  1. Haven't been this excited for the Hawks since 1995 when I watched every game of the Conference Finals vs. Detroit. Of course the Hawks lost in 5 games, but it was fun.
  2. Nor should he. Best players should play, period. The only move that would make the club better would probably be Fontenot at 2B, DeRosa at RF. But then again, Fontenot can only hit righties, so it would make little sense. There is really no point in benching Fukudome. Like someone said in the game thread we are at the top of the league in most offensive categories, we can afford to let Fukudome hit out of his slump.
  3. And for all you platooners out there .268 BA .360 OBP vs. Lefties .272 BA .376 OBP vs. Righties His SLG takes a huge dip though....420 vs. 351, but I don't think thats enough justification to bench him vs. lefties...especially since he gets on base at a good clip, and again plays a much better defense than anyone who can replace him in right.
  4. He is definitely trying to send a message, but I highly doubt they bench a $12m player with a .370 OBP and plus defense. No way at all.
  5. What's his OBP? Gotta be in the low .370s/high .360s. Yup still solid there...his isod hasn't dipped much, he's just not getting hits as frequently as before.
  6. Funny how baseball is. The Cubs look awful offensively 7 out 8 innings in a game, yet in that one inning, they worked the count, got some hard hit balls and are now 3 outs from winning.
  7. BTW, Kosuke's BA is now in the .260's.
  8. Crap, they are in Grand Slam range now.
  9. I didn't think it was a good idea to have Jeff face Pujols for the second time of the weekend.
  10. Anyone with some insight. I've always wondered this, and if its possible to intentionally swing at a wild pitch with 2 strikes and run to first. It's possible, but you've gotta be real quick on your feet to recognize that pitch is going to the backstop. I used to do the other thing you were talking about when I'd get IBBd in coed softball. Swing on the first 2 to go down 0-2 in the count. This was of course not baseball though. My thing is I think guys should let infield fly rule pop ups drop. I'd figure at least 5 times a year you'd have some dumb guy getting doubled off since they don't understand the rule. there's no point in catching them, right? Well its an assumed out. The runners must tag up to advance. What SSR is saying is that once in awhile its possible to catch someone off the bag, not understanding that an out was called, and you can double them off.
  11. Yes but technically he actually went farther away from home if you measure the distances. I'm surprised Morgan didn't use this logic to determine it's actually a bad decision to steal there.
  12. Anyone with some insight. I've always wondered this, and if its possible to intentionally swing at a wild pitch with 2 strikes and run to first. Technically, yes. But extremely difficult to do. I would just wonder if its even smart to do it. Swinging at a bad pitch can lead to really bad things happening. The only time this would even enter my conscious as a possibility is if its 2 outs, the hitter up is decent bad ball hitter, and the pitcher is especially awful.

  14. Upon further review, he didn't I don't think
  15. If it makes you feel better, it could easily be 2-0, inning over if Kennedy doesn't let a routine GIDP go through the wickets.
  16. I would have killed him if he got thrown out before the second run scored.
  17. I always wondered this.... In this situation with Dempster on deck and obviously going to stay in...the pitcher is obviously going to work around you to get to the 9 spot. Would it ever make sense to intentionally expand your strike zone and swing at a possible bad pitch to bait the pitcher into giving you an actual AB? I am assuming it would make more sense if you are a better bad ball hitter. Wow 2 outs in the basepaths this inning.
  18. For about 2 weeks, Soto was hitting OK average wise, but he wasn't hitting for a ton of power. He seems to be squaring the ball up a little better and hitting for authority now.
  19. Yeah, if you combine Zambrano's bad performance yesterday surely flustering him with needing to retaliate for Edmonds being hit, Z might have killed someone.
  20. Gotta think they rushed him back too early.
  21. This is infuriating. I felt really confident about this game because the one thing the Cubs do best is work pitchers and make them throw pitches. They have done anything but that. And now the media will soon be stirring saying "Carp has come back strong, Cardinals ready to make a charge". This is really bad. I mean the Cardinals have a freaking horrible bullpen, and you start the game only 80 pitches away from seeing said bullpen and they go out and make him throw 50 pitches through 5? Wow guys wow.
  22. OK....now if the offense can make an appearence this series that would be nice. Even the Nationals got 4 runs in a game.
