessiveness to Cubs baseball. But this is ridiculous! The announcement will come when it comes!
  11. Please let this happen. Dusty will throw Bedard until he can't pitch anymore, and the Reds won't have either Bailey, Bruce or Votto in their system.
  12. It wasn't? I guess because it is a one year deal...but doesn't seem worth it for a catcher who can't throw anyone out and whose OBP and SLG leave much to be desired.
  13. I'm just wondering what Hendry has seen or heard about Fukudome that has caused him to be so determined to get him. Don't get me wrong, I want him too, but I am starting to get scared with how much he'll cost us. His US projected numbers don't not scream $12 million/year player at all. OBP seems to be his biggest skill, which is definitely awesome, but in the past Jim Hendry has been completely anti-OBP, so I am wondering what other skills he is seeing, or if he has finally come around to OBP being a necessity.
  14. Another great day in another great season for my teams as DePaul and Michigan both get blown out to ranked teams.
  15. According to the 2005 American Community Survey, Chicago has 128,650 people of Asian Decent. I cannot find a breakdown of Asian Ethnicities in Chicago, but I would imagine a large large majority of those 128k are Chinese, Korean and Filipino. Census 2000 shows that there are approximately 7,411 Japanese Americans living in Chicago, and 17,398 in Cook County. San Diego on the other hand has 190,893 people of Asian Decent in its city. According to a 2005 poll, San Diego COUNTY (population of about 2.9 million, roughly the size of Chicago give or take 150,000) has around 20,534 Japanese Americans living in their county. I guess thats a pretty sizable difference, as a much smaller metro (2.9 mil vs. about 9 million) has 3,000 more Japanese people in it. But of course comparing the 2 metros doesn't take into account that LA is about 1.5-2 hours north of SD and has a pretty big Japanese population.
  16. Sweet, I always wanted to learn how to be more gritty!
  17. Our last big fire was in 1871. Oooo...too soon?
  18. The folks at Gas Lamp Ball certainly aren't big fans of the Cubs interest in Fukudome right now. Look at some of their quotes:
  19. $15m per year for a guy who might wind up being nearly as good as Hideki Matsui someday, making considering more than Hideki makes right now. That would be some commitment. I'm out. Let's find a cheaper option that can put up a respectable OBP for a fraction of the cost. This is what happens when Hendry is so public about his interest.
  20. Who is the right person on the O's? Probably the player who plays our position of need (SS)
  21. Sweet we arent getting Fukudome and the Bears blow. I hate Chicago stupid sports.
  22. I gotta question that I know no one will be able to answer with anything other than "It's Jim Hendry..." but with SS being a more obvious area of concern, and Tejada probably being a better overall player than Roberts, why are we going after Roberts and not Tejada...
  23. I don't know about that. Not a ton of people here have been to France, but I'm sure most people would recognize the social and climate difference between Paris and Nice
  24. I'm going to cry if Fukudome just wanted to goto the West Coast all along.
  25. All that excitement last night turns out to be for nothing. We need some Cubs' news already. We're all going crazy. Its cautiously optimistic news. I didn't really expect a deal to get done today, but its good to see that there is something to this rumor and its no where near dead.
